Short answer: If you want an incredible piece of artwork,…read moretake the time to go to the wilds of Camas, WA and visit The Attic. It is one of my favorites. And, as an added bonus, the City of Camas is a delight! Longer Answer: I love artwork. I understand everyone has their own tastes. Mine seems to be eclectic. I own everything from original pieces, to vintage travel posters, to signed lithographs, to lots of treasures in between. And one of the best places in the Pacific Northwest to peruse, and purchase, all sorts of fabulous pieces you will treasure is in Camas, WA. It is called The Attic. Unless it is just a hop-skip away, consider looking at their website. I was enchanted! We stopped on the way to purchase a motorcycle in Portland when I mentioned I had seen something on-line. The gallery is fun! It is well lit and spacious without being too echo-y. It is not gigantic, although it is bigger than it looks from the sidewalk. There were several people there when we arrived, looking through the artwork and yet it didn't feel claustrophobic, yay! I also have a bit of a thing for quality customer service. I do not care for pushy, but I also do not want to feel I am some sort of an imposition by being there. Especially when you are talking about something as personal as artwork, and again when there are several potential clients who wandered in at the same time, that can be a tough situation to manage. The gals at The Attic handled it beautifully. I felt seen and acknowledged from the moment we walked in. Yes, I had to wait my turn, fine. When it was my turn, they could not have been more attentive, informative and appreciative. I ended up not purchasing either of the pieces by Earl Hamilton that I had found on- line. Instead, I purchased a completely different one by him that I absolutely love! I will also say I think I showed wild amounts of restraint by not buying several other pieces I fell in love with that day...at least not yet... ; ) The Attic knows their artists. They know their inventory. They love what they do. How cool is that? I will inevitably be back. Visit their website and/or their gallery. I believe you will thank me.

They have a very large selection of artwork in a variety of medias. If you are purchasing something through their online portal, I would advise calling to make sure it is still available.

I took a class (well technically two in a valentine's day special class which was an amazing value) there over the last 2 weeks and I was amazed by how much I learned and enjoyed. Ted is not only a talented artist, but also a patient and inspiring teacher. He showed me how to turn a lump of clay into a beautiful bowl, step by step, with clear instructions and helpful tips. He also encouraged me to experiment with different shapes, textures, and colors, and to express my own style and vision. He made me feel confident and proud of my work, even though I had no prior experience with pottery. The studio itself is a cozy and inviting space. There are plenty of tools and materials to choose from, and everything is clean and organized. The atmosphere is friendly and supportive, and you can chat with other students or work quietly at your own pace. Ted is always there to answer your questions, offer feedback, or just share his passion for art. He creates a stress-free environment where you can relax and have fun. I had a wonderful time at Norris Arts, and I can't wait to go back for another session. I learned a lot and brought home multiple unique pieces of art that I love. It is a hidden gem in the Camas and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new and creative.

Of course, on any given visit, there would be different local artist's works exhibited, and there's no guarantee that some or any works would appeal to me (or to anyone, on any given day. Art is so subjective, and the featured artists here change regularly). I was just lucky that I loved so many pieces of art when I visited. There are many things I loved about this gallery: they showcase a wide range of artistic works, from photographs to paintings to sculptures to glassworks to artisan hand-made jewelry and more. All the artists are local. All the art pieces are for sale. There is a huge range of prices for the works, so there really is something for any budget. (Note: when I was there, there were postcards and small prints with the featured photographer's works on them, and these were super reasonably priced). And best of all, you can often chat with the artists who are there! I loved the fact that the featured jewelry maker was there, and she talked about her inspirations and her artistic process. It was fascinating (and she was super talented - and nice to boot!). I love supporting local businesses and local artisans and artists, and this gallery checks all the boxes.

Ceramics, pottery, paintings, prints, photography, metal works, sculptures and greeting cards. Truly something for everyone across a spectrum of prices. What I particularly liked is that the art isn't all about PNW scenes. So many local galleries predominantly filled with local scenes and while stunning in real life, it may not necessarily go with everyone's style in their home. At Alberta Street Gallery, there are abstracts, nature scenes, people, birds, animals and more. Definitely worth a walk through any time you are in the area and also worthy as a destination. There is never any pressure to buy, but always helpful and informative service if needed. The art is always changing so stop back frequently.

She told us she was going to be closing at this location after this season ends. She has a strong online presence and she will rent a space in the Railroad District that will be open by appointment only. Nina and I looked through the gallery. There were some Ken Standhardt pottery pieces, lots of paintings and other wall art and some jewelry. There were three interesting wall pieces, wood framed stacks of granite or marble topped w/ bronze sculptures of wildlife. I didn't ask their price, but they were attractive. I saw a necklace made of malachite and cloissonne beads and was immediately interested, as I have a malachite necklace I had put together a few years ago and the malachite has grown dull. When I asked her the price she told me she had made it years ago and the it was marked down considerably because one of the malachite beads had split. I said I'd take it and she hunted carefully for the broken bead so she could show it to me. She said I could glue the bead and I might, but if it's that hard to find I probably won't. Nina found a ceramic cup that's made by the same potter as some others she had bought at the original location. Because she was paying cash she got a 10% discount.I'm sorry Adelante! is moving from Main Street, but in its current location it gets often overlooked by passersby.

What makes this gallery unique is that they are part of Adult Learning Systems of Oregon (ALSO) program and most of the art they showcase was created by their students. From their website, Also Arts "is a foundation and pillar of ALSO's programs and services committed to the full inclusion of people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. We believe in providing accessible art opportunities, training, expression, and production." Their goal is to provide life skills and opportunities so that all people are fully included and productive, participating members of the community. Independence is key. How can you not love and support that mission! The gallery is spacious with vibrant art of many mediums adorning the walls and tables. The art spans many mediums - water color, acrylic, glass - to name a few. You can purchase originals and they also have prints and greeting cards. Since we all only have so much wall space, I find that buying the greeting cards and framing them allows me to find a spot in my home while supporting the artist. Plus, I use them for birthday, anniversary or any occasion cards and the recipient can then keep and frame them. The artists who are collaborate with Also Arts donate a portion of the sale back to the organization to further support and expand the reach of this foundation and help other artists express themselves. in addition to displaying art, they have a studio in the back where they teach the students. Also Arts participates in the First Friday Art walk, but no need to wait for a Friday to visit. They are open 10-5 Tuesdays-Sunday. Visit them while you are exploring the charming downtown area of Troutdale. Or if you are heading to the Gorge, plan a stop in Troutdale to have lunch and visit the galleries and boutiques along the way
