Property exam is the best home inspection service I have ever worked with. As a Realtor I depend on and trust Property Exam to do an excellent job for my clients. Owner Scott Harris is thorough, dependable and efficient. He is always early for the job and gets his report to me and my clients within hours of completing the inspection. Scott is well connected in the industry and is great at recommending specific contractors when the need presents itself. I cannot speak highly enough of Scott Harris and Property Exam. Property Exam - Scott Harris doing his thing! - Home Inspectors Near Me

Scott is a very thorough and professional inspector. He wrote a wonderful report and even had a checklist that I could use and share with contractors who needed to see repairs that he recommended. Clear and precise with cost estimates to assist in getting them scheduled. I have emailed and called him afterwards multiple times for advice. He's very helpful and accessible. I highly recommend his services. read more

Scott was thorough and punctual. I'll give him two stars for that. We did not move forward with the home he inspected. We were getting an inspection for a rehab loan, and on the day of the inspection I was hopeful, but after brushing us off, ignoring us, and dismissing our questions, I was worried about using him for a rehab consultant. It seemed to me that he didn't care/ realize that the cost of the rehab was far exceeding what we had expected, and wasn't willing to work with us to try and figure out where we could cut costs. We would send emails that clearly weren't read by Scott, and would receive somewhat passive aggressive one word responses. I would not recommend using Scott Harris for your inspection. read more

I've known Scott for the last 10 years, as a neighbor and a friend. He is a man of his word, has a huge repertoire of knowledge of the building and housing industry. He's the kind guy that when he says he'll do something he not only does it, but goes above and beyond. He's done that in our neighborhood. Though I haven't hired him for a job yet, I plan to have him do inspections on my rental property. He suggested a very clever workaround for low quality rental property management. And another plus, Scott is fun to work with. read more

I will always call Scott if I need an inspection. He does an amazing job and uses high quality, cutting edge equipment. There was "no stone unturned" in the home we were considering. read more

Scott inspected my home back in 2010 before I purchased it. I am now selling it and have had 3 other professionals (1 home inspector, 1 structural engineer, and 1 foundation specialist) tell me that the crawl space and footings are not up to code and have to be redone. They have all said this should have been caught on inspection back in 2010. This issue is going to cost me a minimum of $10k to fix before selling, so thanks to Scott I am now out $10k. I will be looking into legal action against him for this as it is absolutely gross neglect on his part as an inspector. *In reply to My being "unreasonable" (highly professional). Regardless of code compliance, general safety and soil erosion concerns were missed, which should be pointed out by an inspector no matter how old the structure. I asked for the three separate opinions because I trusted Scott's inspection and was sure he hadn't missed anything. In the end it is very hard to believe three separate professionals would all be wrong and Scott would be right on this one. read more

I'm an environmental consultant specializing in due diligence for commercial real estate. I've contracted with PropertyExam on multiple occasions to provide Property Condition Assessments or PCAs. Scott almost always comes in with a proposal well below his competitors and usually completes the report in a day or two. Their reports comply with ASTM E2018-01, the only recognized standard for the inspection and reporting on the condition of commercial property. He's also a licensed Home Inspector and Licensed Unlimited General Contractor in the state of Oregon. It's great that I know I can call Scott and know that he'll show up on time with the tools to get the job done quickly with minimal inconvenience to the tenants, and that I'll have the report in my hand within few days. Thanks Scott! read more

Scott did a property inspection on a condo that I helped find for my mother so that she could move closer to our family and he did a super job and was very thorough. His write up was extensive, yet easy to read and understand and he was able to look at things that we never would have thought to inspect before buying. Scott's expertise certainly took away all the anxiety my mom had about buying this condo and he helped uncover some issues that the seller was willing to repair before closing which ultimately save her a bunch of money too! Thanks Scott, great work!!! read more

After careful thought and much consideration, there just aren't enough ways available to me to sing the praises we're feeling for Scott Harris. His vast experience, his extensive knowledge and understanding of all the aspects involved in the doing of *proper* property inspections, and his advice and insights offered on all kinds of matters explored along the way have been consistently stellar (i.e, totally "right on", efficient, and effective for us in planning ways to move forward on things uncovered along the way). He came through for us when we moved to Oregon almost 9 years ago, and came through again for us when new questions surfaced for us recently - no question in our minds, he's the best. Thanks! read more

Scott is knowledgeable and provided information regarding the repairs and process. It was a pleasure working with him. Scott is a great guy and takes pride in his work. If I had to describe him I would say he is a mix of Ron Swanson and Jamie Hyneman. read more

I live in Southern California and want to buy a floating home in Portland. Scott Harris was the inspector for the home I want to buy. I flew up to Portland this past week and met Scott Thursday morning, with my real estate agent, who highly recommended Scott. I found him very personable, seemed efficient while inspecting and then very helpful while giving feedback on his inspection. In addition, he gave some very good suggestions about possible follow-up projects. Thank you Scott for being so helpful read more

Scott Harris recently did an inspection for me on a property I am interested in buying. He was very professional & thorough in his examination. He is a very straightforward personality who really knows his trade. I got a sense of a high degree of integrity and confidence from him during the inspection/walk through. That was the first time I met him & he came highly recommended by my realtor. After meeting him & spending a few hours together during the walk through & review I was very impressed. He took the time to go the extra mile in making sure I was on the same page & up to speed with: what he was about, what he was looking at, what the loan program I was looking at was about, what needed to happen to get the house up to par & about how much everything was going to cost to fix the place up. Having a little experience as a subcontractor & a life long do it myselfer I feel his estimates & perceptions of the work that needed to be done were extremely accurate & I trust his judgment. Scott is someone I now trust & I wouldn't hesitate to use his services again nor would I hesitate to recommend him to anyone in need of his services. He also went the extra mile with his inspection of the home. If you need a home inspection done I highly recommend his services. read more

This was my first home inspection ever and I was pretty nervous about the whole thing. A friend forwarded me Scott's info and I vetted him quite thoroughly. From his A+ Better Business Bureau rating to the stellar reviews, everything checked out. We met at the house and he got to work. We sat down when he was done and he went over everything. He was thorough, personable, funny and he even taught me some important facts about home maintenance and tips to keeping your property in great shape that are specific to rainy Portland. After the home inspection he has been extremely responsive in giving me advice and quality low cost referrals to contractors if I need them. My real estate agent, who has over 30 years experience and is with Windemere, was impressed and took a stack of his cards. Apparently, there are many new under-experienced home inspectors in Portland, post bubble bursting. Scott is very experienced and professional and I will recommend him to everyone who needs a home inspection. read more

I used Scott to inspect an historic commercial building I purchased. I had a great experience all around. I got an appointment quickly. Scott was right on time and very thorough. He got my inspection report to me the next day and it was easy to understand. He has also been helpful following the inspection with offering answers to my questions regarding contractors and products to use for my remodel project. I would recommend him and use him again without a doubt. read more

Stay far, far away from this guy! Scott Harris missed significant defects that cost in excess of $16,000 to correct including a crawl space ground water issue that should have been detected by someone with a 10th of his experience. When called back to address the issue he blew smoke at us so we filed a complaint with the CCB following which he emailed stating "the board will not appreciate this", seemingly an attempt to discourage us from pursuing our rights. After two mediation's we wound up in front of a small claims judge who in response to one of the answers Scott provided asked "how long have you been doing this?" We won, have the judgement to prove it and the judge expressed remorse that the most she could award us was the original inspection fee, court cost and a "prevailing party" fee of $125.00. I expect all home inspection contracts provide inspectors this type of protection so choose carefully, $825.00 is no consolation but at least our experience is a matter of public record. I've given 1 star as your not allowed to post a review with anything less. read more

Property Exam - Our bone dry crawl space 3 months after Scott's inspection. - Home Inspectors Near Me

After reading the reviews about Scott both on Yelp and Angie's List, we decided to hire Property Exam for the inspection of our new home. He returned my email almost immediately and when I spoke to his office, they already knew exactly who I was and what time slot I had requested (which they accommodated). He allowed my husband to go through the entire inspection with him and went over every detail of the house. He not only pointed out the few things that would need repair right away, but also gave recommendations for things that should be replaced within the next 5-15 years. The report was emailed to us within an hour of his completion of the inspection. Additionally, Scott told us that he will always be available to us and that his job ends not when we buy this house, but when we SELL this house - and that we can always call on him for help with contractors, renovations, etc. We had an inspector when we bought our first home and he did the job, and I could not tell you his name or his company unless I have the paperwork in front of me. Scott however is not someone who just does the job, he does an amazing job and obviously takes pride in his work and it certainly shows. And on top of that, my husband said he was super entertaining! We very highly recommend Scott and will definitely hire him again! read more

Scott & his team were awesome to deal with. I called to make an appointment & his staff that did scheduling were easy to deal with & very thorough. I had to cancel last minute because my daughter was sick & it was easy to reschedule. Not only did they do a great job in the customer service area, but the inspection was incredibly thorough. I would definitely recommend Property Exam! read more
