If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Absolute horrible experience. Their platform has software issues with MacBook, they know of the issues but do not let you know about it. Paid over $800 for an exam and almost wasn't able to take it because of the lousy customer service on their end. Finally rescheduled after over 8 hours of calls and being hung up on. The proctor approved of the room for the main exam and said it met the criteria and then the day of the exam was told I needed to relocate my testing area 15 minutes before the exam. I seriously dread ever having to use them again. read more

I feel like a lot of people complain about this place with the staff being rude and all. It really isn't bad at all, and I didn't find the room particularly noisy when I was there at 10:30. I put in my ear plugs for like half of the time though because they helped me focus more. Some tips: Go to the entrance at 34th st (there are revolving doors and steps going up to them) it is also across from a 7eleven. Know which place you are going to (obv) when you get to the counter and have your ID ready. These people are curt but nice so don't worry about it too much. I went to the elevators to the left of the front counter (since the 17th floor elevators were on that side) and then I went into the right side elevator since it opened to me first. I had to kind of walk a long ways to Prometric but I found it eventually- it wasn't on the side I had been walking on, it was like the exact opposite corner. If you walk to the right elevators on the left side you probably won't have to switch sides. Notice where the bathrooms are! This is important especially if the test you take only has a short break. You still need to make sure you get the lock code from Prometric when you use the bathroom though. When you get to Prometric they will basically tell you only get your locker key and your ID in the testing room. Check about earplugs, and they'll tell you 1 pair probably. You write a ton on some contract and make sure you read all the rules and sign. You put all your belongings in the locker, making sure your phone is off, then you go to the security checkpoint. They ask you if you have any pockets and make you walk through the metal detector. They probably make you turn out your pockets if you have them. There are rules for sweatshirts/etc by the way so make sure you read them in the paperwork earlier. They take your picture at the seat across from the desk, then they make you sign in. You have to sign in and out each time you come and go. Then you go into a room that is so quiet and sit at a desk in a cubicle. They are separated enough that I wasn't that distracted, I didn't even notice the person beside me got up until my break. There are noise cancelling headphones but they looked tangled at my station so I did not partake. There are a ton of security cameras in the room so if you are someone who takes a break by looking around- don't, it's a bad idea the proctor will likely think you are cheating. As a small woman who is always cold, I had forgotten my sweatshirt. Somehow, during the entire test though I did not get chilly, and the ladies at the front desk seemed surprised by this. So take it with a grain of salt and you probably should bring a pocketless sweater or sweatshirt. I'm only taking a star off for one of the ladies in the front getting annoyed with someone for trying to ask her to speak louder on the phone. She replied with the most condescending tone, "This is as loud as I can speak." It reminded me of how much I had trouble understanding her when she left a voice mail. I would like to suggest that you just have an automated system for that kind of call, this way we have a chance at understanding the person. Or just send an email too. I found the facilities modern and clean, so that was nice. Don't be silly and give them back the key before you grab your stuff. I almost did and they laughed a bit with me as I wallowed in pain after 4 hrs of testing. read more

Prometric has the same attributes to offer as the PSI testing center, when you test for your license they don't show you your true testing score, they give you a random percentage number; and each time you go back to retake the exam you have to pay which means you are paying for the license in testing fees, some individuals end up paying $1,000 up to $2,000 even more? these testing centers all have hidden criminal agenda to profit dishonestly by milking the testing candidates in testing fees. The staff at these testing centers they do cult on the testers, you will feel confusion and also experience forgetfulness, only if you know cult you will know what I am talking about you have to wear garlic when you're going into these places, the staff at the testing center pouse as an exit meaning they can sabotage you from moving forward by not recommend you for the licensing position you are testing for, so the computer will still grade you as fail. This testing centers are contracted to private individuals who may chooses to save the license and for their club members, they use the licensing as a bait, meaning if you join me or come and worship with us doing demonic religion you will get any professional licensing you desire. read more

Horrendous. I was scheduled (and passed) for the Series 24 at 1 Penn. There is ongoing floor construction that even with headphones that was provided to cut out noise, do nothing. It sounded as if someone was literally sawing wood or drilling into something right next to me. Further, the individuals working at the site are beyond rude. While my experience was OK, I observed rather terrible interactions with other 'testees'. One of the women repeatedly like a robot said "pick up the pen, pick up the pen, oh my god, pick up the pen and then essentially threw a pen at the testee." Now granted the individual should've figured out what the hell he was supposed to do, but also bear in mind he was probably 21 years old, taking his series 7 and him thinking that if he failed, he would lose his first job out of college - so he was nervous. Additionally, the supplies provided in terms of the dry erase markers are well beyond their working period. I am lefty and dry-erase markers are never good for me (the marker is all over my hands from writing left to right). Regardless there is no point on the marker - they are smashed/squished down, unrecognizable as a marker. I'm not sure how long construction will be going on, but strongly recommend testing elsewhere if you have issues shutting out noise! Also, if you want just to deal with individuals that are just nice - or heck just not rude, go elsewhere. The last thing you want is an environment that is simply not conducive to helping you pass. read more

Horrible!!!!!! NOT ABLE TO GET AN APPOINTMENT FOR MY TEST. Website cons: 1 - Horrible hard to navigate and when you think that you are getting where you want something goes wrong. 2- You can't create an account. 3- you can't make appointments for Property and Casualty insurance test and for the people that they were able to do it. I congratulate them cuz they must be geniuses beyond believe. (No offense) After my experience I don't see anything good about the website. CUSTOMER SERVICES CONS: The 1st person who answered my call was rude and hung up. The 2nd person who actually though that he would resolve my issue wasn't able to schedule an appointment and let me tell you all what happened; I was talking with the agent and I have chosen a date for my test - while on the phone the operator tells me that that date is not longer available cuz somebody took it. Then, I took another date and the same thing happened somebody took that day and hour too and send me to another month and the same thing happened again. I got FRUSTRATED and I asked the operator what was happening!!! He said, we are scheduling tests live and he was sorry that the dates are getting picked up by other people @ that point I ended the call before I say something else. How is that possible????? The website continues the same no changes and when I call nobody answers cuz of "corona virus". In conclusion that company should not be allowed in any state before they put their act together. I feel that the people that they are in charge of getting contracts with companies for the states don't test them they just believe whatever the companies tells them. How hard is for a government employer to test if everything is working well for the citizens? I wrote a letter to the governor in my state. I hope to hear from him hopefully in a year. 17th Floor. Saturday morning GRE exam. Super salty staff. If you do decide to test here on a weekend (or possibly weekday) during the scorching summer heat, schedule your exam AFTER 8am. Apparently the management will not turn on the A/C before then. With that being said, I was melting upon entering the building. These are NOT the conditions you want to test in. Also, be prepared to be berated by some of the biggest assholes of Prometric. For me, it was the front desk man and (mostly) the lady who directs you to register for your exam room. I arrived at 720 but refused to be put in an oven, even if it meant I could start my test early. The lady didn't care saying there was nothing they could do, but thankfully the woman that would actually place me in the room was kind enough to give me until 8am to go in when the room cooled down. I was also told that with ETS, if you happen to not agree with the conditions you're tested in, you have the option of canceling and rescheduling the exam as long as it's within the 30min you start. Otherwise, everything else seemed ok. There's cold water in the lobby and lockers both large and small. The bathroom is fairly clean but either the toilet splashes a lot and doesn't flush well, or there are some grimy girls hover peeing all over it. It's also right off the subway and is next to a Starbucks if you need a morning kicker. read more

Try to avoid taking the GRE/LSAT/MCAT/pregancy test here. I have a love/hate relationship with standardized tests. I hate them because they're primarily a measure of how well you take the test. I love them, because I love to hate things, sometimes. The environment is as sterile as the name sounds. Prometric. Upon entering the building, you produce your ID, and They give you some sort of temporary ID with which to scan your way past the uber-matrix-y turnstiles. Enter the 17th floor after going through a long and windowless - sterile - corridor and enter a waiting room. You fill out some forms, sign and are given a key to a designated locker to store your gear, your accouterments, your personal effects, for the next few hours. "I'm really nervous," was met with "You'll be fine, just relax." "Has anyone ever fainted in there?," was unnecessarily met with "Oh my, yes! Many people leave the room crying! But I think you'll be okay!" You are given a generous amount of scrap paper, a small pencil, and directed into the adjacent room of cubicles. Private cubicles: a computer, some headphones. Stimuli are heightened. I've never been given a cup to make love to myself into, but this situation was just impersonal, unsexy. You sit, turn your head upwards of about 20 degrees and notice you're on camera. Not "Hey mom! I'm on camera!" More like conspicuous surveillance. Would you cheat? Would you somehow evade the attention of The Staff sitting outside the glass walls and disturb your neighbor, who was taking a completely different test? Well, no. I'm a lady. The monitors are CRT, as mentioned. This means you're subjected to hours of eye-straining pixelations and words. Bathroom break. You walk out, leave Them your scrap paper, and are given a code. A code. To pee. Back to the test. Anxiety still kicking in, as your priority isn't to do well on the exam, but to GET THROUGH THE DAMN THING WITHOUT WANTING TO GIVE UP. Someone yells, "Excuse me! Excuse me! I need help, something is wrong!!!" while furiously engaging her mouse with the desk. If you must, take it here, but brace yourself. It can be done. My friends who took the GRE in classroom type settings were more at ease. The Staff here were actually very nice. For me, I felt like I was one of those alien people from Roswell at a testing center. Good luck, brush up, and you don't need to bring your own pencil. They'll supply them in order to receive them back. Fingerprints and dead skin, and such. I'm sorry, this might come off as a bit ranty, but I was really disappointed with this testing center. Summary: 1) Look all around the building for open doors-- some of them are locked and it's not because you're early 2) Be prepared for no food or drinks during the exam (water is provided) 3) Be prepared for rude service (though you might be pleasantly surprised if you luck out). 4) Wear sweater (no jackets) if you tend to get cold 5) Be prepared for issues with checking in and checking out (try to do so when other's are still testing) I'm not sure if all the NYC testing centers are like this, but the New Haven center I previously took the test at (sadly, it was booked for the date I wanted) was much, much better than this testing center. Let's start with the first problem. If you are trying to get in to the building, and you notice that the door is locked, please, please, please do not wait until testing time. They lock one side of the building but the other side is accessible. There are no signs and definitely no guards to tell you this (In fact, they are inside laughing at all the students waiting patiently outside. At least that was their response when my boyfriend ran around the building to see if there was an open door elsewhere). You might think that waiting is the right thing to do because there are 20 other students outside waiting, but this is yet another case of when the majority is not right. Of course, there was building security-- you only need one photo id (I had brought two just in case). This was not too bad-- the line passed quickly and the center was fairly easy to find on the 17th floor for me. However, something you will need to keep in mind is that unlike most testing centers, there is no food or drinks allowed anywhere in the building-- you need to go down 17 floors to the first floor coffee shop to get that pick-me up. This was frankly ridiculous. I understand if they don't want food in the waiting room, but there needs to be somewhere less than10 minutes away to snack. Each break is 10 minutes max, it is impractical to assume that you can go down to the main floor to eat those crackers you'd brought along. My test was 4.5 hours and very grueling. It would have been nice to have more than just a water break in between tests. This is not even me being demanding-- most test centers (at least in New Haven and North Carolina) allow drinks and food. Also, as people have previously mentioned, the bathroom has a code (that changes periodically I assume, mine was 2-3-4). This isn't too bad an inconvenience, just be sure to ask the proctor for the code before going on a restroom break. Next, the proctor who signed me in was very, unnecessarily rude. I understand they have a dull job, but there is no need to take it out on the testers. She ranted at me about "needing to come on time"-- aka 30 minutes early. I had been at the testing center 45 minutes early, spent 15 minutes waiting outside the wrong door, and another 15 minutes waiting to be checked in. I was still 15 minutes early according to the official exam time. There was no need for her to be snippy about me being late for the exam, not only because I was NOT, but because the only reason I was supposedly tardy was due to disorganization on the testing center's part. The proctors do check for watches (though mine also made me take off my bracelet), make you turn out your pockets, show that you have no back pockets, take off jackets (I wore a sweater so didn't have to take it off), do metal detector scan, take you fingerprint, and sign in/out with a signature and time. This is all pretty standard. Finally, if you get into the testing center early, try to limit break times and finish early so that you beat the crowd of people finishing around the same time. The fingerprint scanner/log in network seemed to be a bit buggy in the center. They gave up on fingerprinting us during the exam. I suppose they have to fingerprint you when you're done, because I had to wait 20 minutes while they rebooted the system before signing out. This could have been longer if I had to wait in line. Overall, this center made a stressful situation even more stressful and I would never, never, never go here again. read more

I never write reviews for anything, but I feel like I need to write one here, specifically because I really wanna slap some of these whinies that gave poor ratings in the faces. SERIOUSLY, what the hell do you expect from the test center??? Yes, you are in a big corporate building, so you walk through a corridor... ...and yes, you have an access code for the bathroom (which is 1-2-3) which is quite typical for big buildings in NYC,.... ....and NO, the people that work in the test center are not supposed to hold your hand and give you erotic massages and acupuncture during your breaks in case you need this..... And finally, yes, they are supposed to scan you and film you as an overall requirement that is national. No need to whine about all of this. No, but seriously, do not bother about the negative reviews unless you are one of those annoying kids that get disappointed when they find out they cannot change the college dorm furniture with the one they brought and/or the type of people who blame their poor performance on everything else but themselves. The test center is just fine, there is not too much noise, the quiet headphones work just fine and the screens are flat. And the staff that works there is nice and professional. As to the "lady" who wrote a whole novel on how the test center oppressed her: " Do not worry sweety, you sound like you can convince your parents to endow the school you wanna get into, your test scores do not matter". This review is for the 17th floor testing center. As stated by another reviewer, I think a lot of people come out of their long standardized tests being pissed off at the world, and a yelp review of a testing center is a great way to get that out, surely. This is a testing center, not a restaurant. It doesn't do a huge disservice to Prometric when you poorly and irrationally rate this site b/c people will always have to take tests, and this is a very convenient location. It does a huge disservice, however, to other test takers who are scared off by the reviews on here. I just took an 8 hour exam here. It was quiet, clean, spacious, and a good environment. My computer screen was a nice LCD monitor. I had a nice set of headphones and a set of noise cancelling headphones. I wasn't expecting the airport like security with the metal detector wands and the constant in and out fingerprinting, but I guess they've had to go to incredible lengths to prevent people from cheating. All in all, it was a fine place to take a test. If you're not an a-hole, the staff, and people in general won't be an a-hole back. Life lesson. read more

Ive taken all my CPA exams here, I've only had a problem with them once. They forgot about me for about 30 minutes. When you enter the building you will get a temporary pass, keep that pass as if your exam depends on it, I lost mine one time and thats how they forgot about me for 30 minutes,I also failed that exam by one point I'm hoping that isn't why I failed.. otherwise wtf! The "greeter" takes your temporary pass for identification. You'll enter a room where everyone is taking different exams, LSATS, CPA,GRE,GMATS,etc. So feel free to use their headphone to block out the typing. Overall, it is a decent test taking place,I can't imagine where else you can take an exam in a quiet setting. Good Luck everyone! read more

Finally took the PMP exam at this testing site, so I'm back to writing Yelp reviews! Prometric is located on the 15th and 17th floors of One Penn Plaza, right on top of Penn Station. I took my exam on the 17th floor. You need to sign in at the visitors desk downstairs to gain access to the building. Upon entering the room, there was nobody at the front desk, so I was confused and wandering around until someone pointed out that I need to check in at the front - didn't even notice. You check in and put your stuff in a locker (with a lock and key) that they provide you. Then you get entered into the system and your body is scanned (for cheating material?) before you enter your testing site. You are able to start upon being seated. The testing site is basically a computer screen in a cubible. You are provided with ear muff things to block sound, but if you're sensitive like I am, I'd suggest bringing your own earplugs. The desk and chair are fairly comfortable. There are cameras everywhere. The one downside of this testing center was that it was SO WARM. I made the mistake of wearing a sweatshirt since I'm used to places being too cold. Staff were friendly. Hopefully I'll never have to take a test here again (not because of the site, obviously). read more

The only reason they didn't get 1 star is because the Gentleman who actually escorted me into the room was friendly. The lady at the counter was bitingly sarcastic. It sure doesn't seem like she has a nice or funny bone in her body. I get it, you're at work, but there's a difference between being professional and being a stone-cold B! (fill in the rest of the word) Pro tips: 1) NO food or drinks! God forbid you have a poland spring bottle or a coffee. Very disappointed after I took my CMA (Certified Management Accountant) exam here today. Staff is uninformed about exam policy, regulations and identification rules. First, I gave Olga, the woman at the reception, my NYS Driver License. She asked me for second form of ID. So, I gave her my Green Card, then, she asked for a credit/debit card because she can not accept my Green Card. Really? I took couple of exams through prometric in the past 2 years and I had no issue identifying myself with my driver license and green card, I don't understand what rules is she following? Second, I gave her my financial calculator which is allowed for this exam, I even called the IMA and confirmed that my calculator is allowed for this exam and she would not allow me to use my own calculator. I had to sit for the exam with a calculator they provided, having all keys on the opposite side compared to the one I got used to, definitely slowed down my speed. This was my second exam taken here, at this center and I didn't believe the complaints and bad reviews of others, until happened to me. I would definitely not recommend this center, exams are already stressful enough, they take so much time, preparation and dedication and having to deal with something like this before an exam is awful. read more

I can't imagine giving 4-stars "Yay. I'm a fan"? nope...not a fan of standardized exams... But the testing center isn't so bad. When you first get there you have to present your ID to the security desk in the lobby in order to get a printed temporary badge which you have to give to the prometric people on the 15th floor? You get a key and a cubby in a little 15'x 7' coat area. You need to fill out an initial form/questionaire. You're reminded to go to the bathroom if you need and you check in with someone at a computer who verifies your information and asks you to sign your life away. They're pretty adamant about not cheating so you can't bring anything into the actual testing cubicles except for your ID and your cubby key. You're also required to empty your pockets and to show them your shaggy insides of your pockets. Anytime you get a break and have to leave the room, the same routine goes: sign your life away, go out, come back, sign your life away, empty your pockets, have them scope you out, and back to lugging exam. The lady was nice to me. Just dont be a smartass like with anyone and be friendly. Yes its a stressful environment but be mindful of others and try to relax. They said 4 and a half hours but it was more like 3 and a half for me and I used up all the time to the very end. But don't push it. My advice: sign up for the early times and try to be first, unless you're an afternoon person. You don't want to take a test here when its crowded. I was like one of the very first and it was quiet. But you could tell sound will echo. computers are flatscreen and not too bad contrary to what everyone else is saying about it. There are headphones and silencing headphone things, which are extremely uncomfortable. read more

This is a review for the 15th-floor Prometric center, Suite 1540. It seems many reviewers are mistaking the pain of taking a lengthy standardized test for something unusual about the test center. I found the place completely typical, with some uppity power-tripping staff members -- certainly not even a fraction as bad as the security guards in the public library -- and some friendly, easygoing, and kind ones who fortunately gave me a five-star experience. I took the B train down from Harlem, leaving at the right time to arrive 30 minutes early as recommended. That is to say, if the train had run on the right schedule, I would have gotten there at the right time. Instead, the train stopped for 10 minutes underground, where they announced a broken rail at 34th that would prevent the train from stopping there. Rather than risk another delay, I got out at the next stop -- Rockefeller Center -- and spent another 10 minutes failing to hail a cab before racing down to Penn Plaza, dodging Christmas shoppers and flailing in the direction of another hundred-odd already-occupied cabs along the way. I finally arrived out of breath and two minutes late, giving Prometric ample reason to deny me entrance. Instead the guy who welcomed me was very relaxed, assured me there wasn't a problem, and gave me plenty of time to use the restroom, splash water on my face, and regain the ability to speak before moving me along to security. While completely flustered, I also dropped my wallet on the floor, which another employee picked up and restored to me. The first person to scan me was friendly and even gently apologetic about needing to visually check all my pockets. I should point out that by no means was it a slow day -- even when I registered, I wasn't spoiled for a choice of times. The lockers, cubicles, test stations, and noise reduction ear gear were all standard, clean, and in good shape. If other reviewers found it intimidating, they would likely be intimidated in any serious test setting. I've never heard of a test center that resembled a classroom, and while I don't doubt that you can find one in Kansas, I suspect you won't do better than this Prometric in New York. read more

Took my GRE here (17th floor) last Saturday. I had taken the test a few years back at another NYC location that was terrible due to rude staff and noisy exam rooms. After reading mediocre reviews here, I wasn't sure what to expect but I was very pleasantly surprised! I felt compelled to write a review because the staff was so pleasant and genuinely friendly. They went out of their way to ask if I wanted to start earlier/or right on time; directions were clear and concise; facilities are modern and clean. I can't say I enjoyed taking the test itself but I popped in my earplugs and used the headphones to double up and easily tuned everything out! If (god forbid) I have to retake that horrid test, I would definitely go back to this place. read more

I'm not one to think I would ever have to rate a testing center, but as with any place you pay for services you expect decent services in return. First off, GET THERE EARLY! I arrived 45 minutes early to be entered into the building by a snarky security guard. Then found myself 3rd in line at the center, when I sat down to fill out the paperwork the line was out the door. The receptionists are your typical robotic paper processors who are nice if you are nice, BUT DON'T INTERRUPT THEM TO ASK A QUESTION, they instantly morph into a sarcastic, annoyed person. After standing at the desk to hand in my paperwork someone in the long line yells out "HEY THE LINE IS BACK HERE!" and got into a tiff with one of the receptionists about what the process is/who can skip lines. For the record I wasn't skipping line, you get your paperwork and locker key, sit down and fill it out and then return it. Honestly though as soon as all those people showed up the staff were all kind of running into each other and making the process a whole lot longer than what it should have taken. Besides that the process for me was: got wanded, told I would be "next" and watched 4 people get called ahead of me and got yelled at by the man for interrupting him to ask a question during his robotic rant on test rules. There is no food, and they won't let you bring any in. I smuggled a banana into the bathroom with me on my break where a girl was doing the same and chugging a red bull. The room I took the test in was cold then got really HOT. I'm usually a person who is always cold and had a tee-shirt on and a zip up hoodie because i thought, "hey if I get hot I can take it off". Apparently not. After leaving for my break I was told I couldn't take my sweatshirt off. Since that made no sense to me I made the mistake of repeating what she said in question form which naturally received a very annoyed, sarcastic response of "if you take it off again I have to take it away from you" If taking a 4-5 hour test isn't stressful enough, this place didn't help, between some of the staff and the people taking the test, I was glad to get the hell out of there. read more

I guess if you have to take a test this is the place to go. I am beginning to take the ARE's and they are the exclusive provider, so I will be here a lot in the upcoming year. I got there early, about 25 minutes and was able to start early which was nice. The staff was all very nice, but it is odd to be video taped while taking a test, very Big Brother-ish, but once you get over the inital nerves of taking a test again it is not bad. They still have old school CRT monitors which takes some getting use to again. They share bathrooms are shared amongst the floor (the code is 123), private albeit small stalls, stocked and somewhat clean, 3 Flushes. read more

Took my step 2CK exam here yesterday. Friendly staff are great. Definitely get you in and out of break pretty quickly (especially for me when my 8hr exam has 7 breaks total). The day before my exam, the office called to remind me of my appointment and what to bring to testing center. Go to the security desk when you walk in and recieve visitor's badge to go to 17th floor where the prometric site is. Registration at the front desk was smooth and easy. Just present your ID and and prometric letter and she'll give you your locker key and rules. There's a water station next to the lockers if you forget to bring your own. Bathroom in the hallways has a code to get in. Code is taped to front desk. They also have a rack with coat hangers you can hang your stuff on. Bring a jacket if you're cold-blooded like me because I was freezing and thankfully brought my northface with me. Only complaints are that the walls are thin, so you can hear people running upstairs, the staff laughing outside, and the ambulance and police bleeps. I had my earplugs and their "noise cancelling headphones" on. And imagine that while switching to regular headphones a few times to listen to heart murmurs and breath sounds. This review is for suite 1540, not the one on the 17th floor. I have taken six different exams at Prometric centers in the last 5 years so I know the drill quite well. I tested here a few months ago and it was easily the worst experience I've had. When you first walk in, you're greeted by people at the front desk of 1 Penn Plaza - these guys were super friendly and nice. Some scanning of your ID and then you can enter the gates to the elevators. You go up to the 15th floor and you've reached the gates of testing hell. I got in about 35 mins before my exam and was waiting to check in; the guy in front of me was bumbling around his backpack cause he needed a second ID and didn't have it readily available. Obviously it was his first time doing this, and he was frazzled. The front desk lady had an attitude and told him he was holding up the line and chastised/lectured him for not reading the directions on what to bring. At this point the "line" was only me. There are a 100 nicer ways she could have said this ("sir, why don't you step aside and find it and then come back to the line when you're ready") instead of the condescending way she said it. Check in was uneventful aside from the lady being robotic and short. I put my bag away and got scanned (pro tip: try to limit the number of pockets on your clothing and dress in layers. You can't take off layers in the testing room but at least you have the option of coming out and taking it off if you get too hot). Got fingerprinted, signed my name, and was warned about the "no taking off your sweaters" rule. Also, your ids and locker key must be visible on the table at all times. Got it. Was given my two note boards and markers and some instructions about what to do if I needed more note boards and that was that. I go to start my test and 1) it's freezing, even after all my layering 2) the air conditioner is super noisy and makes a loud noise every five minutes or so when it reaches temp and shuts off. The most ridiculous part of the experience is around midway through my test, when my hair tie (like a thin black elastic) is really too tight on my hair and starting to give me a mild headache. So I take it off and put it on the table. Within three seconds a proctor lady comes running in and tells me I can't put it on the table. Oh okay, I'll put it on my wrist. "I'm not sure if that's allowed." Okaaaay... I'll loop it around my button on my cardigan. "I'd have to check if that's allowed. You might want to just put it in your locker." What the flying #%^!. I'm pretty sure I'm not hiding any answers in my freaking hair tie so how does it matter if it's in my hair or on my shirt?!! It's a freaking hair elastic! To avoid wasting more time I just put it back in my hair, and from the window I could see her consulting with another prometric employee, no doubt about nonexistent hair-tie rules. I have since then tested at two other centers in/near Manhattan and have had no issues with hair elastics at either place. Avoid this place! Just go elsewhere. Testing is stressful enough and does not need to become more complicated. read more

From the moment I entered the place, it felt like jail. They are more intrusive than TSA. I was so stressed from the signing in, that it was difficult to take the test. A very dark and dreary experience. We need competition for this place. read more

My series 7 was canceled last minute, no explanation, the service was horrible at 42nd street location. I called and was put on hold for HOURS through out the day, no exaggeration, only to be told the system was down. Then they lied and tried to blame FiNRA when it was confirmed to be there error. This messed up my whole work and study schedule, try Pearson as I have not experienced problems with them. Again the customer service at the center was horrible, no explanations were given, only a card and number to call (so no assistance rescheduling until I got a call at 5pm (my test was for 9:30am) saying I had to take it three days later and that was my only choice. read more

Some employees at Prometric are rude and unprofessional. I went to take a break at the break area and I took out my gatorade and snacks out of the locker. While doing it, a paper that is the Prometric schedule came out. One of the employees at Prometric came out and asked me to show what the paper was. I said it was a Prometric schedule. The employee did not apologize for her behavior. But another Indian looking employee started talking crap about me after the incident. I can understand that Prometric employees are responsible for monitoring cheaters. But they are just paranoid and rude! read more

I took my GRE at the Prometric East Syracuse location today. It was easy to find and the staff was friendly and efficient. I really appreciated the staff's dedication to taking COVID precautions, cleaning surfaces between each person and offering warnings and potential dismissal from the facility if masks were not worn correctly (above mouth and nose). This seriously eased my concerns about taking the test during COVID. Although people weren't physically distanced by 6 feet in the testing room, there were barriers and people were only facing forward to the computer, so that wasn't a big deal. They were also quickly attentive to you raising your hand if you needed to leave the room. The only drawback was that you could clearly hear staff talking amongst themselves and to other test takers right outside of the testing room. While they can't avoid talking to a student entering the room, they could've been a bit quieter or moved farther away talking amongst themselves as many people are sensitive to talking, myself included, as a big distractor when taking a test. This is why I didn't give it 5 stars. read more

I'm going to have to agree with Christian - its a testing center. They aren't there to cater to you - they are just there to make sure you can take your test, and that everything runs smoothly. I, for one, scoped out the place before the day of the test. The entrance you can use is the one by Garrett's Popcorn shop. There will be a big red sign with "One Penn Plaza" by the door. I cannot stress this enough - get there at least 30 minutes ahead of time! And be prepared to put everything away - you're assigned a cubby when you get in, and they give you pencils and scratch paper if you need it. I found the personnel were very nice and so long as you responded with respect and kindness, you'd receive it in turn. The only thing I could say is that I had a minor issue with inputting my school info on exam and they didn't know the test well enough to help me (it didn't effect my score or anything like that, so it was not a big deal and I figured out how to fix it on my own anyways) I didn't find it noisy at all, and didn't need to use the quiet headphones. The temperature was okay, and I could really just focus on my exam, which is all I ever wanted to do. Security measures were pretty standard, and none of them interfered with my test. Again, it's just a testing center - it is what it is and it works pretty well. read more

Would recommend this place over any of the smaller prometric centers. I typically go to the Purchase center, and will definitely be avoiding that from now on. This center was run so smoothly. I had an 8:30 exam and got there around 8:07, I think the cut-off for super smooth process is 8:10. A lot more people seemed to be arriving after 8:15, so I'm sure it gets a bit congested. They had me in taking my exam by 8:26. Super friendly and pleasant staff when checking in but the First Lady who gives you your locker and key wasn't pleasant. Everyone else was great. read more

Suite 1540 GRE My experience there was good, there was nothing that ruined the experience for me. I entered through the entrance between 7th and 8th avenue on 34th street. As soon as you walk in the revolving doors you'll approach a security desk where you just tell them you're going to Prometric and they'll ask you for your I.D, make sure your name is on the approved list and will then hand you a pass. I would advise to go early, no later than 30 minutes in advance. The Prometric Center is just like a doctors office just as someone previously described. There are waiting chairs, a couple desks where workers will assist you and a locker section. There are 3 rooms for testing and you'll be sent to one of them. Its a relatively small place. The worker that assisted me was friendly. My fingerprints weren't taken at any point during my time there. Only my picture was taken for identity purposes. The workers there in general are pleasant, don't expect them to smile at you and ask you how you're day is. They'll generally treat you with an apathetic attitude, however it's nothing to take seriously. They spend the whole day doing the same thing over and over, telling the same to to people over and over so you could understand if they aren't enthusiastic. Their job is to get you signed in, in a testing room and to make sure there is an orderly process, that's it. The exam process was good. You are given your own cubicle and they also supply you with headphones for noise canceling purposes. The chair was very comfortable and it was not cold or hot in the room. The central airconditioner was on, but not at one point did I get too cold. You're allowed to bring food, however you have to keep it in your locker and you're allowed to retrieve it during your break. You can't bring it to the testing room and you have to eat your food sitting on the waiting chairs which is fine. I had a 10 minute break and it's not as long as one might think. I went to the bathroom briefly, went back to the center, got my banana out of my locker, sat on one of the chairs, ate my banana pretty quickly, drank a cup of water at the fountain and by the time I went to one of the desks to sign back in to enter the room, I only had a little less than 2 minutes left. So don't bring something time consuming to eat. The bathroom code for the womens bathroom is 234#. Overall the experience was good, I plan on going back if I have to take an exam again. The only reason why the place got 4-stars instead of 5 is because you can hear the occasional ambulance and/or fire trucks out on the streets. It wasn't that loud or disruptive, you can just hear it slightly in the background and the headphones do help. However some people might be sensitive to noise. Don't avoid this test center for this reason, I would still recommend this place. read more

This is a review for the 17th floor and ANCC exam. Most of the staff that I encountered were professional and courteous. A couple of them could have been more considerate about their noise level, considering that it is a testing center. Tips: + Wear clothing that has the least amount of pockets (including hoods on hoodies/ jackets) because they check EVERY single time you enter/leave the testing room. + They provide you with noise-canceling headphones. I'm mainly writing this review to let test takers know that technical issues can occur, and it happened to me TWICE. Please note that no one was able to tell me if the technical issues were Prometric's fault or ANCC's. And I was never compensated or reimbursed. This is my story: On Friday, April 3rd, I took the ANCC FNP board examination. During the exam when I had 26 minutes and 55 seconds left, the computer screen FROZE. The moderator moved me to two other computer stations, and every time, the same screen came up frozen (same question and same remaining time). He called IT, and they were unable to resolve the issue over the phone. Because it was almost closing time, I guess there was nothing left for them to do but to leave me with a "Candidate Care" card that had the number to call their customer service to reschedule and retake the exam with no extra fee. On Saturday, April 4th, I called Prometric's CS. They took my confirmation number and told me that they would submit "my request" to retake the exam to their manager and that I would hear back in 48 to 72 business hours. On Monday, April 6th, I could not wait for Prometric to call me back, so I called the same number. They saw that my request had been approved (why I didn't receive a call sooner, I do not know), and I was able to reschedule the exam. On Wednesday, April 8th, I took the exam again. The test went smoothly, and I was able to complete and submit it. With the ANCC, you find out whether or not you pass right after (It does not show up on the computer screen. The moderator should be able to access it and print it from their computer.) However, my moderator was unable to bring up or even look up my score. Again, IT could not resolve the issue, and I was left with another Candidate Care card. I called right after, and they told me that they were not yet able to access my exam because I had just taken it. And that I would receive my score report card in the mail. It has been 18 days, and I still have not received anything in the mail. (Fortunately, I received an email from ANCC the next morning. If you're curious, I passed. :)) I submitted both a complaint and a claim for reimbursement to Prometric, and they told me that my situation should be referred to ANCC. And just this past week, ANCC emailed me with this statement, "ANCC and Prometric immediately corrected the issue and made things right for you, therefore a reimbursement is not necessary." This review is not meant to bring any anxiety to test takers. I just want people to know that this has happened. And though I would have loved to have been reimbursed for the hell that I went through, I am glad that everything still turned out okay. Good luck! read more

My experience here today was pretty abysmal. After being berated about rules that were never previously communicated via email, insisting that I received an apparently phantom telephone call and advising that my 1.5 inch hair clip was too large, I no longer wonder why this site has such a low rating. The clip issue was resolved by the manager taking 2 seconds to confirm there was no problem. Although, it took her 15 minutes to leave the break room to do so. The reception center associate was just down right rude. Instead of confirming that a telephone call and email were sent or saying that Prometric could take the opportunity make sure these reminders don't slip again, he simply insisted that I was wrong. It's already the beginning of an anxiety ridden few hours in which people are taking exams for all sorts of reasons, so please work on customer service training. read more

This place is truly a joke. I have no idea how any of these people still hold jobs. If taking a test isn't stressful enough it will be kicked up a couple of notches for having to test here. The staff are extremely rude and condescending. No idea what the problem is but if they don't like their jobs they should find employment elsewhere instead of acting like jerks. read more

Took USMLE Step 1 here on the 15th floor and thought they were pretty professional. The guy at the front check was kind of curt with the person in front of me who was clearly flustered that she didn't have a confirmation code for her test, but everyone else was courteous. Special shoutout to Fred, the guy who checked me in/out of my testing room, for being super nice and making an otherwise miserable 8 hours as smooth as possible. Tips and comments: - Get to the building at least 30 min early because you'll have to get an ID at the front desk. If entering from 34th St, veer left for the elevators to 15-23 (go right if you're coming in from 33rd St.) - There's a rack for coats and a bank of small lockers. I took another reviewer's advice and brought as little as possible, but you could easily fit a medium-sized backpack in there. - No food or drinks allowed in the testing center in the hallway (as per building management). Apparently people don't really care about the latter as long as you clean up after yourself. I ate my lunch standing up in the bathroom because I didn't want to bother going all the way downstairs to Starbucks...one of the employees saw me in there and said I could have sat in the hallway. You also have to go outside if you want to use your phone or glance over review materials, even before any testing begins. - Temperature was fine for me, though I'd bundled up in 3 layers just in case because I tend to get cold easily. Try to avoid wearing things with a lot of pockets as they have to check them every single time you go in. - One really annoying thing was sirens and construction noise going on outside, but they provide noise-canceling headphones so I guess it's ok for most people. I just personally don't like them because it feels eerily quiet =P read more

I came here to take my GRE. I've taken the SAT, SAT II, and TOEFL in the past, so I feel like I have some experience with testing centers -- and this one is pretty bad. The staff is rude and their communication skills are bad enough to actually impede test-takers because they fail to explain policies adequately. Everyone at this center acted like test-takers were criminals or minor irritants, to be avoided at all costs. The facilities themselves are depressing (understandably) but the bathroom's distance from the testing area is another unforgivable obstacle; when one has five minutes between test sections and it takes 1.5 minutes to walk to the bathroom... That presents a distinct disadvantage. Finally (and this is probably more relevant to ETS policies in general than this testing center in particular): I find it ridiculous that in this day & age, there would be no water permitted inside a testing room that requires spurts of 2-3 hour activity at a time. People need to hydrate, and asking test-takers to be without water for so long definitely affects their productivity. read more
