Cool rock climbing place! I don't have a lot of upper body strength so this place is not ideal for me. However my husband and his brother like to come here and climb the walls. There are lots of different stations to choose from based on your experience with climbing. It's neat to watch people really get into it and climb every nook and cranny. They have climbing shoes to rent and little cubbies to hold your shoes and personal items. You'll sign a waiver when you arrive and there is a lot of friendly staff to assist you. Had no idea this gym was back here! I've been living here all my life, and have never gone indoor rock climbing, and really this place is awesome. Normally you need a membership, which is affordable at $60 a month unlimited, but today I was able to use a free one day pass as I am friends with a member. When you walk in it is astonishing how high the ceilings and how massive the top rope rock walls are, sprawling throughout the facility, with the front half spanning 40 feet high, and the back 60 feet high. They also have a really nice bouldering wall, lined with thick, fluffy mats. The routes are changed multiple times a week and are always carefully marked with colors and difficulty level to make it easy for climbers of all skills to find a route that works for them. There is no locker room, but the bathroom is clean. I was able to change in there and leave my bag at a table and seating area near the front desk and bouldering wall. The atmosphere feels very friendly and safe, and I had zero concern for my things being touched or taken. The staff was very friendly, Ricky was so helpful giving me a detailed tour around the entire facility and explaining the function of everything. My day pass also included a harness and shoes. Make sure to go with a friend who knows what they're doing or be prepared to talk to other climbers to get help with balaying, which as a beginner climber i was not certified to do. Luckily I was there with two friends who were able to do this for me and for each other as it requires a class. I really loved this place, if not for my affinity for keeping long nails, I would already have a membership here. That definitely held me back while climbing , but I was still able to scale even some of the 60 foot walls. So much fun! I am super sore two days later. Had no idea some of these muscles existed in my arms, back and shoulders. I Can't wait to come back. read more

Project Rock is in Oakland Park and is the home to some of the tallest rock climbing walls in the US from 40 to 60 ft! What better way to realize your fear of heights... and then overcome them! I came with a few friends for Global Climbing Day and they had a deal of 50% off day passes and climbing gear all day. Upon entering, you can pretty much see the whole gym and the towering climbing walls. You sign waivers and are given gear, if needed. After that, you take a tour of the gym and the guide explains it all. In the front, there is a map on the wall; the states colored in brown are destinations across the country that their climbing walls represent. Instead of going to the mountains, Project Rock brings the mountains to Oakland Park! I know, super cool. A couple of my friends are all belay certified so we were able to take turns climbing. If you were interested in that, they offer courses for it. If you're a beginner, there are two not-so-high walls in the front. Other than those two, the rest of the routes are very tall. They also have a section for bouldering which is climbing without the harness. I'm making it a goal to make it to the top of one of their 60ft walls one day. I might even challenge myself to their center climb which includes a stalactite that naturally shakes when climbing it! read more

This gym is perfectly fine, and likely above average (although I'm spoiled with the number of gyms in the Denver area), but compared to another recent stop on my trip (High Point Climbing in Birmingham, AL) I just can't bring myself to give it 5 stars. One thing that was really great about this gym, though, is that you can pay to have a private hour with a staff member who'll belay you if you're just visiting and don't have a partner. No auto-belays here (yay!!) and I'm sure once passing the belay test it wouldn't be too hard to find someone to pair up with. But, for someone with limited time who just wants to get a climb in, the $50 private hour is well worth it. I believe this includes gear rental, but I didn't need that so I'm not sure. All in all, great place if you're in the area and probably even better if you're local. There are a large variety of walls and they're up to 60ft high. I was impressed to see routes ranging from 5.5 to 5.12 or higher. As a very "average" climber, I found the 5.9s sufficiently challenging (and even some of the 5.8s near the end of my climb!). Certainly, I think serious climbers will find routes worth doing. There's also a bit of bouldering but it didn't seem like a ton. read more

I've been visiting project rock for years and this is one of the best kept secrets of south Florida. Each visit I am impressed by how thoughtfully designed the space is, you truly feel as if you are climbing outdoors and that feels extra special in Florida since climbing outdoors is impossible. Each sections is designed after the rocks of a different area of the country, the picnic area has mulch and picnic tables perfect for a rest spot, and the bathrooms feel as if you're in a cabin. The staff is always very patient and helpful and pricing is very reasonable for the day pass and the equipment rental. My only call out is that staff does not belay climbers which means you must take a course to learn to belay. I personally think this creates an even better atmosphere of people who are interested enough in climbing to commit to learning. However as a beginner it is something you need to account for in your first visit. All in all I love project rock and would give 10 out of 5 stars if I could. read more

Do not trust them with your kids, there are so many good camps in broward but this is not one. Came to Project Rock with a group from my CrossFit gym to take a rock climbing class. The staff there is super friendly and VERY helpful/patient - especially since many of us were first timers. They showed us how to wear the harness properly and motivated us to try out some "practice walls" before we got into some of the harder ones. I didn't think I had an issue with heights but climbing up the walls the first few times was very anxiety inducing. With that said, I felt very confidant that the staff who was helping us "belay" were very knowledgeable but you have to put a lot of trust in a person you just met to make sure they don't let you fall. I tried a few different walls and I'll admit I did not expect it to be as physically taxing as it was. After a few climbs I was sore and tired. Pretty sure my hands and forearms hurt for several days afterwards. Overall, this was such a fun (indoor) experience that I'd recommend to anyone. Everyone we encountered from the staff to the other members were so fun and friendly - you can tell they've built a great community of climbers in such a flat place like Florida! If you're looking for a fun but challenging activity for a group or even a date, I highly recommend Project Rock and cannot wait to come back again! read more

I am such a fan of Project Rock, before and during the pandemic. I am not a regular, but I'm definitely trying to be considering the gym offers incredible opportunities to climb different styles of mountains (each section is hand-designed based on US climbing destinations) and a truly welcoming community. I visited about twice before everything shut down. I have since ventured back in October/November of 2020, knowing they have put safety measures in place such as decreased capacity, sanitizing stations near every section, mask requirements (no matter how high you climb), and closing off adjacent routes so folks can keep social distancing at any elevation. On several occasions, I've seen staff climbing up to clean and sanitize the walls and holds. The bathrooms are also in impeccable shape, as is the picnic area where the cubbies and benches are located. Most recently, I signed up for a membership AND a belay course with Antonia, who taught me and helped me get #certified - hit me up Yelpers, I would be more than happy to help you out if you're nervous about climbing (or need a friend to show you the ropes, hah). The routes are changed every season or so, which means there's always a new challenge right about the time you've mastered one. Routes are color coded, so you can plan out your climb from 60 feet down. There are even routes that rely on mountain features (like cracks, crevices, and stalactites), which are a truly fun challenge. If you're not climbing via top rope, you can also lead climb (no thank you, that's terrifying) or boulder (no equipment needed). The community is what keeps me coming back though - from the staff to the other climbers (albeit, I've come with a friend every time), everyone is warm and welcoming. You might even get tips and tricks from folks who have been on the same wall before. During the lowered capacity, some routes you may have to wait for. But there are routes of all levels open every time, and I can't wait to increase my climbing level with every visit! read more

Fun! You can climb classic famous US crags - Yosemite, Joshua tree, Tennessee , Wyoming ...all in one visit ! I've climbed my fair share of plastic all over the world and outdoors too. I have to say this is hands down the most realistic indoor rock features I've scaled. When I attempted the routes without manufactured holds, relying solely on features, I descended exhilarated, gaping in disbelief I just finished a 60' artificial wall that gave me the stoke of an outdoor climb. Except there I was in AC, and just a few steps from the most natural gym outhouse ever... see my photos. What a gem for the Floridian here with no access to real rocks. Staff were friendly and helpful. My kids are competitive youth climbers and got on some of their Comp routes set a few weeks prior for a usa Climbing sanctioned Comp. Totally enjoyed the setting. Project Rock is not unlike most climbing gyms in that they have a ban on youth climbers (under age 13) performing lead climbing. Climbing experience is not considered, climbing ability is not considered, first and foremost is age. USA Climbing, the climbing industry (insurance and most gym operators) are to blame. Not all climbing gyms adhere to this crazy policy. And there are exceptions for youth on the gym climbing team - but it does nothing for out of towners or for youth not on the climbing team. As for the actual gym - tall walls are ok, Boulder wall is ok, kilter board is hidden gem, staff is generally friendly. Not much in the way of nearby food establishments. Limited hours of operation during the weekdays. read more

Today is a big PROUD. We took the kids Indoor climbing. Our 4 yr old Rye is a huge sensory seeker with a massive desire to climb. We have been saying for a long time that we should take him climbing. Well, in honor of Autism Awareness month I pulled the trigger and found a place that would take him on a private 1 on 1 session. I spoke with the manager on the phone and explained his Autism and inability to communicate paired with his desire and joy of climbing. The staff was incredible and they were actually really excited about it. As soon as we walked in Rye started jumping and yelling. He couldn't wait to get harnessed up. My teen- McKinley, who initially rolled her eyes at the idea of climbing was even excited. Rye did incredible and so did M. Rye Lee found his lines and scrambled up the walls with shocking speed. Everyone in the place couldn't help but stop and watch as we tried to communicate from the bottom and have him sign more or all done so we knew if he was finished. In total, he scaled 4 walls with varying difficulty. To say he impressed everyone in the building is an understatement. You know, I really hated it when we were first diagnosed and people would assume that he would have a special Autism talent. We were still processing everything and would hear "Oh he will be really good at math or have a photogenic memory or play a million different instruments." I know that's not everyone's truth and it's a huge misconception that every Autistic kid has a special ability. I didn't want to set myself up for another heartbreak. BUT I think we may have found his Autism Super Power. I'm going to keep taking my fearless boy back and until he signs that he is all done. We're going to follow his lead... well not actually because we can't keep up but we will be cheering him on as he climbs to amazing heights! read more

Don't know where to start. This place is freaking amazing! I'm a beginner climber so I took the refresher course which was very fun and learned and more than at my previous rock climbing gym. They take safety here very serious. I came in with two of my buddy's and we were here for almost 5hrs climbing. They had never climbed before and were hooked. I plan on going again this weekend to get the monthly membership. The amount of work, care, and detail that was put into this climbing gym is remarkable. This place ROCKs! My first time at a real climbing facility. I came with my daughter and a friend who is an experienced climber. When we first walked in, its a pretty amazing sight to see. This place was built from the ground up with climbing in mind, 60+ foot ceilings and everything looked amazing. We were greeted and given the official tour. They have electronic waivers to fill out and then we basically got the needed equipment and were on our way to get checked on our belaying. Even though I was with an experienced climber the staff still had to verify we all knew what we were doing and I thought this was good on many aspects. Safety first! After all the testing, essentially we were off, or on as in hooked on and climbing. They have many levels of rock to climb. It is intimidating at first but once you get confident that you will not fall and you are safe you really start to have a lot more fun. Its definitely a challenge too and it requires a good technique, or else you will use too much muscle and your forearms will feel pumped. They also have an area for bouldering, which is where you can climb with no harness. There are holds to descent safely and there is also a very thick padding if you fall, so you wont get hurt. I was impressed with the facility. Even though it got packed there was still plenty of room to move around and use the different ropes/climbs. Overall, this is a great place to go and have a lot of fun. Beginners should not feel worried, its very safe but it is a little intimidating being so high off the ground. Experienced climbers will love this place as there is many challenging areas in the facility. My daughter had a blast and didnt want to leave. We will be back for sure! read more

Literally. -Couldn't get enough of the crack walls! Be sure to tape your hands up when 'jamming'. Especially the back of your hand and a few knuckle spots. There's a dollar store in the plaza that has them. -Stalagmite & stalactite were nice. Very picturesque. -Um, 60m rope anyone? -Wasn't too crazy for the bouldering section. -Bring a bar or two. PROJECT ROCK-is a great place to rock climb! There's so many different levels of climbing and the center wall has a detached rock that moves-making the experience challenging and fun! Taking a belaying class is highly recommend-so you can learn and understand how to properly tie yourself and assist a climber. Climbed three walls-and had to stop midway on one-my long nails(which are not good to rock climb with) and my short arms made me bow out gracefully.. This was my first time climbing and let me just state that I am scared of heights! But it was such a fun exciting and thrilling experience for me! When you walk in it's pretty awesome to see the different types of climbing which is on the left and to the right there is bouldering which is a little bit more challenging, there is no harness but you fall on a soft mat which is fine and also happened to me LOL. Couple of things you need to do when you walk in is sign a waiver and if it's your first time, there is an instructor that will give you an orientation as far as the different types of rock climbing safety measures. Once he is done you will sign another form stating that you understand everything from the orientation. You will then get rock climbing shoes a harness and a little bag with chalk in case your hands get sweaty while you're climbing. It's good to go some with someone that can belay you. The instructors that work there are only there to make sure everyone is safe on the floor. But I climbed up to 25 feet on the beginners wall path. I also tried bouldering and that was fun too! I'm always open to try new things and if you are someone who likes the same and has never gone indoor rock climbing I strongly suggested I cannot wait to go back. I also learned that every three weeks more or less they change the obstacles for the rock climbing. There are still beginners to a more advanced range but they always change it! read more
