This facility is for the use of the students and staffs of NSU. You must bring your student ID to enter. However, one can definitely bring a guest in for $10/day or $25 for three consecutive visits. I started to use this facility almost 3.5 years ago when I first started at the Nova Southeastern University. I actually came here on my day one to get used to the place. I have to say the students working here are incredibly sweet and will help you however they can. This gym is by far the best gym I have ever been to. They have state of the art equipments and are always renovating. Starting on the third floor you can find multitudes of treadmills, elliptical, stair masters and bikes. The restrooms are also on this floor. On the second floor all the way in the back you even have rooms to play squash. Next to the squash room, there is a designated room lined with huge mats where you can do ab workouts. They even have two cages where you can stretch pre and post workout. Speaking of workouts, on this floor they have everything from free weights, to multiple squat racks, to bench press, platform for deadlifts and tons of machines for weight lifting. There are also two basketball courts. You will also find water fountains at every corner. Finally on the bottom floor is where you have dance studio type rooms where they provide various workout classes ranging from yoga to boot camps. Don't forget to ask the front desk for a schedule as that changes semester to semester. All the way in the back of the main floor you can also find the locker room. Bring your own lock and you are allowed to use lockers that are open. They have restrooms in here too. As I said, this gym has it all. It's one of the best gyms I have ever used. read more

Ok this is what a gym should be like! Located in the Don Taft University center, the NSU RecPlex is 110,000 square feet of fitness bad-assness!!!! Want to lift weights? Sure! There are enough weights here for Arnold to train for Mr. Olympia - 2 complete racks of dumbells, 84 strength machines, and benches galore. Feel like some sports? No problem - 2 mulitpurpose courts for basketball or volleyball and 3 indoor racquetball courts. How about some cardio? You will NEVER wait for a machine with almost 100 pieces of cardio equipment. Feel like a swim? There's an outdoor pool that's heated in the winter, and access to the competition swimming pool that the NSU swim team uses. Oh and if that's not enough, there is a 2 story rock climbing wall and classes including yoga, spinning, and pilates. The best part? The price... If you are a student it's FREEEEEE (that's the least they can do for the tuition at Nova). If you are faculty/staff - $25 a month. I am an NSU student and I am pretty satisfied with this gym. I am a huge buff for the group excercises! I absolutely love them! Maria and Lourdes are my favorite! They talk to you throughout the whole class and motivate you. They also come around and check your form to make sure you are doing the exercises correctly. They do body sculp, spinning, tabata, hiphop, yoga and much more.This gym also offers pilates, aqua exercises and personal training. The classes are scattered all through out the day, so if you have a busy schedule you can choose a time thats best for you. Some classes start at 6:15am and some even at 8pm. The cost is free for nova students and I think to bring a friend its $7 (probably not worth it if your not a student). Im not much of a weight lifter, so I just mainly stick to the group excercises. The machines and weight section seems pretty nice though. They also have a bunch of cardio machines on the 3rd floor and just recently got a step master. I do notice the weight lifting section become pretty packed sometimes. They also have basketball courts and a rock climbing section smack dab in the middle of the gym! Pretty cool. You don't know what you got till it's gone... The overall feeling of all my friends about this gym is that it's very extensive and clean compared to franchise gyms, and it's FREE (for students)! I didn't start utilizing this gym until my second year and didn't think much of it since I was just starting out. However, after seeing other gyms on my away rotations, I was definitely longing to be back at the RecPlex. They have pretty much every machine and piece of equipment you need, free weights up to 100lbs, a rock wall, two basketball courts, 3 racquetball courts, and classes galore. You may find yourself waiting for a squat rack at the busiest hours, but it goes by quickly and all the gym-goers are nice. I also appreciate the cold water in the fountains (although I'd stay away from the one on the left side of the racquetball courts). Top it off with a friendly staff that greet you on your way in and out. Overall, can't get any better especially considering the price :) read more

I enjoy coming here to workout. The gym has various activities for different things. They have intramural sports, group exercises, raquetball, a swimming pool, and two floors of exercise eqiupment. I love how everything is spread out so you don't feel to congested. They even have a recyclable water fountain that has purified water! :) It's best to come here during non-rush hours so you don't have to worry about getting the equipment you want. When I attended UNLV for my undergrad, I was incredibly spoiled in the sense that the rec center was stocked with fancy equipment, tons of group fitness classes, an indoor running track, a clean locker room, among other things. When I moved to Florida for grad school, I felt like a gym snob but was quite pleased with what the NSU Recplex had to offer. The gym is located inside the student union of NSU. Comprised of three floors. Floor 1 is where you can find your locker rooms and group fitness rooms. Although I haven't attended a fitness class, I hear that Zumba on Wednesday nights and Saturday morning spin classes are quite awesome. Floor 2 are the two basketball courts, racquetball courts, and the weights. Really roomy - I never feel as though I'm in someone's way when I sprawl out my mat to stretch out. Floor 3 is where all of the cardio machines are. Lots of treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bicycles. In the back corner on the third floor, you can even find a punching bag for those of you that had boxing gloves. I'm sure a lot of us students can use that to relieve some stress! What I love about this gym is how clean it is. There are antibacterial wipes everywhere. There's always someone wiping down the machines and cleaning up the bathrooms. It's nice to walk into a gym without it smelling profusely of sweat and grime. I only wish this place was open longer on the weekends (on weekdays they're open until midnight). I went to an undergrad school with 30,000 students where the gym was the size of the Nova student center-so for me the NSU gym seems small in comparison. But for the size of the school it's an awesome facility. Everything is always clean (and people are pretty good about wiping stuff down) and the equipment is fairly new and kept in good working order. Every once in a while a machine will have an "out of order" sign. The first floor is the fitness studios and locker rooms. Classes are 7 days a week but primarily M-F. I've taken a good amount and they're pretty variable. Depends on the teacher. As a former instructor I may be pickier than most though. Spinning you have to sign up for 30 minutes ahead to reserve a bike and bring water and a towel or you're not allowed in. The second floor is the basketball court and weight room along with the first floor of the rock wall. This has to be done supervised with harnesses at certain times obviously. The third floor houses all the cardio equipment and some mats and random stuff. Overlooks the basketball courts and outside through frosted glass. Kind of cool. All in all this is a really nice (free for students!) place to work out. I think guest passes and outside memberships are available as well. As an employee, we are extended the opportunity to participate in the Plus 30 program. What is that you ask? Well, NSU is committed to keeping their employees healthy and introduced a program that is designed to assist and encourage us to incorporate health and wellness activities into our daily routine. We are permitted, with supervisory approval, to modify our work day and take advantage of the RecPlex. I usually go during my lunch and tack on the extra 30 minutes either at the beginning or the end of my work day depending on how long I need to check the back of my eyelids for cracks each morning LOL In other words, I'm not a natural early riser. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I usually take advantage of the Spin-Bata class with Marcela on Mondays. Today, babyyyyyy, Marcela was a beast with it which naturally motivates me to go into beast mode too. I had a sprain last month so I hadn't been on the bike in a while and I. Felt. Every. Day. I. Missed!!! Spin-Bata is a combination of spinning and then you get off the bike and do a bit of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), then you get back on the bike----rinse and repeat for an hour! You are encouraged to go at your own pace and listen to your body. The dark room, the pumping beats and the sweat dripping down your brow makes you forget anything that is happening at work or home. It's hard. Hmmm, I need a better word or words to better describe the experience. It's POWERFUL, it's ENDURANCE, it's PUSHING YOURSELF because each time she directs you to crank up the resistance, it is YOU that must decide just how much more you want to take. Don't sell yourself short, this is South Florida and it is ALWAYS bikini and beach weather. Go the distance! Then afterwards, jump in the showers which are clean and well maintained. There are also lockers available for rent or you can bring your own lock and use them daily but remember you must take your clothes and your lock with you at the end of your gym session. I also use the free weights when I'm not attending a class. There are ample sani-hands canisters (sanitizers) around to wipe down your equipment before use. They have treadmills and other cardio items on the top floor and a rock wall. I find the gym to be less crowded during lunch BUT the New Year's Resolutioners are coming soon. I expect to have to get to the bike EARLY for at least a month or so until it dies down... If you are an employee at the main campus, look into joining for $15 per pay period. What I do want to request is a trash can in both the spin room and in the room that classes such as HIIT or Tabbata are offered. After wiping down your mat, kettle bell, etc, you're pretty much stuck with the wipe unless you walk outside of the room and around the corner to dispose of it. Even a trash can inside of the equipment room would be appreciated and out of the way. Also, it would be great to have a nightly or weekly wipe down of the lockers that aren't reserved. For the last 2 months, an unreserved locker has had a used corn cushion (for your toes) inside of it. With the presence of so many sanitizers, one would assume that sanitation is important. Adding the receptacles and a wipe down of the lockers aligns with this perception. Overall, I enjoy my experience each time. This gym is very clean and roomy, staff is friendly (though a little distracted at times) and locker rooms are clean and big enough that finding a spot is never a problem. However, the 3 rather than 5 stars are because: A) their hours change too often and with rather short warning, and B) there are way too many "nanny" rules which make the experience similar to working out in that purple & yellow gym chain. Some of the rules I get for safety and/or to avoid damaging the equipment, but some make little to no sense (i.e. no access kettlebells unless a trainer is present, no large bags, no weights allowed on the upper level cardio area). read more

The staff is awful. They are incompetent and disrespectful to their guests. I wish I could give them less than a star because they are worth nothing more than the scum lacing the machines. The front desk staff as well as the other vultures that are roaming around as faculty are nazis on unnecessary rules. The "no bag" rule is my favorite. You are not allowed to carry a bag in the recplex. You can rent a locker and rent a lock to store your belongings, but even with a lock I've known two people personally to have things stolen. Their classes (and instructors) are good, yoga, cycling, etc., but not worth the trouble of dealing with any other person that works there.
