Progressive loves to market its Snapshot program as a way to "reward good driving," but don't be fooled--it's more of a trap than a benefit. In reality, they use it to surcharge you into unaffordable monthly premiums. I clearly did not read the fine print carefully enough when I signed up, but now I'm stuck with a $325 surcharge on top of a $190+ monthly premium--all because of hard braking in Austin traffic. Seriously?! If you've ever driven here, you know slamming on the brakes is practically a survival skill. The nerve of them to penalize me for avoiding accidents! Lesson learned: be very cautious with insurance companies and their so-called "savings programs." Progressive turned out to be just like the rest--quick to take your money and slow to offer real solutions. I'm officially over it. Now, I'm looking for better auto insurance options and ideally a bundle with home insurance. If anyone has recommendations for a company that actually values its customers (and doesn't sneak in ridiculous fees), I'm all ears! read more

Got hit by a man who quite literally decided to switch lanes into me. He lied and said he had no insurance and I called police. Police informed me he did have insurance but his license was expired and said he admitted he was completely at fault. I paid thousands in repairs. My insurance took his to court and somehow got me nothing back even though the police report said he was at fault. Insurance agent and her supervisor also rarely answered my calls throughout the process. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. I have had a progressive auto policy for six years now and have never filed a claim. I've had to make adjustments but never filed a claim with them at all. Got a renewal letter last month letting me know that my rate was dropping. I'm like yay finally it's coming down. Well I moved 20 miles and changed my address. Due to that they have raised my rate. Like WTF progressive! When I called and asked about it I was told it was because I moved. WHAT? Everyone does it she says. Call around. I was like I've been with you for 6 years and you don't care if I change companies because my loyalty meant nothing. Thanks for making me feel less than because I moved 20 miles away. Guess I'm gonna look around for something different because loyalty means nothing to progressive. After 6 years and not one claim I figured my payment should go down. read more

SUV was broke down with a broken tie rod. Progessive direct stated there was no help available for us in the small town of Rose CiTy MI. Been waiting well over 24 hours now. Just called a local towing company. They are on their way!!Not a good experience with them. Glad it wasn't in the middle of the night with freezing weather. Thanks for nothing Progressive Direct. You just lost a customer!!! read more

I use a local Progressive Agent now, and I strongly recommend always going with a local agent. If you want really cheap insurance that you never plan on using, then maybe consider Progressive Direct. However, I've had to use Progressive Direct 3 times and all 3 times have been a total disaster. The first time, someone crossed 2 lanes of traffic into my lane and smashed into me head on (they were going the wrong direction). Granted, I only had liability insurance at this time as I was young. I filed a police report and got everything done. Progressive Direct said there was nothing they would do, as I had only gotten the make, model, color of vehicle, phone number and name of the other person and they weren't answering their phone or returning calls. Second time, a deer jumped out in front of me. Totaled the vehicle, I was told I was at no fault and they covered everything, seemed great. I signed my vehicle over to Progressive as instructed and I asked if I would have to remove the vehicle off my policy or if it would fall off after they finished the claim. My insurance agent assured me it would drop off my policy and I would have nothing to worry about. Eight months later, I found the vehicle still on my policy. I called Progressive to ask for a credit or refund, as my agent told me it wasn't my responsibility to remove it. They said they would remove the vehicle; but it was company policy not to issue credits or refunds in situations like this... Which means this happens often enough that they have a policy for it. I should have dropped them then; but for some reason did not. Third time, a person cut me off and while slowing down, the person behind me hit me while passing on my left. Progressive refused to send people out to look at my vehicle and insisted I use their snapshot program. Then they spend as much time as possible telling me my version of events was wrong, it was my fault I was hit from behind and they told me no matter what, even if I proved my version of events, they would label me equally at fault with the person who hit me. So if you want useless, cheap insurance, go with Progressive Direct. Otherwise, always use a local agent. read more

Horrible and unethical company. Their underwriting team messed up my policy by adding a CRV instead of a Civic to the plan. After that they raised my rate three times in less than three weeks and threatened to cancel my plan based on their own error and mistakes. When I called them out on this the representative on the phone was nonchalant and didn't care to acknowledge their mistakes. Plus they tried to raise my rate based on how long I stayed my previous insurance provider which was a long time. I have never had to do this with any insurance company which was shady. I cancelled today and signed up with State Farm. Way better experience than Progressive and they are light years ahead in their customer service. Just imagine if this is how they treat you at the beginning of a policy then how it will be when you need them in the event of an accident or filing a claim. No thanks and happy to move on. read more

I had a horrible experience with them. They kept raising my rates. They raised my rates $200 a month and told me it was because there was a hurricane and I have to pay more because of it. They gave me no definitive answers. They treated me poorly. Customer service was non-existent. I had the most horrible experience with this insurance company. I recommend that anyone that is looking for insurance avoid these people at all costs. They are absolutely heartless. read more

Apparently my previous review was confusing. Let me say this, Progressive gave great service over the six years I was a customer, if by "great service" you mean that they took my money faithfully for six years (always on time). I never had to make a claim in that entire six years. What made me angry was the way I was treated when I went to purchase a new vehicle. I was a loyal customer who gave plenty of money and asked for nothing in return. read more

I have a complaint. I am very dissatisfied with the introduction of you as my provider for auto insurance. I am working with Kenya Adderley, and waiting to hear from supervisor, Alain Rodriguez. When stated that my vehicle was hit while parked at my residence, and then filed with police as a hit and run. I also stated that I did not see the incident occur. As I was not in my vehicle, it was not running, nor were there any witnesses. A neighbor told me of damage almost 8 hours later I am now being asked to accept terms of a collision claim. I would like to understand why? When this is clearly a Hit and Run, filled as such with law enforcement. Why, when I was not operating my vehicle, should a claim go against my driving and insurance record. This is very disappointing, as a brand new platinum policy holder who has paid in full. Not to mention the confusion with being duped into a rental car that you will not fully cover. I did not ask to be put into an SUV or anything comparable. But I am now having to come out of pocket for the error. This is very upsetting, as I thought you would be my advocate. Instead, I feel like you are treating me as the party at fault. My vehicle was hit while parked. I am not the criminal. Thank you, read more

Seriously. Crappy. Accident. Fault. Declaration. Policies. Seriously. Don't be involved in an accident while insured by Progressive. Especially one that is CLEARLY not your fault but that involved other vehicles. One month later, still haven't officially declared who was at fault. Even though they have the police report. And my statement. And the statements of both other vehicles who hit me. Seriously. read more

What a shitty way to start my day: Walk outside, keys in hand, singing that damned Beyonce song I can't get out of my head, and I notice the driveway is sparkling like diamonds. Ooh, pretty! Wait. Is that... glass? Ahh, misguided youth, the downfall of the American family unit, the disintegration of our school system, what thugs you have unleashed on the good people of Austin. After a few choice curses, some tears and a thorough examination of the damage, I call Progressive, which, incidentally, I had just switched to, for a monthly savings of $40/month for 2 cars. The agent I spoke to was sympathetic, which I needed at that moment, and helpful, which I REALLY needed, and had me set up with an appointment the next day. When I arrived at the claims office, the agent greeted me by name (since I'd never been there I assume she looked out the window and matched up my car description in my file, which I find very classy) and had me out the door in a rental 2009 Toyota Rav4 in about 5 minutes. An hour later I got a phone call from the assessor, telling me they had found some cosmetic damage on the interior plastic molding (the car is 9 years old, the whole damn thing is cosmetic damage) and if I chose not to have it repaired, they would waive my deductible. Um, yes please! An hour after that, he called back to say they had found some cosmetic damage on the bumper, if I chose not to repair that, they would cut me a check for $50. The what now? Some future prison inmate smashes in my car windows and I get a sweet rental car for a week, all new windows and tinting, AND 50 bucks? I want to go to there. Thanks, Progressive, you made what had the potential to derail my 2010 into a truly pleasant experience. And, hey, assclown, if you want to come back and key my paint job, be my guest! read more

The most over priced car insurance on the market. I have an 05 Ford Mustang; I'm 49 years old, had one illegal u-turn ticket last year. I would rate Progressive with zero stars if I could. read more

I took advantage of the snapshot program in order to reduce my monthly rate based on the safety of my driving. After months of careful driving I ended up with a B+ record and recieved an email saying I received over $100 in saving over a 6 month period. Yet when I looked at my new monthly statements I am now paying $10 more per month than before. It turns out regardless of how well I drove my rate was going to increase based on where I live. So I feel incredibly ripped off that I put so much effort into a program advertised as a way to reduce my monthly rate. When the truth being I simply reduced the policy increasing from $30 to $10. read more

Progressive is an insurance company only in name. After, unfortunately, making the acquaintance of another driver, that driver filed a claim against me to Progressive. The driver alleged that I made contact with their car while turning left past them. Police took a report, which cited that, while the other fellow had a small scrape (which clearly occurred long ago), my vehicle had no damage. I also informed police that there was no contact, pointed out that the color of driver #2's damage did not match any color on my car, and driver #2's wife even commented moments after the 'crash' "I don't know how you wiped that damage off of your car, but you did something !" I can hear the coo-coo sounds now. The officers did not cite anyone (that should have carried some weight of fact with this insurance company). After sending Progressive several tens of photos showing no damage anywhere on my car, they admitted that they couldn't confirm what happened, but only said "well, something happened !" They then went ahead and found me at fault anyway (huh ?), slammed my clean license with 4 friggin' points, and raised the 1/2 year premium by 50% (and that's if I pay it all at once). . The adjuster (used sparingly) that I spoke to on the phone seemed to lack the ability to know right from left, or North from South as I explained the scenario to him. (The only better job is a TV weatherman). . Previously, living in North Carolina for 30 years I enjoyed an entirely clean record. Living now, in Florida, for just about 3 years, I see that this is a nut-state and that Progressive adjudicates based on word, not fact. What a rotten company ! Although very polite and friendly, agents give wrong quotes. The coverage was NOT as I had asked for, making it $150+ short for the policy period (6 mths). I saw (they told me NO RUSH to sign the papers - now I know why), on the third page of 6 or so, of the pages I was e-signing, that I was WAIVING my pip coverage although I had specifically stated I wanted to RAISE it to $5000 per person. The paper I was to sign had me WAIVING it, altogether, and when I called, I was told I had $5000 GUEST PIP, meaning neither myself nor anyone with me over 16 years old was covered. TOTALLY NOT what I had requested and was given a 'quote' for...so I owed them the difference. On top of that, although it was less than 20 minutes after the sale, they were able to cancel the policy immediately, yet STILL had to wait 2 days to TAKE the money for the cancelled policy and another 2 days to return it. A TOTAL PAIN to deal with. read more

If you are injured in an accident by someone insured by Progressive insurance, my recommendation is to hire an attorney to represent you in claims negotiations immediately. In July, 2011, one of my company's large delivery trucks was "T-Boned" and totaled by a Progressive insured as he ran a red light. 3 of my employees were injured. I have paid out of my pocket for lost wages, medical/hospital expenses, and administrative expenses of $25,000 and as of May 2012 have not been paid a dime. Further, they offered a paltry $750-$1000 as compensation for pain and suffering to these 3 men for their injuries. I was told their policy is to not make any injury payments until all therapy and medical is complete. I've now waited 9 months--what if the injuries were more severe--years? They really need to make 0 stars an option. So my girlfriend gets backed into while she's out of town. The front bumper and panel get dinged, along with the headlight getting smashed on her '84 Lexus. Good news is they left their contact. Bad news is they have Progressive insurance. Here we go. . . Progressive declares their driver at fault (duh), and so the process begins. GF is out of town and the car is not street legal with the light out, so the agency agrees to tow it. The towing company Progressive uses however, looked at the age of the car and declared it totaled before it has even been appraised. They refuse to tow, even at direct orders from Progressive. After much arguing, Progressive finally agrees to stick with what they said, and they find a way to tow it. That was the last time Progressive does what they said they would do. The estimate comes in at $2800 for that ding in the front. However when asked, "Is that going to total the car", they said "No, this model retains it's worth well, and your car is in otherwise great shape." Relieved, she gives the go ahead for the repairs. Next day Progressive calls up saying the car appraises at $1800 and they're declaring it a total loss. The person who gave the estimate was not the appraiser, and wasn't in the position to say whether it was totaled or not, or so their logic was. However, the estimate included damage that was already on the car, and not from the accident. Unshockingly, they over estimated the damage and undervalued the car, so they could screw her. We can either turn the car over for $2300 or keep the car and take $1300. So we get to talking with an injury lawyer, and on free advise they tell us to A)ask for more money and B)no matter what, don't accept the car back as salvage. Progressive says the prices are non-negotiable, but will give the $1300 check without declaring the car salvaged. She asks, "Can I get that in writing", and the agent says yes. Next day Progressive calls, saying the car is now salvaged, and she can't pick up her check unless she agrees. Progressive wins no matter what. If she takes the $2300, Progressive resells her undervalued car in whole or parts to some sucker for a profit. If she takes the $1300, her car is salvaged and worth $0. If she ever gets hit again, no insurance company will pay her for the damage on her salvaged vehicle. Now she has to get a Salvage title, registration, and inspection all out of pocket from her check that doesn't cover the damage to her car. Oh, and they get to make money raising insurance rates on the poor sucker who backed into her. End of the day, google "Progressive" with "Unethical" and take an afternoon to read on their business practices. They are a textbook example of what is wrong and corrupt with the insurance system that exploits consumers. To work for them and carry out their evil does make you a bad person, and if you are one of their customers, you're not only screwing yourself, but the person you'll eventually get in an accident with. read more

Apparently it's legal to tap someone's bumper and since you're "at fault" the people in the other car can call and claim bodily injury, pain and suffering etc and progressive will pay them out with no proof. I was told that they protected me and my best interest and I got lucky and it could have been worse even though they raised my premium $53 a month immediately and then again a few months at renewal to $211 a month on a car that's worth $5000 which is actually the loan amount and I can't get a decent quote from any other company ($265-$300 a month) The two girls claiming injury have a history of doing this as they were investigated by Progressive and TDI. How are they getting away with this?!!! I'm told, by Progressive, that making a false bodily injury claim is not fraud and perfectly legal and they will pay out those claims in the best interest of their client. I'm stupefied at this process and have opened a case with TDI and Kirk Watson's office to get more info on the legalities because this doesn't pass the smell test. In the mean time be careful not to hit anyone even if it's a minor scratch because anyone who's hard up for money will claim injjury and get paid out because the insurance company makes it super easy for frauds and you, the client, will pay dearly. read more
