First I will say that I could have had the work done well and properly by my dentist in Philadelphia for approximately the same monetary expenditure. However, I was in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas when an upper molar crown and adjacent tooth encountered a bit of shell in le mie deliziose linguine e vongole (linguine & clams). To repair the damage inflicted by Luz Marely Garcia Alvarez, I will need to spend many thousands of $$. Beside her rather crude technique and careless approach, I'm sure her work suffered even more while chatting with staff when she obviously should have been directing her attention to the task at hand. This dentist destroyed my bite in October, 2019. She arbitrarily ground the ill-fitted new crowns and a perfectly good existing crown in an attempt to adjust the occlusion- where she also only used a tiny piece of occlusion paper to test, while ignoring my overall bite! I had no idea how bad such a deviation in my bite could be until I experienced it. It is now March 27, 2020. The results of having misaligned my bite have evolved to the point where I can now, due to severe pain and diminished range of motion of the opposing mandible, only just open my mouth wide enough to eat. Chewing is extremely painful. The pain radiates into my ear and mastoid where I also experience persistent pain and tenderness. I thought it was an ear problem. I saw an ENT doctor who identified the bite deviation immediately. The cost of restoring my bite is another issue. But as an avid raw fruit and veggie eater, I have had no other choice but to adjust my diet until I can get permanent relief. I do not recommend Luz Marely Garcia Alvarez.

His eval indicated I needed #1 root canal, #1 extraction and #2 crowns for $4,600. This dentist spent less than one minute looking at both the x-rays and inside my mouth - no exaggeration. I went to Dr.Valdez and to make a long story short he fixed the broken crown, filed the chipped crown that was NOT broken (which was the one the US dentist wanted to pull) and now all is perfect. Including Dr Valdez's fees plus the travel costs to go to Mexico I spent less than $600. A $4,000 difference. Tell me that is not worth a trip to Mexico.

Well luckily I was working in South Texas this past week and no way I was going to wait a month to fix my tooth. After getting a referral from a co-worker from a local dealership in Harligen area, I called over and made an appointment. I sent over my x-rays from my local Austin dentist office. Upon arriving on Friday 9/25 at 3pm, I was greeted by an extremely professional dental staff and very clean dental office. The Dentist did x-rays, consulted me on the condition of my tooth and the growing infection below my tooth. After discussing my options, not only did they extract my tooth, cleaned my infection area, put in a bone graft and also put in two implants on the other side of my mouth all within 3.5 hours. Oh and the price was less than the cost of one implant (with insurance) in Austin, TX without insurance. Also the pharmacy next door had all the necessary prescriptions for less than $30. I will be back to install my crowns and put in one more implant when my jaw heals. Parked my car on the US side for $2, paid the $1.25 bridge fee to walk across and back, less than .5 miles from border, was at my vehicle by 7pm.
