He has training twice a week and has shown improvements in his attitude and has learned about the tenants: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. He loves board breaking and nunchuck training days and has made many friends in this program. I didn't give Elite 5 stars since I cannot speak to the more serious training areas of the program such as sparring and competitions. I do know my son enjoys the training he is participating in and gets excited to test for his stripes and hopefully one day a higher belt. He does not participate in the after school program or camps on no-school days, but it is good to know it is available, if needed.

On our wedding day, I was the most confident I have been with my body in as long as I can remember. Mike's workouts are great. He really listens to your goals and develops customized plans to help you get there. For me it was all about the arms for the wedding dress and I was very happy with how my arms looked on the big day. Prior to Mike, I had been bottoming out on too much cardio and not enough strength training. I was working out 4-7 times a week and wasn't getting the results I felt I deserved based on the amount of time I was putting in. Mike changed that and I finally got the definition I had been looking for. We started having Mike cook for us in May when we got really busy with wedding tasks & were traveling every two weeks. Mike's meals were delicious and I'm so glad that I got to learn from his healthy cooking example. He is a registered dietician in addition to his personal training license, it doesn't get much better than that people! Additionally, we love Mike because he is a real person! We have met trainers at big gyms that don't understand a life outside of the gym. Mike gets it. He knows you aren't going to eat perfect on vacation and gives you tips on how not to overindulge or healthy alternatives. He helps you work through these challenges as opposed to making you feel like a failure when you make bad choices. Last thing about Mike. He is just a really good guy. He is about as honest and genuine as they come. He puts his whole heart into it and he truly cares about his clients. We would highly recommend him to anyone who is in search of a personal trainer!

People there are friendly and welcoming but still serious about getting better, they take their training seriously but it's a relaxed vibe. The instructors are wonderful, very professional yet personable. High level techniques being shared here. With soo much experience on the mats you have lots of different Jiu-Jitsu styles to choose from. The amenities are exceptional. Nice clean bathrooms, changing rooms and showers. The front desk people are always smiling and helpful when you come in the door. While I haven't gotten to train the striking classes as I primarily train Jiu-Jitsu , they look like a lot of fun and they are training very hard with solid technique. They have lots of quality mat spaces for grappling and striking as well as workout equipment. There are many classes for people to choose from. Giving the most flexibility I have ever seen at a gym. Add in the elevation and the location of a beautiful mountain city, this is one of the best places to train in the country. I highly recommend the gym.

The idea wasn't to teach them to be great at fighting, but instead to learn how to avoid these situations and also have the confidence that they can be out in the world safely and happily. I guess I'm sounding like Mr. Miyagi here (Daniel-son, no one ever wins a fight, ...), but I wasn't interested in finding a place that just taught you how to beat someone up. Instead I was looking for a place that focused as much or more on the internal and spiritual traditional aspects of martial arts. I have been so happy that we found just this sort of place at IMA. My eldest daughter especially revers Hanshi and Sensei Madani. And since she has been doing Karate at IMA (about 1 1/2 years), she feels she has become much more confident, stronger, and also more disciplined in all sorts of aspects of her life. Her goal is now to become a black belt, and she says she will keep at it until she accomplishes it. It is really something to see this transformation in her -- she tends to read and live in a world of books. But she tells me often how much she loves Karate and how important it is in her life. I've found Sensei Madani to be a very bright, funny woman who really seems to care about her students. She is tough, but fair, and does demand a lot from her students -- which my oldest daughter has really responded to (she doesn't want to disappoint Sensei). And I've also been impressed with the community at IMA. I was surprised how many folks turn out for their functions, and people seem to really feel part of a strong community with the other IMA members and families.
