I was first told to move up to the next class and stay "first" on the waitlist, I had to continue to be enrolled. So I stupidly paid for several months of tuition and did not attend as my daughter was too old for the parent/tot class. It took from September to March to be told a spot opened up and I would only be able to use 1 month of the many payments towards the new class. As a result of telling them that I am frustrated and disappointed as a customer, I was told we can no longer come back. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. They lie about their waitlists and tell different customers different excuses. I got in to class many weeks before my friends did who were on the waitlist way before me. I am sick to my stomach that I express my concerns about having paid so much money and am told not come back. Don't waste your time trying to communicate with them and expect a response.

When looking into this place, I had questions about pricing, the best class to choose for my son, and how long sessions last (a calendar month, a particular number of weeks, etc.). I called multiple times and could never reach anyone. I took a chance and signed up online anyway. I emailed two times, asking how long the sessions are, and never received a response. We went to one class, and while my son enjoyed it, he decided he didn't want to continue with it. Again, I emailed and called multiple times to ask what the cancellation policy was, and nobody ever answered the phone or replied to my emails. I finally got a call from the owner, who told me that I paid for the full month ($89) and would get no refund - even though we only went once. Not the best policy or response, in my opinion. That being said, the place is small and cute and the teacher (Jade) was great. Just don't sign up if you ever expect any answers or information via email or phone. And make sure you're prepared to pay $90 for a full month, even if you're not sure your kid will like it.

I wanted my daughters to try Karate a few years ago. I was hoping to find a place that would focus…read moreon the discipline and ethos of Karate -- a place that would help with their confidence, ability to concentrate, and hopefully help them develop the skills and presence of mind to avoid or defuse any sort of bad situation they might run into later in life. The idea wasn't to teach them to be great at fighting, but instead to learn how to avoid these situations and also have the confidence that they can be out in the world safely and happily. I guess I'm sounding like Mr. Miyagi here (Daniel-son, no one ever wins a fight, ...), but I wasn't interested in finding a place that just taught you how to beat someone up. Instead I was looking for a place that focused as much or more on the internal and spiritual traditional aspects of martial arts. I have been so happy that we found just this sort of place at IMA. My eldest daughter especially revers Hanshi and Sensei Madani. And since she has been doing Karate at IMA (about 1 1/2 years), she feels she has become much more confident, stronger, and also more disciplined in all sorts of aspects of her life. Her goal is now to become a black belt, and she says she will keep at it until she accomplishes it. It is really something to see this transformation in her -- she tends to read and live in a world of books. But she tells me often how much she loves Karate and how important it is in her life. I've found Sensei Madani to be a very bright, funny woman who really seems to care about her students. She is tough, but fair, and does demand a lot from her students -- which my oldest daughter has really responded to (she doesn't want to disappoint Sensei). And I've also been impressed with the community at IMA. I was surprised how many folks turn out for their functions, and people seem to really feel part of a strong community with the other IMA members and families.
