A decade later, after not doing anything in the martial arts, while in college I had to defend myself twice. The same type of technique worked and I ended both attacks without having to throw a single punch. I benefit from exercising in a social class environment. In my 30's I tried to find a martial arts school that I could enjoy going to. Many of the schools I briefly tried were either too strict or intense. I feel lucky to have found this school. I'm now in my 50's and they are mindful of who I am and what I can do. The classes have young to old and everybody fits in, has a good work out and an enjoyable time. Most classes, I find myself being taught high ranking members that have been coming to the school for decades. Very respectful of all members and understanding that our western culture is different from Japan.

While his first several classes were really rough the staff didn't give up on him. They met with me to learn how his brain works and the best ways to support him in class. They staffed together to brainstorm strategies, talk about what was working and what needed to be changed. They even brought in an extra staff member to support my son when class sizes were bigger and he needed more one on one support. Mr. Miller, the owner, Mr. Sam, Mr. Walker, Mr. Sandoval, all the trainees and other kids and families have been so supportive and welcoming to my son and our family. My son LOVES coming to class. He loves learning. He understands what is expected of him and his level of focus is something I wish we could get out of him in other areas of his life. All I had to do at that point was to give the school a call, and see if they are even open (due to COVID), and if they are, how they are operating and what not. Easy, right? Wrong. I tried the contact number that was listed on the internet first. No answer. I believe their website had the same number, so no luck there either. After about an hour of search, I was able to find a number, I guess on their facebook page. It went straight to voice mail (I think it was a google voice number), and the greeting gave another number and suggested that I "text" that number.
