I spent years working for my father in law, a sole proprietor plumber. He's retired and I'm not available to clear a clogged kitchen drain for my 90s year old parents in TR. I had a minor problem with a slow drain in the tub. Thirty years of hair and conditioner took its toll. I saw all the good reviews plus I used Proficient years ago to good end before I was Yelping. I called them and they got back to me the same day. They stopped by the next day to give me an estimate and in two days they had the problem resolved. It took two plumbers about 1.5 hours to do it. Had to have all units gas supply lines replaced in crawl space of condominium building where I own a unit. Plumber advised that the gas shut valves for the gas appliances in my unit were not up to standard and stated they must be replaced at a cost of between two and three hundred each. I went to the worksite to speak with the plumber and asked for the ordinance that the plumber was referring to in order to state that the gas valves on my gas appliances were not up to standard. No gas appliances were being changed or touched that would require shutting of the existing gas valves in my unit. When I requested the ordinance the onsite plumber called the owner and the story suddenly changed to "we recommend that the existing gas valves be replaced". I told the onsite plumber that if no ordinance can be produced that would require the replacement of my gas valves do not do anything in my unit. Subsequently, the plumber billed my unit 125.00 for tightening packing nuts on 3 of the existing gas valves because he stated they were leaking. They were not leaking. How do I know this? Prior to the job in crawl space commencing I had the occasion to replace the washer and gas dryer in my unit. When I was finished I used my electronic gas detector to check the valve and its connections to the dryer, no leaks. I then proceeded to check the other gas valves and their connections to my gas appliances, also no leaks. To tighten a packing nut takes on the existing gas valves would take less than a minute each. Pretty hefty charge (125.00) for tightening packing nuts when the existing valves were fully functional and did not leak. In closing you cannot believe what this company tells you as truth. Would never use this company. read more

Technician was very polite and listened to our concerns, but did not really have a solution to our problem. No charge for coming to our home since they did not fix anything. Our problem is low water pressure throughout the house but mostly in the kitchen. We had a slow leaking kitchen faucet and it became a steady drip. I called Proficient plumbing around 11am yesterday and I had a plumber at my door by 3pm. I tried to turn off the water using the valves under the kitchen sink, but they were 25+ years old, so we got those replaced first. They brought in all the tools and a battery charged wet vacuum. Reasonable price. Tomorrow we'll get the faucet replaced, after we buy a generic faucet at like Lowes tonight. read more

Kyle and James, in record time and for a very reasonable price, replaced a valve for the ice maker, replaced the shut off valve for the toilet, and replaced the garden hose faucet for me. This may sound like 3 little things but they've been on my list of "things that should get my attention before it's a HUGE problem". The price came in lower than the estimate which was not bad in the first place. PP sent his technicians to replace/install undermount kitchen sink; also replaced portion of cast iron pipe that was old/coroded causing backup from bathroom into kitchen sink. Discussed pitch of drainage btwn. bathroom & kitchen; was told the old cast iron pipe was causing backup from bathroom into kitchen sink. Never corrected pitch of pipes so all water flow was evenly draining out. While water did drain, when recently replacing bathroom vanity, the new contractor handling vanity hookup advised pitch of pipes btwn bathroom/kitchen was all wrong & sink drain installation by PP was crooked which we did notice. As such, had to spend over $400 additional to fix & re-do the kitchen drainage done by PP & correct the pipe pitch. It's now obvious that PP failed in this regard and we had to pay the price to fix it. Unfortunately, can't recommend & even complained about travel distance to our job! read more

I have used this company 2 times for myself and both times my initial call was returned promptly, was put on schedule promptly and given the most reasonable cost each time. Proficient showed up each time as scheduled with a phone call to say they were on the way. The work performed was impressive and had no problems afterwards. You can't get better than this and Proficient is now my go to plumber. (Other plumbers didn't even return my call or gave me an outrageous price I guess as a way to say they didn't want the job!) This is the first review I've ever left for someone that I haven't even worked with !!! Here's why.... I had just had my kitchen redone and ran the dishwasher. When I opened it there was standing water in the bottom that wouldn't drain. After trying my contractor several times over several days with no answer and having a houseful of people coming this weekend I started to panic and used yelp to find a professional to come out. Proficient called ASAP as he was IN THE DOCTORS OFFICE and asked if he could call me back. He called back as soon as he was finished! Not wanting to waste my money he asked if I had a disposal and suggested it may be due to the contractor neglecting to pop out the hole for the drain. He was willing to come out and tried to work me into his schedule. My contractor (who unbeknownst to me was in the hospital :( ) ended up calling today... the Day proficient was to come ... and he sent someone out to check. When I told them what proficient told me... they checked it and .... bingo... the hole was never popped out. I contacted Proficient and they were relieved that the problem had been solved.
