I also showed him an ugly massively overgrown plant and a large overgrown shrub on the south side of my house, along my property line, that I wanted removed. After I received his estimates, a date was set for the work. His crew was due to arrive at my home between 3-4 p.m. and arrived at 4:30 on a Friday. After the tree trimming, one of the men came to my front door and showed me a paper that Chad Fox had given to him. There was a color photo taken from the NORTHEAST corner of my lot. The photo showed part of my garage, part of the sidewalk leading to my front door, and the lawn in front of my house. Above the photo was typed: "All shrubs" and the description: "Ground clean up". There are NO "shrubs", nothing but lawn, in front of my house to "clean up"!!! The worker was confused. I showed him the overgrown plant and shrub on the SOUTH side of my house, along my property line, that I had shown to Chad. It was almost 5:00 and the crew quickly took care of the plant and shrub. So quickly that they left twigs and leaves on my neighbor's lawn!!! I watched through a window and saw the mess. When the worker came to get my check, I told him that the mess had to be cleaned up before they left. He told me they would take care of it. Five minutes later, the entire crew and both trucks were gone, but the mess on my neighbor's lawn was still there!!! I immediately called the office, but it was after 5:00 so I left a voice recording about the neglected cleanup. I received a call from Chad Fox's office Monday morning to tell me that "they would be over sometime today" to take care of the mess they had left behind on the neighbor's lawn. It's been five days and NO ONE has yet shown up!!! I am posting this because I am a single senior citizen woman who is still healing from heart surgery done less than a year ago AND because I paid Chad Fox the SAME amount of money for a 10-minute job done by 2 men that I paid for 4 men to trim my tree AND because Chad Fox failed to give his crew the correct information for their work at my house AND because Chad Fox's crew chief lied to me about the crew cleaning up the mess AND because Chad Fox's office failed to send a crew, as they promised, to clean up their mess! If Chad Fox didn't want the job of removing the plant and shrub, he should have said so when he was at my house!!! Chad Fox owns this company and only Chad Fox is fully responsible for the quality, good or bad, of his employees' work!

My experience has ranged from a single guy with ropes and a chainsaw, to a dozen men with heavy equipment deployed by a general-like figure barking orders and managing the job. The one redeeming part of my experience with The Lumberjacks was that they were able to get my large dead tree removed relatively quickly in the midst of a global pandemic. Originally it was going to take several weeks for them to arrive. But when I asked if there was any way to expedite the process, I was told "yes" if I was willing to pay a rush charge of $50. On a job that was going to cost over a grand, that was the bargain of the decade. The Lumberjacks brought a three person crew along with a lift that looked a little bit like a tank. We walked around the property to talk about other work I wanted done beyond the tree removal, and was quoted a price on the spot. I agreed, and the crew spent the rest of the day cutting wood. After they were done, I asked to be walked around to inspect the work. What I didn't see at the time was the damage that was caused to my property. I spoke to someone at my insurance company. They told me to call the tree trimmers. After calling The Lumberjacks to discuss the matter, I was unceremoniously directed to some fine print on the bottom of the estimate that said the company was not responsible for damages, or some such. Well, that just sucks. Now, by solving the problem of the dead tree, I have another problem to solve. And we're still in the midst of a global pandemic, which just makes everything harder. This was not the kind of experience that would encourage me to call The Lumberjacks again if I need additional tree work, nor would it give me the confidence to recommend them to others. I'm sure they work on lots of houses without doing damage. I'm sure mine was a rare fluke. And ultimately, it's less about the damage itself than it was about how this unfortunate situation was handled.

THE SHORT: Unethical business practices and too many better options in the market. Fellow…read morecontractors and homeowners should steer clear. Lester brothers is a better source of top soil, mulch and gravel. Sandy's Landscape is a better alternative for landscape supplies and installations. But I'd certainly never do business with Wilcox again. THE LONG: We ordered 10 yards of 411 limestone and 2 yards of #10 limestone. We received 2.5 yards of #10 and 6.5 yards of 411. We honestly assumed they were gonna do two truckloads and called to see when they would be out to deliver the second load. The receptionist laughed at me and transferred me to the owner. The owner proceeded to tell me I was an idiot and probably over excavated our area by 3.5" average. We formed and transit leveled an average of 4.5". We were shooting for 4" and were anywhere from 3.5-5.5" at the deepest. Let's call it an average of 4.5" (to be generous to them). The forms were 32' long and 13 feet wide. That comes out to 5.7 yards (being generous). Plus we poured some at the entrance of the patio (let's call it a yard to be generous). 6-7 yards. Whats weird is that we got the right amount of #10. Im guessing they could bring in a few hundred thousand dollars a year doing this and honestly, who is forming up their gravel/mulch? This was a unique situation where we wanted a perfectly sloped base so we screeded the gravel like concrete. To fix it we had to order a second load of 10 yards and pay for it. This time I measured the truck. If the truck was full to the brim it would be 10 yards. I'll let you be the judge of whether or not you think that truck in the photo is full. (We got less than 8 yards the second trip-once we got the rest in the forms) We would have ended up short on our own estimate and ended up needing 12 yards total and were prepared to go get a couple yards to fill in around the patio. But got less than half done because we were short so much. We ended up getting less than 15 yards total. we have 2-3 left over and 12 under the patio. Yes, including the compaction rate which is about a half an inch at this depth. The owner and driver were incredible rude throughout the whole process. We invited them out to double check our math. The owner Jeff said he would come out twice to check and remedy and never showed either day. We also invited them to let the driver check out the forms and take measurements while he was out delivering the second load. He never left the truck. We were more than willing to have our math corrected and let them double check the measurements. They were uninterested in resolving it and at the end offered us $100 refund which we refused because it doesn't seem right. We got less than 15 yards and paid for 20. I get why they would do it. I just don't want to have any part of it. I'll let you be the judge. After this was all done I thought back to the last time I used them for mulch delivery. I alway bought bagged mulch and always had extra. I ordered the same from them and came up short. I assumed it was my math. Now I question that. This is how they do business. To give them the benefit of the doubt, Im not sure they even know they are swindling people. They just seem to be uninterested in verifying or correcting it. I say "trimmed" bcuz the "leads"--as they're properly called in Forestry (I did not know this)--were as large as MOST TREES. The guys worked their butts off: Started around 8:30-9 on a Saturday am and ended up finishing around 7p on Sunday night. Now here's the kicker: When they were done with all the cutting/loading of wood/brush--and I mean they took EV. RY. SINGLE STICK--the owner went around with a leaf blower and basically cleaned my entire yard. We had an old pile of decrepit wood that they took as well. And oh, btw: they ground every stump, INCLUDING A BONUS ONE FR A TREE THAT I'D CUT DOWN PREVIOUSLY. I'm sure with the state of the world, their prices have climbed commensurate with inflation, but at the time, they did allllll the work I'd mentioned for $4500. I was thoroughly impressed & astounded. I BELIEVE "the son" has taken over the business now, but my lord, was I ever impressed with this company.

But the very expensive tree the owner sold us struggled from the beginning and died within weeks. Other plants in the same bed thrived, so we were caring for them properly (following his instructions to the letter). When we contacted Elite, the owner informed us there was no warranty. Shame on us for not checking that out earlier, but shame on him for being terse and rude when we politely asked about the tree and what we could do. The guy that seemed so nice when selling the work was gone. This change in attitude was honestly just as disappointing as the dead tree. Next time we will look for a firm that offers a warranty. It may be worth a few dollars more to have that guarantee and peace of mind.

I attempted multiple times to handle a serious issue privately and professionally involving equipment stolen and seen using it on FB post etc. When I arrived with law enforcement to try and verify the equipment, the business owner refused to cooperate or allow the officer to view it, despite the situation potentially being resolved very quickly through simple transparency. As someone who depends on this equipment for work, the lack of concern and accountability was extremely disappointing. What was even more concerning to me was the company's continued support of an employee "with multiple and recent DV and theft charges" despite repeated issues and complaints surrounding his conduct. Instead of helping resolve the matter professionally, I was met with denial and resistance. I have documented conversations, screenshots, photos, and other evidence connected to this situation and will continue pursuing the proper channels. I believe businesses should operate with honesty, professionalism, and accountability, and unfortunately that was not my experience here.
