Disappointing experience with Burman's for a couple reasons. We had trees removed and trimmed and…read morestumps ground. During the tree removal we asked the crew to also remove poison ivy, which they said they would. There was still some left and it has taken weeks of following up to understand why. I still don't have an answer after many follow-ups. On the day of stump grinding, we waited around all Saturday and they never showed up. I called and emailed to ask about timing, but no response. The grinder was called away unexpectedly, which happens, but we were never contacted and I had to proactively ask why this was and when they would be coming. No apologies given as they said they don't monitor the phone over the weekend (despite the website saying 24/7 responses). Finally, they trimmed a red oak and didn't mention anything about fatal oak wilt fungus. Apparently if you trim between April and July you should always seal the wound immediately, which other arborists have since told me. This was never mentioned to us and our tree was not sealed so is now at risk for this disease.

This guys were absolutely amazing. They cut down A HUUUGE tree...can't recall if it was an oak…read moreor maple--work was done in Oct. of 2018--then another full tree, and "trimmed" two others. I say "trimmed" bcuz the "leads"--as they're properly called in Forestry (I did not know this)--were as large as MOST TREES. The guys worked their butts off: Started around 8:30-9 on a Saturday am and ended up finishing around 7p on Sunday night. Now here's the kicker: When they were done with all the cutting/loading of wood/brush--and I mean they took EV. RY. SINGLE STICK--the owner went around with a leaf blower and basically cleaned my entire yard. We had an old pile of decrepit wood that they took as well. And oh, btw: they ground every stump, INCLUDING A BONUS ONE FR A TREE THAT I'D CUT DOWN PREVIOUSLY. I'm sure with the state of the world, their prices have climbed commensurate with inflation, but at the time, they did allllll the work I'd mentioned for $4500. I was thoroughly impressed & astounded. I BELIEVE "the son" has taken over the business now, but my lord, was I ever impressed with this company.

I just purchased a home in Brooklyn and I needed to have a couple trees removed. I called a few tree removal services. Three of them were disconnected phone numbers and three responded relatively quickly. Ryan was the first and he gave me a what I thought was a good price that I agreed to. He said he'd do it for less if I paid cash (first red flag) while I appreciated it, I asked if I paid full price if he could get it done quickly to which Ryan agreed. We agreed on the following Friday which was only a few days later. Friday came and I hadn't heard from Ryan by 1230 (as promised) so I called him and he said he text me twice and left me a voicemail, but hadn't heard from me. I'm not sure what he was allegedly waiting for since we previously agreed he was coming Friday for sure. (second red flag) The problem that came up as his story evolved was that my voicemail has been full for several years. I don't use it, and I had been texting other people all morning so i know the old story that I didn't get the voicemail or text messages he sent simply isn't true. I checked my phone history while I was on speaker phone with him. None of my texts were from him. (red flag number 3) When I asked him if they were still coming he said they "already knocked off for the day" (at 1230 on a Friday) and they could come next week, I have no idea why he would say he tried to reach me three times when he and I were the only people in the conversation. He had to know I knew he wasnt telling the truth. Last important point is that he said he'd email me a copy of the our quote and proof of his insurance and I never received that either. (Fourth red flag). Yes I checked my spam and trash email boxes. It never came. So Ryan was unable to reach me via phone, text (twice) and email?!? The summary is that Ryan was quick to give me a quote, quick to make promises about the work but slow to show up and perform. It was extremely hot that day so if that was the real reason-just say that. He never mentioned that. Instead he chose to make up a story that I KNEW wasn't true. It was insulting besides being inconvenient. I took the day off of work to be available and look where it got me.

He left us with a large pile of wood, several large limbs and a 30-foot "stump." After a few weeks, with several different plans on when and how he would complete the elm removal and clean up, Ryan ultimately stopped responding to our messages. We made the great mistake of paying Ryan before the job was complete. Don't make our mistake.
