It gave me some relief for a couple of years. In the past 2 months I have taken Platelet-Rich Plasma shots; 2 in each knee. The results are unbelievable. I can literally jog after these treatments. I also have a torn rotator cuff and slap tears of my shoulder. Unfortunately, I have not had any success with the PRP shots for my shoulder, and will be going for surgery. I strongly recommend that if anyone experiences joint problems and wants to avoid surgery, they should consider visiting this practice. I did a lot of homework before I agreed to these shot. They have worked for Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, and Peyton Manning -all world class athletes. The shots are not covered by insurance but the relief I got to my knees are well worth the investment. Between the compound/open fracture and the other broken bones, my morning started off tragically wrong. Thankfully, Dr. Tam is more skilled than all the king's horses and all the king's men because he was able to put me back together again! Dr. Tam impressed me with his straight-forward "this is what I would do if it were me" approach. I like options, but he isn't afraid to tell you what the best option is. Before surgery, he put his hand on my shoulder and let told me, "You'll be alright." He assured me he would do his best. His tone and the warmth of a human touch comforted me. Dr. Taverni has obvious social/emotional issues that I'm convinced are directed only towards certain types of people. I believe the front desk employee's name is Liz. During every visit, she has come across as dismissive, impatient, and unprofessional. She spoke to us with an attitude that made us feel like we were an inconvenience, and I witnessed her treating other patients in a similarly disrespectful manner. The front desk is the first impression of any medical office, and her behavior reflects very poorly on the practice. Patients who are already dealing with illness or pain deserve compassion and respect, not rudeness. Management should seriously address the customer service at the front desk before more patients choose to leave. I will not be returning to this office, and I will be recommending that friends and family seek care elsewhere.

I was seen by Dr Brian Capogna at Orthopedic Associates in 2025 for a complex medial meniscus tear…read more Given I am a mom of young children, under 40 years old, and have had no previous knee problems, a partial arthroscopic meniscectomy was recommended. Despite following every instruction, within months post-op I began to feel pain. I went back to him to ask for another MRI 5 months post-op to see if there was a reason for my discomfort. He very quickly brushed off my concerns and said that I am simply older and should accept I will have aches and pains. I did not like his demeanor or his quick response to my concerns. I decided to get a second opinion at a different practice who, after another MRI, determined there was not only another tear but that it appeared now even deeper into the meniscus. I've now had 2 meniscus surgeries from 2 different surgeons within 8 months. It was determined by the most recent surgeon that Dr Capogna left a flap of the meniscus exposed, which, no matter how much rest and PT, the meniscus could not "unfurl" or ease itself. Another surgery would need to be done. I understand we live in a highly litigious area and he could potentially see my request as me blaming him for a botched job. I was not asking for an MRI to put Dr Capogna at fault. I simply wanted an explanation for my situation. In fact, had he listened to me and agreed to help me get to the bottom of this and order an MRI, I might have even scheduled him again as the surgeon. I understand there are many factors involved when agreeing to surgery and complications are possible. What I do not understand, however, is a doctor who can dismiss their patient's pain so nonchalantly.

X-rays showed that two of the three pins were no longer flush with the incision but were sticking up. I have to wonder if Toledano actually saw that on my last visit for an x-ray and didn't say anything, since I had already started to have some problems in the hip and legs. Now I know why I have pain and numbness. Those pins are digging into soft tissue and nerves. The severity grows and wanes depending on what position I am in. I cannot sleep at all because lying down makes everything a lot more severe. I finally managed to get his office to send me the x-rays and went to someone else who an acquaintance recommended. This second surgeon insists nothing can be done, didn't even want to see the x-rays I had with me, and suggested physical therapy. Well, that sure won't help. Even I know that. Toledano obviously did a horrible job with the placement of those pins and the rest of the hardware and totally destroyed my quality of life. I can no longer drive because of numbing in my feet. I cannot walk my dog. I worry about walking in general since I do not have any confidence in being sure-footed. I have to hope other nerves do not become affected which could lead to other organs, including the heart. He is adept at ignoring me, and obviously has no desire to address this. I now have to keep looking for someone with an answer while I still can. Stay away from this man, and actually stay away from North Shore Hospital. They are the pits. I can only say that medicine is no longer what it once was, and the big business it has become has put ability and caring in a back seat.
