No one answered the first call. Someone picked up the 2nd call, which we provided our insurance information, described the situation and asked for a same day "emergency visit", the lady put us on hold and see if there are any doctor available for us. Then the phone was disconnected while we were holding. Waited for like 5 minutes, but nobody called us back at all. We called again and a different person picked up the phone, I told him that insurance information has been provided, but he said he could not locate my son's account in the system. We were back to step 1 to provide insurance information again. The phone got disconnected again while I was giving him our insurance information. I immediately called back and another person picked up. After going through all the troubles, we were finally able to get an appointment for 3 days later. We went to see the doctor this morning, the front desk staff were busy chatting with each other while two other patients were waiting on the line. The PA and Dr. (Dr. Wei Shen) were very friendly and professional, Dr. Shen thoroughly checked my son's ankle and reviewed the x-ray image, gave me assurance that he seemed fine and provided me action plans on at-home remedy exercise and estimated time of recovery. I have no issue with the Dr. at the office, but the patient service is not what I expected from a large healthcare network provider.

Have you ever had one of those Humpy-Dumpty days where things fall apart, including your bones?…read more Well, I had one. Between the compound/open fracture and the other broken bones, my morning started off tragically wrong. Thankfully, Dr. Tam is more skilled than all the king's horses and all the king's men because he was able to put me back together again! Dr. Tam impressed me with his straight-forward "this is what I would do if it were me" approach. I like options, but he isn't afraid to tell you what the best option is. Before surgery, he put his hand on my shoulder and let told me, "You'll be alright." He assured me he would do his best. His tone and the warmth of a human touch comforted me. I was very impressed by his skill. This isn't his first rodeo and he is very familiar with the ins and outs of surgery. I'm pretty sure he gave me a Borg implant, take a look at the picture and tell me what you think! I hope I don't start saying, "Resistance is futile!" Nothing but praise for Dr. Tam and I highly recommend him. If you need his services then you're in a bad situation. Trust him and he will get you to recovery as fast as possible.

X-rays showed that two of the three pins were no longer flush with the incision but were sticking up. I have to wonder if Toledano actually saw that on my last visit for an x-ray and didn't say anything, since I had already started to have some problems in the hip and legs. Now I know why I have pain and numbness. Those pins are digging into soft tissue and nerves. The severity grows and wanes depending on what position I am in. I cannot sleep at all because lying down makes everything a lot more severe. I finally managed to get his office to send me the x-rays and went to someone else who an acquaintance recommended. This second surgeon insists nothing can be done, didn't even want to see the x-rays I had with me, and suggested physical therapy. Well, that sure won't help. Even I know that. Toledano obviously did a horrible job with the placement of those pins and the rest of the hardware and totally destroyed my quality of life. I can no longer drive because of numbing in my feet. I cannot walk my dog. I worry about walking in general since I do not have any confidence in being sure-footed. I have to hope other nerves do not become affected which could lead to other organs, including the heart. He is adept at ignoring me, and obviously has no desire to address this. I now have to keep looking for someone with an answer while I still can. Stay away from this man, and actually stay away from North Shore Hospital. They are the pits. I can only say that medicine is no longer what it once was, and the big business it has become has put ability and caring in a back seat.
