There were issues with a piece of equipment he rented-not his fault, that prolonged the project by many weeks. At the end, he gave us a new quote of 30,000. He stated this was for hours worked and many more days than originally needed. Unfortunately we didn't pay attention to days he was there, hours nor crew. There were days he didn't come, his crew would be there for an hour or so and we didn't keep track. Not once did he mention how much more it would be. He made a statement that he'd have to rent the equipment longer and that would increase the price, but that was all. We used our entire savings, and had to pull out 10,000 from our 401K to pay him. We now have a dirt lot we can't do anything with due to no funds. The work itself isn't bad. The job was well done. But I'd keep track of exact hours, crews and make everything written down in the contract. This destroyed us financially.

Along the way he was very good at communicating with me and arrived on time, each time. The job was a tough job. I needed a hillside slope cut back for a new retaining wall. I also needed an old retaining wall cut down. It proved more difficult than either I or John anticipated. The land in Mira Mesa is rock solid and difficult to excavate and the access to my hillside was limited, but John persevered and got the job done. He is a man of his word. His crew is also friendly and mindful of minimizing their footprint on my property. At the end of the day I would 100 % recommend this company. For many years I never thought I would get the backyard I wanted and now it's going to happen because of his help. Thank you sir.

We talked to several different professionals regarding how to fix a drainage issue we had. John…read morewas the first to suggest grading the area to direct the rainwater away from our retaining wall. He did a superior job flattening the top of the back yard slope which provided about 2,250 square feet usable outdoor space we didn't have before. We then decided to have him compete the area by having DG put down. He also brought in rocks from the local quarry to do a border around our slope landscaping. This was a cheaper solution than the local rock company and I liked it better. We kept going and he put in stone steps and removed a front 40' stucco planter for us (preparation for next year's project). He next designed and graded and a 70' dry creek bed, finishing it with rocks and mulch. He gave reasonable prices, good response and is a very hard worker. We plan on doing our half acre front yard next year with his help.
