Monroe Personnel Service & Temptime is a great recruiting service that I highly recommend…read more I myself was having a very difficult time finding employment in the SF Bay Area. I then came across a posting for an Office Manager position that was being offered by Monroe on Craigslist. I received a response via email the next day to come into Monroe. Monroe as a recruiting agency listens to what careers or jobs you are interested in. It is also great that they test your Microsoft Word, Excel and typing skills. Based on those exams, I learned that I needed to improve my Excel skills. Allison was the recruiter that worked alongside Debra when I first interviewed with Monroe. Allison asked me about my background and what where my goals in life. She was very courteous and it showed that she wanted me to succeed. My first assignment was working at a Bay Area Super Bowl committee event in Oakland. I then was given temporary employment at HomeJoy, a start-up company in SF. I liked working for HomeJoy because I've always wanted to work for a start-up and met a lot of great people. Monroe gave me this opportunity and I am forever grateful for their recruiting services.

I had the pleasure of being contacted by Karen Brunner after applying online for one of many jobs…read more She invited me to her office and we had a nice chat/ interview. What struck me most was how excited she was for me and how quickly she whipped my resume into shape. Just her input on my resume alone more than doubled my call backs for other positions I was applying to on my own. Having never worked with a temp agency/ recruiter before, I can say that I didn't really know what to expect. Well, expect this: a hard working, inspiring, and deeply knowledgable individual on your side at every moment of the job search! Karen touched base with me consistently and kept me in the game for a very competitive position that I've since accepted. It is without a doubt the first time I can say that I have a career as opposed to just a job that pays the bills. Another positive aspect of my experience was that I was able to receive feedback from potential employers through Karen after my interviews. What a luxury! I never knew what I was doing right or wrong in interviews, and it turned out to be the smallest details. She helped me improve through coaching and pep talks before each interview and boom! I got into the career field I'd been hoping to break into for some time and I couldn't be happier! So, thank you Karen! And to anyone looking for someone to help them up to that next rung in their career, this is definitely the place to start!!

I was mid-30s then, had many degrees and job experiences. But I felt my next job would be my last job. Like I was tired of interviewing and I was tired of working jobs I didn't like or didn't pay well. I wanted a job that checked all the boxes and I went out for two great jobs and landed one of them. Worked out for the best. I still think the current job is going to be the last job I'll have until I retire!

I worked with Michelle at Talent Avenue and it was an absolute pleasure. Most recruiters I worked…read morewith would not return my calls or emails and never found any jobs that fit my criteria. Michelle was on top of every opportunity she threw at me and she ended up getting me the salary I wanted. I worked with 5+ recruiting agencies in the bay area, and she was by far the best recruiter I have ever worked with (including in NYC too!) Thank you Michelle & Talent Avenue!!

Talent Avenue is not a good staffing agency. Let me tell you why:…read more Every staffing agency adds a markup to the hourly rate they pay out to you. Usually, it'll be around like 30%. So, say they pay you $50, then they bill the company you work for $65. That's a lot, but good staffing agencies offer a lot of added value in return for that: full benefits, 401k, responsive staff, regular check-in calls and coffee together. Talent Avenue adds almost a 100% markup on top of your hourly rate. So if they pay you $50, they are charging the company $95. What do they give you in return? Nothing. It's hard to even get them on the phone, let alone get any type of benefits like insurance and 401k. They frequently pay late. They don't keep their promises. Once Michelle lied to me about some details regarding a position. If you ask them for anything, they respond as if you're an asshole for even asking. Even calling them a staffing agency is a bit of a stretch. It's just two inattentive, rude, narcissistic people working out of a tiny office, with one more person working in accounting. Do not work with these people. They have no job postings that you can't get from a different agency. All bay area tech companies work with multiple staffing agencies to fill the same role and it's a race between the agencies to see who fills it first. If Talent Ave gets you in the door, ask your hiring manager if you can get onboarded through a different agency. These guys are the absolute worst. Michelle is a straight up narcissist and so mentally ill that I'm afraid she'll try to retaliate towards me in response to this review. Good thing I've already taken countermeasures against that.

Thanks to Shirin I've actually gotten interviews for roles that make sense. She has taken care to ensure she presented roles that actually make sense culturally while also matching my skillset. What I've appreciated most is that she's been thoughtful, honest, and genuinely invested in finding the right fit rather than simply filling positions. Job searching can feel isolating and discouraging at times, and having someone who understands both the market and who you are as a professional makes an enormous difference.
