Fantastic place to get your hair and makeup done. Janel is seriously the best. I live in Tampa but my maternity photographer suggested we take the photos at Siesta Key Beach because it is prettiest for pictures. This may be the only time I take maternity photos (sorry second child) so I decided sure why not. Since originally we scheduled to take the photos two weeks later, I scrambled to find someone who had a hair and makeup studio. There were some people with fantastic reviews but they only did hair and makeup on site (which makes sense for a wedding or if you live nearby, but not in my case). I saw the five star rating for Janel and sent her an email. She is super quick when responding to emails. I had to reschedule my hair and makeup THREE TIMES, due to weather - often the day before my appointment, and she was super flexible and acted like this was no problem at all. I felt terrible because I know she was holding two hours for me each time, but she kept reassuring me that it was fine. Even my photographer remarked that my hair and makeup person must be extremely flexible since we kept rescheduling. When I first contacted her I was worried about how well she does Asian makeup. I had a disaster of a trial when finding a makeup artist for my wedding so I've been wary ever since. She had one picture of a girl of Asian decent getting ready for prom, but it mainly featured her hair. Janel offered to get a model and do her makeup just so she could send me a pic! I saw enough from the pic she sent to trust her so I told her it wasn't necessary, but I really appreciated the offer. I'm so glad I went with my gut because she did a fantastic job. I'll uploaded pics from my maternity shoot so you can see the hair and makeup. I absolutely loved it. Janel is also super nice and we were able to chat a bit during the session. I took cards to give to my photographer because I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone. Sure, the salon isn't super fancy or trendy, but who needs that when you have a great service? If you need your hair and makeup done in this area, contact Janel! read more

Janel did a great job on my hair. I moved to Florida in August 2024 and I have had a few less than ok experiences. Janel was able to get my cut in shape without cutting too much off and she fixed the "mess of color " that no one seemed to get right before. I'm super happy I came to the Jersey Girl; she's great! read more

This place ruined my hair! I went in for Keratin which I have been getting done for over 20 plus years. Amy who did my hair burnt my hair that I had to go pay another $200 to get it cut and a professional conditioning treatment. In addition, she never put product on my roots nor did she lock in the product. Its like I had nothing done. I paid $200 for literally nothing! My hair has never been this bad from a Keratin treatment ever! read more

Very nice lady, but completely ruined my hair!! I walked in with a beautiful balayage that had grown out-I just wanted to bring the roots up a little (while still remaining blended) and brighten the blonde. I leave the salon looking like rogue from X-Men!!!!! She over bleached my hair and corrected it by adding DARK BROWN to my to my roots. My hair looks so bad. The worst part... I paid $180 to have my hair completely destroyed. I have never cried over hair before, but yesterday I did. I only saved up enough money to have it done the first time and I don't have money to go to someone who knows what they are doing to have it fixed. The least she could've done was not charge me. read more

It's normal 2 be charged for a blow dry, but not when needed for the procedure. I've never had extensions redone & charged separately, 35..2 blow dry my hair by an unlicensed hairdresser. Not even a warning which explains why they complain of customers disputing the charges on credit card. She offered 2 sit me under a dryer for free but Didn't offer to reimburse me any when she rooted the wrong side of my extensions! I had to take them out & do it myself! Bought my own hair too the hair is cheap there. I found an great stylist since! read more

VERY Disappointed!!! Soooo upset with Professional Beauty Bar & Janel Took my daughter 4 a consultation w/Janel. She had long brown curly hair & provided a picture of the VERY Light, Modest, Pastel Pink hair color she wanted. She expressed 2 Janel that the 1 thing she definitely didn't want was a bright or fluorescent pink. We asked Janel if the color n the picture was possible. She said yes & that it could all b done n 1 session. She also informed us that it may loosen up her curls some & would b a good idea 2 trim it up & cut long layers. We also informed her that my daughter had a VERY important/exciting performance 2 attend the following weekend & that she wanted 2 look beautiful 4 it. (I was like Wow! That's Great & scheduled 4 a couple days later) The day of, once completed, the haircut looked adorable BUT, her hair color was DARK BRIGHT FLUORESCENT NEON Pink... I immediately discussed w/Janel my shock/disappointment in the dark color & many brassy tone sections. She assured us that it would fade off & that she would lighten the brassy parts again after the pink eventually came out. I paid her almost $400 with $50 tip (even though I felt uneasy not being totally satisfied) In the car, my daughter burst into tears crying hysterically over how upset she was w/the finished product I immediately went back in & quietly told her how upset my daughter was (I was being respectful as she now had someone else n her chair) She didn't seem 2 concerned w/how distraught my daughter was (my daughter had been soooooo excited 4 weeks despite my hesitation BUT after the consultation w/Janel, I felt a little more confident n letting my daughter get this drastic change done 2 her beautiful hair so her tears totally Broke my Heart) Janel handed me some sort of gray color 2 put n her hair once we got home & said it would help. Well, it turned sections of her hair purple After a couple days & many shampoos - No luck, I began texting/calling Janel (very politely & patiently) asking 4 help 2 adjust & fix the problem b4 the Convention. NEVER heard back!!! After advice from 2 cosmetologist, we tried blue shampoo - it turned sections green. Now she is purple, neon pink, green, & brassy Now we use clarifying shampoo 2 get the color presentable enough 4 the "National Beta Club Convention in Nashville TN" She was EXTREMELY Embarrassed & had 2 wear her hair up & hidden 4 the entire once n a lifetime experience. So now after spending well over $550, my daughters hair is yellow & brassy orange bc the lightening process wasn't done correctly 2 begin with & obvious lack of concern & no responses from Janel. All the while, I'm DESPERATELY calling/texting her trying 2 fix the problem. To this day, I still have NOT heard back from Janel. I don't understand & I am very hurt as 2 y she did NOT have the decency 2 get back w/us. I don't understand y someone would perform a service & not try 2 correct any issues that went wrong when they know the customer is Unhappy/Dissatisfied ‍ It's just common courtesy to respond when someone is reaching out for your help read more

THE GOOD NEWS: The owner, Janel, is a very talented colorist and overall hair dresser. She does wonderful blowouts. I "was" a long time customer of hers and supported her and her business completely over the past 3 years. She did a good job on my hair for my wedding and I have been going to her ever since for many ($$$$) services. Touch-ups, lowlights, highlights, blowouts, cuts and purchased many products from her salon. I spent between $140-$250 each visit. THE BAD NEWS: She is not very professional in the way she runs her business. She doesn't respect her clients time. If you make an appointment, DON'T EXPECT HER TO BE ON TIME MOST ALWAYS (usually wait up 30-45 minutes ) - unless you happen to get the very 1st appointment of the day. Even at that, she may cancel or forget. The "straw" - I had an appointment this week to fix a not-so-good coloring she had done) She knows I live a ways away as It takes me 40 minutes to drive to her salon (she's in an not so great neighborhood). I was 3/4 of the way there when she sent me a text and then called 25 mintues before the appointment to cancel. I had cancelled something else to make the appointment on time only for her to cancel. She then rescheduled the appointment for 3 days later. Again, I left another appointment early only to get to the salon and wait 45 minutes - and then get her brother's girlfriend instead of Janel to "start me". She uses amatuer, untrained, unlicensed young women (teen-age daughter, her brother's girlfriend) as helpers. The services they provide (shampooing, root touch-up, etc.) are not up to par but you still pay FULL PRICE and not "beauty school prices" to be their "practice hair". Her brother's girlfriend, JUST (as of a couple of weeks ago) started attending beauty school. OVERALL: It's unfortunate that Janel appears to value "walk-ins" and many times "one-time" appointments over dedicated and devoted clients. If you don't care about professionalism, by all means check out her salon. read more

I love my new hair so much. Stylist did exactly as I asked, and it looks amazing! This was the exact shade I wanted, with perfect highlights. She was friendly and professional too. Really made me feel at home. I will definitely be returning. read more

Janel is a very talented, bright and all around awesome hair stylist! She is a great listener who always does a great job with my color, hair cut or slight trims! I found her about 3 1/2 years ago while she was working and managing a downtown salon and was so upset when she told me she was leaving because NO ONE DOES A BLOW/DRY like JANEL!! After a bit of time I found her again and also decided to have her do my color. I am always amazed by her professionalism and knowledge of all things in the industry! I do not often, if ever, write reviews on yelp... however... Janel is: Truly the BEST in SARASOTA! Oh... did I mention accommodating? read more

I don't know who did my hair, it wasn't the owner, it was some young pregnant lady. She had no idea what she was doing, the owner coached her through my color and she did something very strange. My gut told me to walk out. I should have. She sprayed something in my hair and put me under the drier before she gave me an all over color. Then she pout me under a streamer. What??? I've never had any of that before. My hair is now ruined. Feels and looks awful. Not only is the color not at all what I asked for, my hair is permanently damaged. I've never had damage from asking for my natural color before. My normaly silky and soft hair feels rough and sticky. I'm devastated! Steer clear from this place!!! read more

Janel the owner of Professional Beauty Bar is the best! A hidden gem! She is very knowledgeable experienced and truly cares about your hair! She listens to your wants and needs and truly takes passion in her work. I will never go to a different salon after meeting Janel. A++++++ Highly Recommend read more

Would not recommend, color turned purple then white which did not wash away like I was told. Color didnt even penetrate my grays at all! $65 color treatment for no grey coverage and darker color than what I had started with. I was charged $13 for a few snips literally a tiny piece was all she cut and charged almost as much as I usually pay for a full hair cut. Salon is extremely dark and located at the back of this salon/store. I should have read groupon reviews before. Others shared a similar experience with their color experience. $230 with a color I did not like, no grey coverage, a 1 second snip, keratin was great the first three days until I washed my hair and got most of my frizz back. She got upset when I told her I didnt like the color and kept telling me to let her do her job and to trust her. I let her finish and the finished product was still upsetting only 6 days later and my hair faded to the dreadful red I hate. read more
