My car is amazing, can compete with any other in a kick down or out of the hole on Boston's rotaries, and has tech that predates high surveillance or 'stop-me-because-I'm-too-stupid-to-drive-myself' controls. I'm a stickler for manufacturer-recommended maintenance, and expect my vehicles to last in return. I regularly washed, vacuumed, and "Mom detailed" it myself, but it was always another physically-demanding task on my miles-long lists. Finally, after our life-embracing kids left the nest and most of our hairy drooling pets lived out their best lives, I decided to 'treat myself' and got my SUV detailed by Village Detail in Acton on 2A. Most women my ilk were getting full-day spa treatments and aesthetic services if not going on weekend retreats, but I just wanted a 14-cup food processor, my gutters de-mucked as well as I used to do it, and a clean car. The job Village Detail did back then was incredible -- so beyond what I ever could have done, actually *10* star. Today, my same now-17 year old car is having major work done (rear axel shafts, front sway bar bushings, and more) at a dealership not far away, and on a lark, I asked if they could detailed it inside and out before returning it to me tomorrow. They said yes. I assumed they'd be taking it to Village Detail, but just learned they now plan to perform the service 'in house.' I'm skeptical because I know dealership versions of 'detailing' are always just to make a car look pretty and clean enough to resell, whereas professional detailers like Village Detail understand the science and art of detailing because their mission is completely different -- to genuinely restore and preserve the owner's asset.
