This preowned location is up Highway 17N from the main dealership. This of course is only for used cars. A quick review showed good used cars but we were looking for something a little more reasonably priced. That was not present here at the time that we came by although we had a good salesman Steven (from the main dealership) who was showing us through and showing us around. The car that we had come to look at was one that they had just been sent to auction. I would think that the better cars would be left at the used car lot and not sent to auction, so maybe it was a good thing as it turned out. Kudos to Steven, not so much on the lack of updates on their website.

Took a car in to have a Pre-purchase inspection. I thought I could feel the clutch slipping, but…read morenaturally wanted to take it to the experts to be sure (clutch job's at least $2k on the car in question). The owner agreed. Charleston Wagon Worx plugged a computer in, and pulled codes off the car, missing various broken interior functions and a replaced windshield (I'd want to know why it was replaced - the car was a 2016). Didn't pull wheels off to look at the brakes and offered no measurements of remaining pad, etc. Icing on the cake was when they then said that they weren't able to check the clutch slippage without pulling it out of the car (I guess they're new at this or something), and wouldn't be able to do a highway drive. I called and asked for my money back now that I'm looking at a $2k clutch job. They said tough luck. So yeah, maybe shame on me for not trusting my gut, which is what I was told on the phone, but the purpose of a PPI is to check the mechanical functions of the car. I would very strongly recommend going elsewhere for vehicle inspections. A clutch should absolutely be checked in a manual transmission car, particularly when the job is this expensive. I really wondered what I paid for here - I can pull codes and do a Carfax myself. Two stars because I'm too kind to give one.

Local Carmax had one model available that was more than I wanted to spend. I told the sales person what ai wanted to spend not how much I had available to spend. They were hesitant to show me the model in stock because it was above the price I mentioned. They actually said they didn't want to show me it because it was nicer than my budget and I might not be satisfied with the other lower priced different model. We did a test drive and they requested a different model from another location that was in my stated price range. I went back for that test drive and was told I couldn't drive it on highway to see how it handled at highway speeds. The highway was less than a half mile from the dealership. Not sure who would buy a car without knowing how it handles and accelerates at different speeds. The "test" drive was a dive around the block essentially on residential streets. Not sure who would buy a car under those circumstances. Wouldn't buy a car from the local Carmax but would consider them again for selling. I bought a newer, lower mileage car for slightly more than the more expensive higher mileage model local CarMax had on my first visit.

When I got to the Charleston location, they notified us that it was ready who went to go pick it up. No one that was currently working. Could explain anything about how to get certain things to operate. They didn't have the time for us, and they didn't give a crap. So we signed off on the vehicle and drove off, assuming that we could get it figured out. By the next day we had come to the conclusion that the two main installed the functions that we ordered the car for or not actually installed. I understand we have a 10 day. But this was a very rare vehicle. The color was highly unique. The rest of the option set was fairly unique. The price the miles everything fit the bill. All they were able to do, or willing to do was give us $1000 off the price the vehicle. It's gonna cost us $4500 or more to get it installed at a dealership that can do the work. Unacceptable. Let's add to that that after we got home with the vehicle, we discovered it was nasty on the inside underneath the seats. And it was the bottom side of it hadn't been cleaned off. There were some kind of oily residue on one of the back windows. And they wanted to give us $50 to have a professionally cleaned. All around experience, not worth the hassle. We used CarMax because we could order and pay for everything online and they even managed to screw that up too. There is absolutely no concern from the corporate headquarters on fixing the problem, and refused to give us any peace of mind that they would try to correct the issue moving forward for any future customers. Went to my local mechanic and he said they were not being honest! since the owner wants to attack me, I was at this shop once before and it was a positive interaction however they said they cleared all my check, engine, lights and warning lights! Once I drove around for a few days, those lights all came back on and I purchased a scanner to figure out what was going on. Turns out that they could've easily figured out that all I needed was a Vapor Canister Purge Solenoid . So after two visits to the shop, not only did they not diagnose it, but it causes me to fail my inspection so then I had to purchase a reader and then fixed it myself! and they said that my warning lights for my headlights and my tail lights were short! So I bought headlights myself and put them in and the tail light was an easy fix, but they couldn't figure this out either! This shop is a farce. Don't trust them whatsoever the owners arguing with me over their failure to actually do a good job for their customers! This car runs great and I take care of it and have every maintenance done that I can as it's driven all across the country for over 107,000 miles so for you to question my upkeep of it is offensive!!!
