They put inva work request to order new struts when I purchased the vehicle. The maintenance department always sent me to voice mail. The maintenance department constantly gave me the run around. Went for a quote on my car Saturday, April 18th. Did not have an appt, very nice start, with person who met us, said they could give me a quote would take 30 min roughly. 35 min later they came back with a quote that was $5,000 less than Carvana! I told them that was significantly less than another quote. I asked if they negotiate and they said no, then the person walked away that was it!!! No more discussion, went next store to Autonation and they were very nice, came back, with a more reasonable quote though still less than Carvana. As I was leaving AN the manager came out and talked to us to tell us what was are best quote. Said he could potentially get to the Carvana price. What a different experience. I purchased a Lexus GS 350 from CarMax Auto Superstore, located at 712 Savage Road, Charleston, SC 29414, in November 2023. In December 2023, I was informed by my loan company that they had not received the vehicle's certificate of title or any proof of ownership listing them as the lienholder. On January 5, 2024, I received a second notice from my loan provider requesting the same documentation. I promptly reported the issue to CarMax and met with a salesman named Lamont, who escorted me to the office. There, I was informed that CarMax had mistakenly listed itself as the lienholder on the title and registration application submitted to the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). I was assured by the CarMax title department that the issue would be corrected immediately. However, on February 9, 2024, I received another written notice from my loan company stating that the corrected certificate of title had still not been received. They reminded me that, per the terms of my loan agreement, the lienholder must be listed with the SC DMV within 90 days of the purchase date. Failure to meet this requirement would result in the loss of my original interest rate and an increase in my monthly payment. In March 2024, I returned to CarMax to follow up. A representative from the title department again acknowledged the error and reassured me that the lienholder information would be corrected with the DMV. On September 18, 2024, my loan company contacted the SC DMV directly. The DMV confirmed that the error stemmed from CarMax incorrectly listing itself as the lienholder and advised that CarMax needed to submit corrected documentation. Due to this continued error, my interest rate was increased to more than double the original loan agreement, resulting in a significantly higher monthly payment. To avoid further excessive interest charges, I paid off the loan in full on March 11, 2025. I am now formally requesting the following: 1. That CarMax correct the lienholder error and provide me with a certificate of title or other proof of ownership listing me as the vehicle owner. 2. That I be reimbursed for the increased interest charges incurred due to this administrative error and CarMax's failure to correct the issue in a timely manner. I returned to CarMax on April 7, 2025, to inquire again. Ms. Whitney Brown informed me she could correct the error on her end and said a manager would follow up with me regarding my other concerns. As of today, April 9, 2025, I have not received any phone call, email, or update regarding this matter. Nor have I received the title for the vehicle, which has now been paid in full. I will update my review if CarMax resolves this issue satisfactorily. read more

My first time dealing with CarMax and I was very impressed with the experience. I was trying to sell my car (2016 Hyundai Elantra GT in good condition), but was not interested in a trade-in. I got it appraised at CarMax and they offered $9,000. The process took about 20 minutes and was very easy. I decided to see if I could sell it privately or to another dealer for a higher price. I took it to 3 other dealers, including a Hyundai dealership, and CarMax continued to have the best offer. After a few weeks, I hadn't had any private buyer interest, and my CarMax offer had expired, so I took it back to CarMax, halfway expecting the second appraisal to come back at a lower price. Nope! Still $9,000. And my customer service rep the second time (Donna) was stellar - super friendly and easy to talk to. Since the offer was good for 7 days, I decided to wait until the last minute to actually sell them my car, and wouldn't you know it that on day 7 I found a private buyer who offered $11k. So in the end I didn't end up selling to CarMax, but I was literally just hours away from doing so. I would not hesitate to do business with them in the future. read more

This place is amazing! It really does give you such a better car buying experience, when compared to a dealership. I was impressed with all the friendly staff and the ability to really look at the cars by yourself, without someone trying to talk you into buying it. They allow you to walk around the large lot of cars, open each and compare so you can really choose what YOU want, not what they need to get off the lot quickly or make a large commission on! My family was very impressed with our sales guy, Lloyd, who we met after we looked around to see what we were really interested in. They offer so many options for vehicles, as well as great warranties that you really pay entirely too much for at the "other" dealerships. There is no haggling for a price, no constant going back and forth to negotiate a deal, just courtesy and assistance to put you into the car you want! I had such a great experience at Carmax working with Nate. It was very clean inside and I felt safe during Covid. The service was amazing and quick and very helpful, they were very polite. The only reason I am giving them four stars is because once they pulled my car around to the front that I had just purchased it was still very dirty inside. There is chewed gum in one of the compartments in the entertainment area up front and it's got quite a bit of dirt marks or spilled liquid of some sort everywhere that could've easily been whipped off by them.
