Weeeeeeeeeell,... they will help you get in to a vehicle... but if you are in one, and want to look at another one - even a way more expensive one (more $$$ for them),... they ignore you. I had a nice car transferred in.... they never let me know it was there. I just saw it was available at the new location for sale, I place a hold on it. I went to test drive it - they locked the door over 15 minutes early right in my face. I called, emailed, posted complaints - all before their actual closing time. With CarMax, it was enjoyable from start to finish. I was able to shop, order the transfer of my car I wanted and test drive it hassle free. If you've never tried CarMax, don't wait... seriously was overall a great experience. The only thing I didn't get with the purchase was new tires and brakes, which their policy for purchase has a minimum "tread depth" and brake pad width, which unfortunately my specific car was just above their minimum. So basically I will need to replace them soon, but are still in great condition. The overall purchase process was great and would highly recommend anyone to try them. Our car was purchased from them. They have had it in the shop more than we have driven it. They had it for over a week 2 times. They called today saying it was ready. We go to get it and notice the back side window has a hole in it and is spider webbed. Service manager tried to say it was like that when we dropped it off. It was not. Furthermore, she said their parking lot is public and anyone can park there. Funny there is a sign posted at the entrance saying unauthorized vehicles will be towed. We asked for the service manager , who never came outside. They refused any liability for the broken window. read more

A great no pressure place to buy or sell a vehicle! What you see is what you get...no-haggling. I am a tough negotiator and kinda like hagglin, but I would recommend this place for anyone, particularly a single female shopper who is intimidated by the traditional dealership haggling to shop here and not be conned. They have a large website and a variety of selection on their lot and warranties available. I would recommend saving your top choices first online and putting a hold on one online with an appointment , rather than wander on the lot and be confused by many choices. My sales consultant Michael Simmons was great and provided with me all the information I needed and quick to reply to email, calls etc, The appraisal process of my vehicle was quick and easy as well. I have zero negative thoughts about my experience here. We came in to get a quote on our car if we decided to trade it in. The process was fast and easy. We loved the no pressure atmosphere! All of the sales people were helpful and friendly. The place was clean, and the process was smooth. It took about 20 minutes to get a quote on our car and during that time, the salesperson helped us look through a few cars on their lot. We even did a test drive. We were in and out in about 40 minutes. Basically unheard of for a car dealership. It's true what they say--those prices are non negotiable. Absolutely the BEST and Fastest car buying experience we have ever had. Didn't think we would drive out with a new to us (used vehicle) in about 3 hrs. From soup to nuts it was an overall quick, clean and painless experience with out all the BS that goes along with buying a car at other dealerships (the BS part of a sales person disappearing to "discuss with the sales manager" a deal for you) Having the finance person shove add-ons down your throat at the 11th hour and having sales people hold your car hostage as they ''value it for a trade in''. Anyway, NONE of that crap happens here at CarMax. Our children bought their first car her as a married couple almost 6 years ago and it was a good experience for them. Same holds true for us this weekend. Lori was our sales rep and she was so sweet and guided us thru the entire process. Our check out and financing was performed by Mary Beth... and she was great too. We got a pretty fair value on our trade in ('12 Subaru Forester) for a 2014 Toyota Prius. The color of the car and all the other amenities were perfect; the only thing wrong was the cloth interior which CarMax and its vendor are reupholstering in leather for us in 5-days. Will update my review once that is all said and done. For those folks wanting to avoid the ''usual'' BS experience and dread of buying a used or new car CarMax is a refuge from all that stuff. read more

Sold my truck to them yesterday. I went to Kelly's blue book first and then got offers from 2 dealerships and then drove over to Carmax. Carmax offered $1200 more than the others and i was in and out in an hour with a check. Heads up on the check, you cannot cash it at their bank. I found this out as i was at Wells Fargo trying to cash an 8k check. You can only deposit it into an account. Probably to prevent scams or fraud i am guessing. we went to CarMax trying to trade in a Hyundi Valoster 2016 with 87,000 miles very nice car Kelly blue book shows $9,500 and this people had the guts to tells us that the car value was $5,000 after a kid went to take a look of the car for five minutes, ironically they had a few hyundi nothin special 2013 and 2012 with over120k miles selling them for 12,999 what kind of thief are this people, I feel bad for the people who they don't know anything about car or they need the money urgent and they buy their cars for half of the price of actual value and CarMax resale this cars for double or triple the price, the only reason this place exist and making millions taking advantage of people with low credit score and they don't know how bad this people are. read more

What a wonderful place to buy or sell a car! I LOVE the no-haggle pricing. What you see on the sticker is the price you pay. None of the traditional "let me check with my manager" tactics that every car dealer does. I first used Carmax in 2008 to sell and purchase a vehicle, and when we decided it was time to car shop again, I knew I would only go with Carmax. I stopped in here this weekend and got my vehicle appraised in about half an hour. I couldn't find what I wanted on the lot, so our sales agent helped us to pick out a new(er) vehicle on their website. It has to be shipped from another state, so I will have it soon. No pushiness, no pressure. Extremely helpful sales people. I love it. I won't shop anywhere else for a vehicle. read more

I tried to get a car transferred from Charlotte, NC and even paid for it and waited 2 weeks and several hours cumulative on hold only to find out that the car was sold and I was not given a refund. The next car I found was in Columbia, SC and had no transfer fee, I was in constant contact and communication with the sales department only to find out that that they sold this car as well. As a single Mom and a healthcare worker I have spent countless hours on hold trying to contact them about a 3rd vehicle and they tried to charge me a $200 transfer fee despite THEIR incompetence. These people are rude and heartless and to be honest I would love to see them go out of business. read more

I've had to use their service department once and that too was relatively painless. Very good experience. I was looking for a very specific vehicle which I located on the CarMax website. The car was transferred at no cost to my locale store. I was allowed to test drive the car and it was exactly the car I wanted. The sales staff was very helpful in getting me into this car. I financed the vehicle through CarMax. I was very happy with the financing that was offered and the process was very easy and smooth. Everyone with whom I dealt was friendly, professional, and fairly knowledgeable about the car. Some issues that occurred were outside the control of CarMax, such as the internet crashing just as we were about to execute the paperwork. The bow was already on the car. The internet was not repaired until the following day and we were able to complete the transaction. I was somewhat surprised they would not allow me to take the car overnight, as it was clear I was purchasing the car and had already given the dealership the car I was trading. read more

Carmax puts the sleazy in car dealerships. Offers one price and then comes up with reasons to devalue the offer by 25-30%. After the appraiser came up with the greatly reduced value, he would not discuss with us directly the logic of the appraisal. I had two different employees come tell me what he said, one of them admitted she didn't know what she was talking about but was just using his words and the other was Richard, one of the sales managers. A business like this that uses these types of tactics and hopes that people's laziness will accept whatever price they devalue it to is a deceptive business practice. They lure people to the business by offering a fair price on the vehicle and then use these lowball bait and switch tactics preying on people's circumstances. I had hoped for better from such a large business. I'll be letting all of our friends and neighbors in the area know that CarMax is not a reputable business. Beware! read more

How you ask? the engine seized................... I am furious beyond words that I was sold a car that was supposed to last me many years that didn't even last me TWO.. Never again! I reserved and paid for a vehicle to be sent here from an ATL area CarMax. After several days of not hearing from anyone I decided to call the dealership to find out what is going on. I was connected to a rep in Raleigh for some reason and he proceeded to tell me the car was in Chas but sent back out to somewhere else and he didn't know why. After a few calls they still won't tell me where and why and who got the car. They just want to find me another one and apologize. To bad you can't give negative stars. BEWARE of Carmax in Charleston SC. Be purchased a Kia SUV from Carmax about a week ago. Before we completed the deal, we asked that they align the car and repair or replace the backup camera. The screen for it was very fuzzy. Since the car was still under warranty, our sales person said they would take it to Kia Country and have them take care of it. Five days later, our sales person told us the car had just been returned by Kia and they said that it's supposed to be like that. She told us if there was anything else we should take it to Kia and they would fix. We were out of town for the holiday and today was the first day we could go to Kia. What we found was that Carmax was NOT HONEST and flat out lied about several things. Our salesperson told us the car was taken to Kia on Monday Nov 14 and returned on Friday Nov 18th. She said they had replaced the camera and said that's "just how it is." When we brought the car home, we looked closer at the backup camera and, from a chip in the material surrounding the camera we noted at the test drive, determined the camera was NEVER replaced. We took the car to Kia today and was told they have no record of our car EVER being at their service department. My husband went back to Carmax and talked to someone in the service department. His records show the car was taken to Kia on November 16 and returned the same day. The lies just keeping adding up and now we question if they even did the alignment they said they did. We asked for the printout but was told that it had been deleted in the system. We asked for the service record and was told they couldn't print it. Now we are just being referred so someone else at Carmax who, of course, is on "vacation." In short, I would not recommend buying anything from Carmax, Charleston. read more

Wow. This was a whole new experience for car buying and I'm not the one looking to buy! I tagged along with my sister to get an appraisal on her 2000 Dodge Durango. She knows she is looking for a used SUV and had a few in mind from her research. Although she was not ready to purchase on this parrticular day, she wanted a better idea of what her car was worth. Kelly Blue Book suggested $500. On entering Carmax, we were greeted by Chuck Hammer at a central desk. She mentioned what we were there for and Chuck explained the process. An appraisal takes about 30 mins. They drive it about a half mile to check it out. In the mean time, we walked along their lot section of SUVs. NO PRESSURE! The keys are in the vehicles so you can sit, turn it on and get a feel for the car. This was extremely helpful for my sister as she was able to narrow her list and see some of their "no haggle" pricing. Chuck came out to tell us the appraisal was ready after 20 minutes but for us to take our time looking and he would be waiting inside. Turns out they appraised it at $700, good for 7 days, and offer to purchase your vehicle whether you buy from Carmax or not. Chuck was so helpful in explaining and making suggestions that it made ME want to buy from him! He offered to search for the cars on my sister's list from their nationwide inventory but she is a researcher like no other and likes to do that herself. Sooo, Chuck advised searching in a 500 mile radius where transfer fees would be slim to none. That is, if she wants to test drive a car in Charlotte Chuck will have it brought to Charleston and there is absolutely no obligation to buy. Sounds like these fees run $0-$250 depending on distance and other factors. So... Obviously I'm digging Carmax and Chuck Hammer(who gave us his personal cell-not because we're special but because he's President Club Chuck.) read more

The facility is awesome even convent for kids,But the sales rep i set the meting with Corey introduced me to carol.i drive a 2018 mirage with 72,000 these people told me my car was worth 2,500 that my motor was not preforming and that i had slug in my motor and that i needed to use my Gap insurance or leave my car downtown to flood .Or wait for it ! my cousin pookie could blow it up (i am a African american )I did not find this funny .My car is under a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty so i still wanted to get into something new after talking with the sales rep they avd me i needed 8,000 down and my payment would be $457.00.IN WHAT UNIVERSE ! i decided to keep my car and take it back to the the dealer.Because to my understanding my car was going to crash any day now the dealer inform me to just put a treatment in with my next oil change and to replace the driver side air censor ,why would sales reps say these things to get a sale from hard working people ! What a great car buying experience! I took my car here a few weeks ago for an appraisal. The salesman (Chuck Hammer) was very thorough in his explanation and he was super nice and personable. He gave my sister and I time to look at cars and only asked a question or two (he didn't 'stalk' us, which was refreshing). The appraisal was pretty fast and it was a little more than I expected. The appraisal is good for 7 days, but it you decide to transfer a car from another location during that time, they will honor the appraisal until the new car comes in. I left and over the next week i continued looking for cars online, at several websites, including CarMax. I found exactly what I wanted on their website in VA. I textd Chuck and he responded within minutes and got the transfer in place. After about a week, the new car arrived. I set up an appointment that day to test drive it and decided to purchase. Chuck explained the whole process in detail and said he would move as quickly as he could (so I could get back to work). They inspected my old car quickly just to make sure nothing serious changed in the 2 weeks. The paperwork took no time and they have a cool option if you are financing through a bank, it's called 3 for Free where you sign up for their financing, which is free for 3 business days, so you can go ahead and take the car but come back with your bank's check. I drove off the lot in about an hour and a half! When I came back with the check from my bank, it only took about 5 minutes to sign a few things and I was done. I absolutely recommend Car Max and intend to go there the next time I need a car - go see Chuck Hammer! read more
