If they are responsive to what I need super professional and it's a very wonderful place to spend a few hours. They are certainly experts. I just had the most horrible experience in my life. Never have I had a stylist disrespect me like this and totally ruin my hair. I grew my hair for months and was really looking forward to a chic haircut. We decided to go for a bob. But the owner literally butchered my hair. She completely thinned it out and gave a totally uneven shabby look. Not only that they gave me the most horrible beachwaves which also didn't compliment the weird haircut. When I looked at my hair I couldn't stop crying and had to be pretty vocal that I didn't like it. I was horrified with their reaction. The owner got defensive and angry. She started talking to me in a loud volume that they are experts and I don't trust them. She even went on to say that this look is in and it's okay if I don't like it. My hair just went through a horrible heat treatment (thrice) and is now dry and full :(! I would have expected them to understand my discomfort and help me but they were more interested in taking a picture of my haircut for their "records" when I was clearly very upset. I have never ever had such an experience in my life! Not only did they give me a horrendous haircut but they also fried my hair! I just want to cry. Clearly they did not have the expertise with certain haircuts and styling and I wish they were just honest about that than experimenting with my hair and ruining it. This place doesn't care about their customers' true needs and just want to push what they want to do. The first thing she told me when I entered was give us a good rating and if you don't like the experience, please dont rate us. Hearing that as the first statement (even before she heard my needs) made me uncomfortable. Ishshe should have stopped her right there and walked out.She then asked me who recommended them and when I said the town Facebook group did, she said they have their disciples there. I don't even want to trust the reviews on the Facebook group anymore. Clearly a couple of "disciples" are promoting this place but this place does NOT have the expertise or the decency to respect their clients needs. Update: After reading the review the owner messaged me privately expressing her displeasure at my review and saying that other customers at the salon were "thankfully witnesses". Again trying to show me that she was not at fault. She also nudged me to reconsider my editing my review but not once is there any realization or genuine apology of how I was treated or any way to amend the damage. If I didn't mention earlier the haircut she gave me was not just different from what I expected, it was subpar to say the least. I'm honestly not surprised at this anymore. Just want to warn other people to stay from this place even if their prices look attractive! It will take me a while to really recover from this traumatic experience. Update (response to the owner): Thank you for your response. Experience doesn't necessarily mean the quantity of years but the quality. Your work clearly lacked quality. I have rocked bobs all my life and my stylists so far have made the best judgement with my hair style and given me cuts that I have absolutely loved. Unfortunately since I'm new to the town I took the risk to try a local salon. I mentioned a chic look and even showed you a picture for inspiration. Did I not? I'm appalled to see that you are not even acknowledging that. But as I said I'm not surprised anymore with your responses because you continue to play defensive. As far as given you a chance to touch my hair again, there is no way I would let you do that. Simply because I do not trust your expertise. I wish I had taken a picture of the horrific waves you guys gave me. There was no way it was getting better from there. It's not the first time I got waves. It just made me so nervous that my hair were just being continuously damaged! The reason I said thrice was because it was blow dried first, then cut, then curled (same sections were curled multiple times to correct the waves), then washed and blow dried again! Never have I exposed my hair to so much heat in under one hour. The result is my hair are totally damaged and looking very limp now. I just never want to visit your salon again after not just the hair treatment but your attitude and lack of professionalism. Too much of a well-kept secret. This salon is amazing! The owner, Miberly, is outstanding. I dropped by on a Tuesday for a quick consult (walk-in, not an appointment) and she was able to fit me in the following day. Miberly fixed my hair color, adding highlights and lowlights and then gave me a great hair cut. It's hard for me to find a good salon for a layered cut. My current hairstylist is far after I moved so I thought I'd try this salon because it was very highly recommended on one of the groups for a layered haircut for textured hair. The stylist even claimed most stylists don't know how to deal with Asian textured hair. So I was eagerly looking forward to a great haircut assuming they know what they're doing. The ambience was great. She even asked questions about what length I wanted and I told her to cut what's necessary and can go 2-3" Shorter as long as it looks healthy. The cut however was like if someone saw a YouTube/Instagram/TikTok video and decided to try it. The stylist wet my hair, asked me to stand, turn around and bend my head and then just chopped off a portion, asking me not to worry and the length won't be short. I sat back in the chair. Scissors were hardly used. Now this cut might have worked on someone who didn't have layers. Since I already had layers on the top they became super short though my longer layers stayed the same. She dried and then soft curled my layers and the top layers looked wierd. When I mentioned the layers looked uneven, she said next time pls mention you would like a long layered cut. So crazy! ‍ not to mention the hair standing at the back where the top of the head is which I never had before with any haircut. She gave me tips to rub it with my palm and help it settle down. Ha! Even now my layers are so uneven that I can't style my hair at all. So much for knowing how to deal with textured hair. read more

She helped me with a last minute request to bring my son in and help fix his hair after a bad experience, at another salon about 30 minutes before. He was really upset, and she was so great with how she treated him with lots of compassion and advice and made him feel much better. Wow. So happy. I moved to Summit almost 3 years ago and I still have trouble finding my go tos for hair, food, etc. SO glad I have Privado a try. Had an appointment at a pricy salon further away and cancelled the day before. On a whim, and based on reviews, called Privado and got in the next day. And only spent $60 on a women's haircut. Would have been spending at least $120 elsewhere. Have naturally curly hair and I am always worried about a new stylist understanding and respecting the curl. Miberly was wonderful. Personal and sweet. This is easily the best haircut I've ever had. I've been waiting forever to feel this happy after a cut. She used a product from Colombia on my hair that I swear I have to go back to purchase. Loved that she threw out something authentic and not produced on my hair. Was a temporary de-frizz cream with keratin - forget the name - and Miberly advised that I could use it all season curly or straight. Had a terrible experience with the team. Had just moved to Summit and was excited to get coupons for a complimentary new hair cut. I have a hair salon in Hoboken that I frequent regularly and am pretty happy with it but knowing that I have an opportunity of trying something new, I wondered why not. I called and checked on whether they are accepting the coupon. The lady says yes and gives me one slot for which I had to literally change my schedule to accommodate it. Once I reach the lady mentions that they are no longer accepting this coupon and would rather give me a 55% off even though the coupon was perfectly valid. Pissed me off on the way they handled the whole thing. Even though I could have got a hair cut at $15, I decided not to. First don't give a coupon if you do intend to meet the obligation. Second if you don't intend to accept it say it while the appointment is booked. Don't make people change their schedule in a waste. This is BAD customer service !!! I debated whether I should post a negative review or not as I don't want to bash a business, but I feel like I was deceived by all the positive reviews here so hopefully this can prevent someone else from getting awful highlights. Unfortunately cannot recommend Privado for highlights. I went in for a partial highlight and told the stylist that I wanted thin, not too bright highlights that blended well with my natural color. I came out with actual streaks that were a half inch off my roots. I have never been so upset about my hair in my almost 20 years of highlights. Furthermore I didn't get the vibe that my stylist was very experienced as he didn't even know how to properly brush colored hair and kept making such a huge scene about how damaged my hair was when he didn't even bother to comb it wet and just tried to go straight to blow-drying without combing it through first or putting in any type of serum or leave in conditioner? It was honestly bizarre and I left feeling really uncomfortable and upset. The woman that checked me out noticed that I wasn't happy and gave me the card of the owner to book a an appointment to fix my hair which was a nice gesture, but I just don't trust them now. read more

She matched my auburn hair shade perfectly (not easy to do) and cuts my hair very well. The other two ladies at the salon are equally competent and nice. Miberli and her sister Anna were welcoming and made an evaluation of my hair that was extremely damaged and dry. I remembered that she could barely comb it! Miberli suggested some steps we could take that day to controlled the damage and some steps we could take in future appointments. We had a plan and I followed it faithfully. Miberli not only cuts my hair, she also applies fabulous KERATINE treatments as well as color and baliage. My hair has never been so healthy and lovely. PRIVADO is a friendly and warm salon. I was greeted as soon as I walked into the shop, and even though it was very busy, I was in Miberly's chair within a few minutes. Before she did anything, she gave me an unhurried consultation. I never in my life have left a review on Yelp, but the fact that I can't stand to look at my hair brings me to do so. Where do I start? After roughly washing my hair with ice cold water and then letting it drip down the back of my dress without attempting to dry it, the haircut began. It seemed like she understood that all I wanted was a trim, but was extremely insistent that I go shorter. After roughly pulling at my hair and poking my face she revealed the haircut. It was subpar at best. She left the front layer of my hair without even touching it so it didn't blend with the rest of my hair. She claimed to do that because "I didn't want it short." I also didn't want obvious portions of my hair looking completely untouched. I then said it was OK for her to slightly trim that piece so it blended in- to my dismay while facing me away from the mirror, she hacked it. I now have this isolated piece of hair constantly flopping around on the side of my face. It looks ridiculous. When I pointed it out, she was one decibel from yelling at me in her defense as to why it was MY fault it was doing that. Incredibly unprofessional. Then, $65 later, I left the salon feeling more insecure than when I walked in. Do NOT waste your money. Terrible experience. read more

I was a client of Miberly at her previous salon and happily followed her when she opened Privado. The salon is lovely, and as others have noted, everything is always immaculate. Miberly and her whole team couldn't be friendlier - they are always quick to offer coffee or tea when you arrive and make you feel immediately at home. As for the services, you couldn't ask for anything better - even at the exclusive (and ultra pricey) salons. I have actually started carrying her business cards with me because so many people have stopped me at the gym, in the grocery store - pretty much everywhere - to ask me who does my hair.
