I truly cannot believe how consistently bad the service is at this Drybar location. I've given this place more chances than it deserves, and after seeing about eight different stylists over time, I can confidently say that the problem is not just one person -- it's everyone. Not a single stylist has been able to give me a good blowout. Every single visit ends the same way: disappointment. My hair never looks right, the blowouts are sloppy, rushed, and nothing like what Drybar is known for. I only continued going because the location is convenient, but convenience does not justify wasting money on a service that is this poorly done. At this point, I'm fully planning on canceling my membership. I also wait every time despite having an appointment. Watching employees sit in the back eating or hanging out while clients wait is beyond frustrating and incredibly unprofessional. The way they handle hair is honestly unacceptable. I've never experienced so much aggressive pulling and yanking during a blowout anywhere else. It's painful. Their shampoo and conditioner also completely knot my hair, which just leads to even more rough handling and discomfort. For the price you pay, this experience is unacceptable. Drybar is supposed to feel like a luxury service, and this location delivers the exact opposite. I just spent 2 weeks in the hospital, I called dry bar to get the glue out of my hair and today was 14 minutes late because of all the physical therapy I was doing, I spoke with Michelle who was not only absolutely disgustingly rude and unkind but then would not answer the phone when I called back and would not give me any info on how to come in. she called me names, and hung up the phone. I've been coming to this drybar for years mainly because I have 3 children and it's the only location close to my home. Everytime I walk in it's like an episode of Mean Girls and the manager especially doesn't help the vibe. I always tip over 20%. Not only did they put me with a stylist who trauma dumped on me for an hour while I was pregnant and talking to me about her pregnancy loss while I was visibly upset...they had in their notes to never put me with her again. So I was put with this stylist again and was accused of not tipping her. The manager had the audacity to call me and accuse me of not tipping her saying I kept the change the stylist gave me and I just left. I was mortified and as a Drybar member I have to go there for location but it's not the experience it should be at all. My old location is Tribeca was far more superior all around. They dont even answer the phone to make or change a time for appointment. Everything i asked to do with my hair the guy did what he wanted. Went today and used my barfly credit. WORST BLOWOUT- usually my dry bar styles taken 1.5 hours, I have this listed when I book as well as my hair type. I tried calling and was told they were busy seeing other clients to confirm they had someone able to do my hair. I went in and received a 35 minute poofy blowout and straightening done by two people at one point the third person came over to complain they person she serviced didn't even tip her and they took turns laughing. My stylist was already waiting to blowout another client so I wasn't able to address my discomfort with the style before leaving. After getting home I noticed sections of my hair are still moist. The costumer service here is the worst I've seen at a Drybar location (I've been to at least 10 between FL, DC, NJ and NY). The stylist weren't an issue but the management and front desk is absolute trash. The manager on staff recently made a quip about the grade of my hair (race) and refused to see me based on that and me being 11 mins late to an appointment. The ladder I could understand IF I had not already spoken with the corporate hotline and provided an ETA but discussing hair grade loudly and aggressively is incredibly unprofessional. I was embarrassed and still have a bad taste in my mouth a month later. It's a shame b/c the location and salon are quite lovely but until there is a staff reboot, its not worth your money (or Groupon!). My vote: go elsewhere! read more

This place was absolutely horrible. Zero management skills, no one speaks properly and always yelling. My cousins and I went there and we came back with nothing. They said we had no appts when we still had them and clearly shown on the email. The receptionist was super rude and said they can't rake any of us because they're heavily booked when in fact we were there for an hour trying to get our hair done and not a single person came inside. Usually I would go to Hoboken, if my multiple sclerosis acts and I need to a style. Also, i usually come with at least hair straight. But I had bad couple days . I didn't straighten for a style. The girl didn't introduce herself . I told I wanted straighten and curls . She half it because my hair was curly at the time. I'm left with a bumpy hair and she didn't put any heat product, which I had to ask her. She said something about my hair . I asked to repeat but said nothing. I was left with not tight curls and not smooth straighten hair. Poor quality she was rush because it's was a Friday . After I called multiple times and leaving voicemails which were never returned my SIL tried finally got through to book appointments for a wedding. With less than 24 hours they have moved our appointment by over an hour which we can't go to because of the wedding. We now have no hair appointment for my brothers wedding. I have gone to drybar for years and never had so many issues only to be cancelled on w less than 24 hours! Drybar should be embarrassed their name is on this location. read more

I would give them one star if I could. This location was phenomenal when Antoinette was the manager. Now that she's left and Hilma has taken over, it's horrendous! I finally canceled my Bar Fly membership after they charged me a $25 cancelation fee for an appointment that I didn't cancel, which is evident by the fact that they ALSO charged me for the appointment! I have called more than 10 times and am always told by Diana that she can't help me and I need to talk to Hilma. Hilma never returns my calls and Diana claims not to know when she will be in the shop. This has been going on since mid-August!!!! I arrived at 8 AM for my scheduled blowout, I communicated to my stylist, that I have a wedding at 5 PM, my hair doesn't hold a curl easily, but this was the only time slot I could book. She finished right at 9 AM, I left and after arriving at home 30 min later, I was already disappointed my hair looked terrible. I called customer service right away, since I didn't have time to go back and get it redone. She stated someone will call me back or send me an email. I tried to curl it myself, but my hair felt so fried, I was afraid it will break! A day later I received an email, that they are happy I shared my feedback, but unfortunately they could not give me a refund. I emailed back, I will ensure to share my experience with everyone and everywhere. I would've given The Drybar a second chance, but I spend a lot of money on a blowout that didn't even last 1 hour! I've been a member since before Covid happened. After they started opening up, I still go but very infrequent since I do my need to go into office. However I started going back more often since May and I notice the service is deteriorating. For last 3 appointments I have to wait for 10-20mins before my appointment time. Today, I have appointment at 4:45pm. I walked in at 4:40pm, no receptionist and 1 hairstylist working on someone's hair and didn't even bother to greet me. It's 5pm and I am still waiting for my appointment. Once I finish my blowouts, I need to find a different place. In addition, the good stylists that were here before Covid and even during Covid are no longer here. I've been to a few Drybar locations and always felt I had a 5 star experience but I was very disappointed in my most recent visit to the Summit location. I was in town for just 24 hours for an event and then headed on a week-long work trip, so I was clear with the stylist that a lot of volume was important to me so it would last. I got no volume. I left with my hair looking literally exactly the same as when I walked in. She even uses a curling iron throughout which I did not aak for and unfortunately I was multi tasking on my phone and by the time I realized she was curling more than just the ends which was all we agreed on, it was too late. The woman at the front desk was unprofessional. Her hair was not styled which I feel is a huge turn off when you walk into a place and the first person you see isn't even put together. I would have to guess that this company has some sort of brand standards for their employees but apparently not. I've also never been to a Drybar where they didn't offer a beverage. I've been to some locations where they offer coffee or tea, but ALWAYS water and the Summit location didn't even do that. I also found she barely scrubbed my scalp for the wash which was disappointing. Don't go here if you have long hair!! Came in about 5mins late because of parking & rain, the stylist asked me what style I wanted, I responded with the Cosmo/MaiTai mix. She said OK and brought me to the back to wash my hair. Afterwards, when my hair is already soaking wet, she tells me that she won't have time to do the style and can only dry my hair. Mind you, I booked a full blowout, style, and braid. She said she could've done a lot more with the time I was late - aka, if I showed up 10mins before I did - but if it took the full hour to wash & dry my hair, you cannot tell me it'd take 10-15 mins to style and braid it! I LOVEDDDDD my hair. I made an appt last minute knowing I was going out and just hoped for the best. Although I've heard good things, my hair is really thick and not everyone can blow it out correctly. My stylist's name is Shelby and I definitely want to make sure when I go back she styles my hair again. She did EXACTLY what I wanted, beach waves. I was a couple minutes late due to parking but it wasn't a big deal. They sat me down right away and began my wash. They also used the Purple Toning Shampoo I brought in. I've been coming to this location for a little over a year now and I've never had much of an issue until recently. First and foremost, like other reviewers have pointed out, the style you leave with is NOT the style that will stay - each time I get the "cosmo", the curls quickly fall & deflate as soon as I leave. Their new COVID protocols are great and all - if they would actually abide by them. I checked in through the email link like I was supposed to and received a text message that they would text me when I can enter the salon. As my appointment time came and left and no text was received, I decided to walk in anyways since I didn't want them to think I was late and try to charge my card on file. Upon walking in, there was no receptionist in sight. One of the stylists said someone would be with me shortly... They then have a stylist approach me so I told her what style I was looking for and that I would like to add a braid in the front, to which she said that could be taken care of no problem. She shampoos me and has me thinking she's my stylist. As I headed back to her chair, I was told by the receptionist that they would be switching my stylist since they needed to "stay on schedule". Whatever that means. So they inconvenience me by making me move all my stuff to the other side of the salon, as well as having to re-explain what I'd like done to my hair to someone new. As soon as I mentioned (again) that I'd like to add a braid, I was told that that would not be possible since I didn't schedule it when I made the blowout appointment and that they were too booked to be able to do that... That is NOT good customer service. As someone who's worked in the hair industry in the past (I was a licensed cosmetologist who worked in a salon for 3 years), I know from experience that a little side braid takes no more than 5 minutes. They literally acted like I asked for an entire updo at the last minute. I was made to feel embarrassed for even asking. Then, to add insult to injury, instead of the stylist dropping it, I had to listen to her pretend to give a sh*t with her "aww it's too bad we can't do it, it would've looked so cute" rhetoric. Yeah no sh*t it would have. But staying "on schedule" is more important to these people than providing good customer service by taking an extra 3 minutes to add a tiny braid. As I was leaving, I noticed that no one was even waiting to be serviced... I feel it's also important to add that a good, professional blowout shouldn't require the use of a flat iron or curling iron. It should only require a round brush. The stylists literally take the round brush to quickly dry your hair in no kind of style to then achieve the requested style with a curling iron. This is probably why the curls fall. I am starting to get very fed up with this location. The staff is always changing, you can't request a specific stylist, the salon is dirty, the receptionists always look miserable, the app never works correctly, they give me a hard time when I ask for purple shampoo instead of clarifying, they don't have any capes so you sit in a pool of your own hair during the service, the list could go on & on. I'm not sure why I still make the 30 minute drive to come here when they clearly don't care about their customers. read more

I have been to this Drybar location three times and had three separate stylists. I have yet to walk out satisfied with my hairstyle. I always ask for the Straight Up, which has some body and bend at the ends. The benefit of Drybar is that it should be universally-understood what that means. Every stylist here does it differently. Today was the final straw. I told the stylist that I wanted the Straight Up, and pointed at it in the catalog of hairstyles that they have at each station. She asks me if I want her to go over it with a flat iron, which is new to me, but since no one there does it the same way, I said sure (she's the stylist!). She washes my hair (worst shampoo I've ever had, to be honest - no pressure on the scalp whatsoever). Then once I'm in the chair, she starts with the blowout. After about 10 minutes, I look up from my magazine and see she was drying it pin straight. I said, "Hey, I just want to confirm that you're doing the Straight Up, because usually that has some bend to it." She says, "No, you told me the Manhattan, which is totally straight, but I can add wave with the iron at the end." Again, ok, you're the expert. So she finishes up and half my hair (the part she did after I picked up on what was happening) has wave at the ends (as requested) and the other half is totally straight. I am not one to complain so I got up and paid (and tipped her well in spite of my experience). I then scruitinized it in the mirror and realized it looked really lopsided. I asked her if there was anything she could do and she offered to use a curling iron on the straight side, which I accepted. I was still unhappy and told her, nicely, and she said "Well, you told me you wanted the Manhattan." I did not. And even if I had, halfway through I told her the other style! Who would accept a blowout that looks totally different on one side than the other?! She did say she could ask her manager if she could redo half my head but at that point it had been an hour and I had to go. I really want to like this place but I will go to a local salon for my blowouts going forward. They clearly hire very green stylists with no customer service training. I went on Christmas Eve this year. The style I got which was basically loose curls was straight within the hour. The stylist I had was nice and professional and all that, and she did ask me specific questions about what I wanted. I showed her a picture and she actually did a decent job recreating what I showed her. But the style just didn't stay. I was really looking forward to this as it was my first experience getting a blowout (I really don't get my hair done often at all). I didn't touch it/brush it/mess with it and I was inside the entire evening, so I'm not sure if she just didn't use the right products but with tip I spent $64 for something I could've done at home. I came here on Saturday to get my hair done for a wedding that night.. first, the stylist burned my scalp with the hair dryer. He had the heat on the hottest setting, held the dryer in one place, rolled up the heated section of hair, and continued to blast heat on the hair curled around the brush at the root of my scalp. My head was stinging after. (Side note: I have Brazilian blowout in my hair-- it's super easy to blow dry my hair. I felt like he ruined my hair by not using enough protective products and burning my hair) Next, I asked for the "cosmopolitan" with tighter curls so the curls would last for the night.. but the stylist gave me large barrel curls all over my head. I don't even know what look he gave me. I cried to him saying I looked like Shirley temple and he said he couldn't make the curls smaller because the iron was too big. I tried asking him to do smaller sections but he was either new to using a curling iron or just didn't know what I was saying. Usually when I leave drybar, I feel like a star.. that was not the case. I was so embarrassed walking out of the salon.. I didn't even want to walk into the Walgreens next door. My stylist reassured me the curls would fall out before my event and just run them through with my fingers so I just let it go and assumed he was right. Well a few hours later and there was no saving it! My hair just looked like a mess.. and I had a major anxiety attack - I had this important wedding to go to and my hair looked worst than its ever looked! It was my first time using Drybar and I made an appointment for my friends wedding. Due to traffic I called and said I would be 15 minutes late- when I got there they said they had to change it from a wash and blow dry to just a dry hairstyle (which is cheaper). I didn't mind and my hair ended up turning out amazing anyways! I got the old fashioned style and I really loved it. I had told my stylist my hair doesn't hold curls well and she used enough product to make sure it stayed most of the night. After all of the reviews, one of my friends convinced me that their good experience outweigh the negative reviews. I went in this morning for a blowout ahead of a photo shoot at my company that included professional headshots. The positive: my hair smells really nice. The negative: it looks...ok. I could have done just as good of a job if I did my own blowout and style. My stylist was nice, but I didn't know his name until I peeked at my little service slip. He was very slow and what takes my regular stylist 35 minutes took him an hour. (Blowout and some loose curls) I was clear with what I wanted, showing a photo of myself if the style I was looking for, telling him which side I usually part my hair, the amount of volume I was looking for, and even warned him about my cowlick and how it can be difficult with my part. The constant running of his hands in my hair as he dried it, I just wanted to grab a round brush and say "can you use this please??" He eventually did, but my hair was flat at that point. My hair is naturally wavy and holds curls great - my hair fell by the time I got to the office and I had to re-curl 3/4 of my hair. The front of my hair fell in my face the whole drive to work - had it been dried properly it wouldn't have. By the time I got to work, the only option create some volume in my hair was to flip my part to the other side. And the "volume" was created by spraying the everloving crap out of the underside of my hair. I didn't hate my style, but the experience was awkward and I was so disappointed by the ending result. At the front desk, the sign about tipping was, to me, awkward. "Tipping. It's such a personal matter. We appreciate whatever gratuity you choose to leave. However, many clients have asked what we recommend given our low prices. So here it goes. If you love your blowout and the service, we suggest $10." Maybe it's me, but I find that a little presumptuous. My everyday salon charges $60 for a senior stylist to cut & blowdry my hair - $15 more than Drybar. I have an amazing experience, the staff is super friendly and professionally dressed. I tip my stylist $20 on a $60 service -- today I didn't tip $10, but I did leave something. I don't know who is in charge here, but someone's got to make some changes: the staff should be dressed nicely, maybe all black? No matter who your client is, maybe greet the person waiting for their service? And for the love of Pete, don't choke your client in a cloud of hairspray. My hair stylist lives near where I work. Next time I'll gladly pay her double to go to her house for a blowout before I come back here. read more

I was very skeptical when I saw the reviews for this location as they were such a mixed bag. Having curly hair I was quite skeptical I would even be paired with a stylist who knew how to manage my hair. On a whim I decided to book an appointment online for a last minute event. I was paired with Angelina and the entire process was wonderful! From checking in, being seated immediately and having my Manhattan blowout completed in under an hr I am nothing but pleased! Terrible experience. I booked a blow out for an event and arrived for my appointment on time only to find out that it had been canceled without any warning. The salon did not have a mechanism for back up support so I was left without this appointment that I planned for ahead of an event. This is unacceptable. If you make an appointment, double and probably even triple check to be sure you aren't left without anything. This DryBar is such a disappointment. The Manager is so rude and unprofessional and gives some of the worst customer service, I've ever experienced. She's always sitting down looking at the computer screen and can barely acknowledges you when you walk in. The staff aren't much better either and they don't even give good blowouts. I have been a Dry Bar frequenter for around 10 years and never had a worse experience than I had at Dry Bar in Summit, New Jersey. Upon arrival, I was kept waiting by the front desk because no one was there and then a stylist rudely told me to take a seat and wait. After several minutes past my appointment time, I asked if they were running behind and they said yes. I asked how long, and they said they needed around 10 more minutes. I had not had lunch that day and it was dinner time so I asked if there a place to grab a slice of pizza on the block while they finished. They pointed me to a place across the street. I was about 20 minutes, instead of around 10 minutes, in coming back because there was a mix-up at the pizza place. They knew where i was (across the street), and had my number (because they had texted me from the NJ location to confirm my visit) but instead of texting me to let me know they were ready, they just waited and when I came back they said they could only do a dry style because I was late. My hair was dirty and I was going to a wedding the next day so that was not a good option. Nor was I happy about the fact that even though I had been courteous enough to give them the extra time they needed, they could not extend me the courtesy of being a few minutes late (even though they could have reached me during that time to let me know they were ready). I was going to leave, as I needed a shampoo before styling. At that time, the stylist said she would take me and do a shampoo. However, during the shampoo, she was rough with my hair and muttered something to herself, which she would not repeat when I inquired if there was an issue. As I sat down at her chair after the shampoo, I asked if we could please be professional to each other for the time that we were going to be spending together. She said that there was no need because there was not going to be any talking, that she would just be taking care of my hair. I requested that she talk to me like an adult, because undoubtedly, we would have to interact about how she was styling my hair. Instead of apologizing for talking to me like I was six, she accused me of talking to her like she was a child. I then asked her why she continued to be so mean to me after she had said she was shampoo and style my hair. Her response was that I was being mean to her. At that point, I left with my hair sopping wet before the conversation devolved further because this was so far from the experience I was used to as a long time customer of Dry Bar around the country. I don't understand how you can be rude to customers from the time they walk in the door, not extend them the courtesy of a few minutes when you were running late yourself and then expect them to be okay with being treated unprofessionally while doing their hair. I managed to get a great blow out and courteous, friendly and KIND treatment at Ateliers113 right across the street the next day. My most disappointing Dry Bar experience ever in the 50 or so times that I have probably been to Dry Bars around the country in the last decade. Tried calling multiple times to make an appt and each time was on hold for over 10 mins just to speak someone to make an appt! No one even answers the phone and you can't make an appt online because it says it's booked. I don't understand?? This is my happy place! Antoniette is one of a kind! From the moment I walked in on my first visit to my now 30th visit she is always extremely accommodating. This is a beautifully unique location as it sits right in downtown Summit! It's not everyday you walk into a salon and people know you by name. Antoniette has fit me in many times at the last minute and is always is super pleasant. Jenna, Gianna and Robin are my favorites and always go above and beyond.
