I was a dedicated client for 10 yrs Unfortunately the past 3 years each time I went for my appointment Mimmo, would recommend I get a perm on a few pieces of my hair that were not as curly as the rest of it. Since I trusted him, I finally agreed. I was disappointed that it didn't take the first time, and that it only dried out my hair. Mimmo told me to come in and he'd fix it the following week. Instead of discussing my hair situation, he permed it again!! Little did I know how damaging this is for curly hair. As time passed I was hoping it would correct itself. But sadly for me, It only became worse I called a few weeks later and discussed how damaged my hair is and how upset I was that I trusted his recommendation for a perm. Since I went back to him to fix it, and it only became more damaged I requested a refund as it states on his website if he can't fix it, you don't pay He refused to refund me the amount for the perm. At this point I decided it's not wise I return. It's going on 6 months and my hair has only gotten worse it's very dry, my once thick hair is now thin, it's breaking,it's discoloured and my curls all bunch together. It's a terrible mess! I went in specifically asking for my hair to not be cut too short and I showed a photo of my own hair in the past at a length I really loved. Mimmo spoke to me at length and basically said my hair would not look good at that length and that it needed to be shorter for various technical reasons. I negotiated for it to be a bit longer than he was suggested but eventually I agreed to a cut that was far shorter than what I came in wanting. I absolutely acknowledge that I agreed. The trouble was he was so persuasive - he made me feel like my hair would look terrible if I didn't agree to let him cut it to the length he wanted. He literally gave me the feeling that there was one correct way to cut my hair and all others would look terrible. One doesn't want to force a stylist to cut your hair in a way that they feel will look awful, so I reluctantly agreed to shorter length. One week later, I'm miserable. It is far too short and I don't care for it at all. I am going down south short and by the time it curls up in the heat it is going to be SO short. Looking back - it makes absolutely no sense to me that he would say my hair needed to be this short to look good. I showed him a photo where my hair looked perfectly lovely a bit longer! I have had my hair in many slightly longer styles and been perfectly happy with it. It did not need to be this short to look good. For me this was a lesson in not getting talked out of what I know I want. I also think the salon should try harder to hear what the customer wants and deliver that instead of talking them into something they have stated they don't want. The hair does curl somewhat nicely and the styling products I purchased are nice. I am trying to focus on the positives, but overall I can't leave a glowing review because it is just far shorter than what I wanted. My feelings about the cut seem similar to the girl who left a review in 2019 and got a perm and wasn't happy. I will note I am leaving some positive comments as I don't want to be entirely negative. And yes, I agreed to the cut, but the point is that customers should not be talked out of what they wanted when they walked into the salon. read more

I have never known how to cut or style my curly hair. Some parts are straight some are wavy and other parts curly. After having received a pretty bad cut from my regular hairdresser I had to go elsewhere. Covid hit and I let my hair grow out, and with it the colour as well. Once we were able to go to hair salons again I started researching salons specializing in curly hair, I decided on Prisma Hair Design. I was super nervous as this salon is on the pricey side and is really out of my comfort zone price wise. Mimmo was amazing and put my mind at ease. My hair had grow out pretty badly, even I could see that. Mimmo asked if it was okay to take off more than what I asked for, I let him take charge. I am so happy I did, my hair is amazing now, Mimmo found curls in areas that I thought was straight hair. Mimmo walked me through the whole process, explaining every step and giving advice on how to wash and style my hair at home. My hair was shorter than I had hoped for but it was understandable after the bad cuts I've had previously. Now 6 weeks after I love my hair it's still looking great (normally I would have to go back by now) I used to use oil in my hair because it always looked so dry. No more oil for my hair because it's looking super healthy and all I do is run my fingers through it and I'm all set for the day. (Perm + cut 6 days ago) 2 stars because the technical skills are great, but leaving a poor review because I hate how it turned out. They did not clearly communicate what I would look like at the end. Perm: I showed reference photos of the kind of curl I was going for (see picture). He said my hair was not long enough to match the reference photos, but I was still under the impression that I would be getting loose curls. I was unpleasantly surprised to see how tight my curls were, especially in my bangs (I said I didn't want my bangs too curly, and he said they'd be "wavy.") I had an afro. Cut: If he had asked permission to cut that many inches, I would have said no. I'm sure it's a great, precise cut, but I never would have approved that much. I was too polite to say I hated the end result and figured I could wash it out at home (didn't work). I suggest managing expectations better. Please clearly communicating what the final result will look like before it's too late. I spent a lot of money on this nightmarish poodle look. read more

I have been coming to Prisma for hair cuts for 5 years now. I have moved North to Parry Sound, and tired different stylist but I have always missed his craft and the time he takes with my hair. It's hard to go from someone who will spend and hour cutting your hair so it is just right, to someone who cuts your hair in 20min. I'm a professional in my career and I want to look that way. ATTN! The purpose of this review is to inform you of my disappointment with the service, quality and outcome of the appointment at the Prisma hair salon with hopes to warn other ladies before they spend an exuberant amount of money for distressing results. After doing my due diligence in researching where to have my hair cut and permed, I chose this salon. I also spoke to the owner and was promised the best possible results as well as a promised a full refund based if dissatisfied on his website disclaimer. In spite of these promises, I left the salon in tears and after several weeks of correspondence did not receive any refund whatsoever. To begin my appointment I discussed the cut and curl I was looking for with the stylist. Mimmo shared his professional opinions regarding the photo examples I gave in stating that he felt my hair would look best with such a perm if it were cut short. My hair was elbow length and although he stated his opinion, I specifically expressed my desire to keep my length. Once agreeing to the curl size, Mimmo began by pulling my hair back and dry cutting it. He cut off approximately 7 inches, in spite of my wishes to keep the length, all prior to commencing the perm. This not only went far beyond how I wanted my hair to be cut but also left the tight ringed curl on the ends as he cut my hair prior to the perm and not afterwards. I was incredibly uncomfortable and upset throughout this entire process as I felt it was done against my wishes as well as to save on the amount of product usage and thus costs. Rather than acknowledging my discomfort, Mimmo took on another client (after guaranteeing that my hair would be finished in time for my scheduled work, and passed me off to his daughter. He failed to check in at any point from that point onward. I was not only 1 hour and 45 minutes late for work but my roots were singed from the perm solution that was left in too long, my hair was significantly shorter than I wanted and he left it a straight cut across with no layers to give it any shape. He in fact stated that if I wanted layers I would have to go even shorter. This review is a reiteration of my experience in short. The stylist/owner, Mimmo, had asked me to come in for a second appointment in order to rectify the situation and promised to refund me if he were to see my hair again but did not return my calls when I attempted to follow up on this secondary appointment. So I've been to this salon three times. The main reason I went to begin with was because I use the Ouidad Hair products and they are amazing - extremely and painfully pricey but they beautifully define and emphasize curls. Anyways, back to the point! The first time I visited the salon it was because I figured the stylists must be as good as the products. I went for a simple wash and style and it was the best styling my hair had ever received. Mimos daughter styled my hair, she was very nice, she asked questions, and even though at times she had a different professional opinion to mine, she never veered from what I asked for. Amazing appointment. 5/5 I decided to go back a third time because I was starting to trust them. I had a very nice curl pattern, 3B/3C mixture. The first time I went to the salon they tried to convince me that my 3C was too tight and it would look more beautiful with 3B. They said this could be done with a curl softening treatment they offered. I took great offense to this. However due to a previous botched cut at another salon, my hair was just below chin-length. I was very self-conscious about the new short length and came to realize that this treatment they spoke about could potentially slightly stretch my curl and allow it to appear lengthier. I went back to the salon after thinking about this and on that day an executive from Ouidad just so happened to be there and I took the opportunity to speak to her more about the treatment. She had told me that it would be a very slight change in curl pattern, one that I would notice but other may not. She told me that the whole process was dependent on Mimo in that he was in charge of mixing the strength of the treatment which would determine how much my curl pattern was altered. We discussed how Mimo (Mimo was there too) would make the strength very low because if I ever decided I wanted the curl even looser, I could go back for another treatment. However, once loosening a curl you can't make it tighter. After this conversation, I went home, thought about it, and decided I would give it a shot. Then comes the day of the treatment. I put all my faith into Mimo based off of the conversation I had with him and the executive, and my own previous happy experiences at the salon... In retrospect, this was the wrong choice and I a certain extent I regret the decision. Everything seemed fine, the wash, they put the treatment in, but then they began to style my hair. What I saw in the mirror was the worst I'd ever seen my hair look. My beautiful 3B/3C curls were gone and what I was left with was hair was resembled nothing but frizz. The curls became frizz balls. Just the other day someone told me my hair looked like cotton, rude yes, but blunt and 100% correct. I cried right there in the chair, I literally had to excuse myself and run to the bathroom. I cried my eyes out for the first time since a hair dresser gave me bangs when I was 10 - I am currently a 25 year old woman and here I am crying in the hair salon. As a woman, we love to say our does not define us and we hate to be reduced to our appearance. But if I am being honest, my hair is a huge part of who I am. I have learnt to love my curly hair. My hair is on display for the world to see on a daily basis so yes, my hair and appearance has an affect on my being and confidence. I could not believe what I saw in the mirror. And to top it all off, even when I told Stefania and Mimo that I did not like it and why, they tried to convince me that it was just the way that it was styled and that if I went home and restyled it, the curls would look different. This really irritated me because people go to the salon so they can walk out looking their best, not so they can go home and restyle it! Then Stefania and Mimo tried to tell me that what I was seeing was my own natural curl pattern and had nothing to do with the treatment because Mimo supposedly only placed the treatment on select parts of my hair. This was completely untrue, I saw what he was doing the entire time. I know where the treatment was placed, and regardless of that I'm pretty sure I know what the natural, unpermed, never dyed hair I've had for 25 years looks like. They did restyle it for me after I cried though... In any case, it's been at least 4 months since I got that treatment. Maybe even 6. I've learnt to play with my hair and style it so it looks great and hides the curl-less sections of complete frizz. I haven't been to the salon since. This salon was not what I thought it was - from beginning to end; I was pushed to add colour to my hair when I said I had never done it nor wanted to. I kept having to reiterate what I wanted done, I said no to extras - washing, blowdrying etc. as it was very hot out and I knew it would be a waste to do that day... and was charged almost $200, which was not explained to me beforehand. I've had my hair cut by amazing salons before, but have NEVER been charged that much. It was a nice haircut, but it wasn't worth that. I was seriously dismayed, and will never return. read more

I started seeing him years ago when I lived above his salon and since that day he has helped me change styles going from short to long and long to short. I trust him fully and appreciate that he is constantly doing courses all over the world to keep up with the latest trends and styles!
