Went in for a hair cut and wanted a simple trim with long layers. First cut ended up with a weird shaped mullet style 80s hair cut. Went back in to salvage the situation by asking to remove the stringy mullet parts and just make it a straight lob. A lady was cutting my hair and the owner took over to teach her how to cut my right side to give it some volume, and asked her to 'now give it a try on the left side'. The lady proceeded to snip off a layer of my hair so short it's now sticking out, and the left and right side is totally uneven. I expected more for paying senior stylist fee, and felt more like I was being cut by a student and the haircut shows. Now I have to pay someone else to fix the haircut. It's right before a big vacation so I'm feeling very disappointed. read more

If there's a negative zero (-0) that would be the score I'd give this salone. I clearly cancelled the appointment before that Saturday based on the attached photo, yet I still got charged for the appointment. The amount is nothing to me (because it's less than $30 US dollars) but it's the principle whereby when I called, the receptionist didn't clearly inform me that there will still be a charge for the full amount if I didn't cancel the appointment either via phone call or online but I did cancel it via text message. On top of this, that receptionist hung up on me while I was explaining the situation so it was a very rude gesture. I don't care that it was an automated text message that your salon couldn't access when I sent the cancellation. If any of your employees couldn't access the automated text, why use the system at all?! A software inefficiency is not the customer's problem but it provides a terrible customer service experience. Customers don't have the time to run around and figure out the cancellation system. Customers prefer one channel of communication, then move on with our daily life tasks. I can guarantee you that I will NEVER recommend any customer to do business with you. read more

To clear things up: The original appointment was scheduled with the owner. A phone call was made an hour before the appointment and he confirmed himself that he would be doing the colour. However, upon arriving, he decided to handle the person who was accompanying me instead. The hair appointment was never scheduled with the junior consultant. I was later told that he didn't "feel" like dealing with me. If any of them would have mentioned that dying my hair a simple ombre would result in severe damage to my hair, I would have categorically refused. I have chopped off 4 inches of my hair to this day and the damage is still visible!!!! I dont recall anyone mentioning SEVERE DAMAGE when I was "clearly" advised of what the results would be. The other option presented to me was to completely strip my hair and then go over with darker colours. I've had ombre done several times over the years and never had and stylist mentioned a need for stripping my hair! Additionally I was never quoted $250 for an ombre when my hair length barely reaches my shoulders. I am not presenting any false or damaging information about your salon on this website. I am simply sharing by horrendous experience. Yelp is a forum for free speech and I am simply hoping to help anyone else from having a similar experience. Hopefully with will also help the salon to better choose how they assign their staff based on their knowledge and experience. Lastly, I would appreciate if the harassing telephone calls would cease. I have no desire to visit your salon ever again. A simple apology and recognition that a mistake was made would have gone a long way, rather than the empty threats I have been receiving. Additionally charging your clients a fee after you CLEARLY made a mistake doesn't show much remorse. A sincere apology goes a long way. If you are looking for a new hair salon - RUN HERE.... don't walk !! LOFT HAIR LOUNGE is just fantastic :-) Tim was my stylist many years ago and I tracked him down here and made an appointment. Walked into a very comfortable salon space with very cool and trendy "wall art" that suits the business. Music was just great - perfect volume to hear over the dryers and the playlist was great and suited multi musical tastes for clients and staff. There are about 5 stylists and all are pretty well educated on colour and the did some great colours & cuts as well while I was here this afternoon. Tim is amazing ! Came in with a problem left from another salon and my nice blond highlighted hair was red and brown and not for me - TIM spent a great deal of time to make sure that it was neutralized and the bad colour stripped and new colour applied. Love the vibe in the salon - all the other clients were nice and we all even chatted (which usually doesn't happen), everyone's hair looked amazing !!! I found a new hair salon which is fantastic !! They do extensions as well and saw a couple being done and very cool process. This place is wonderful !! You need to visit here and spreed the word ! Had a last minute event and no tome to fix my unruly curls. They have an online appt booking option which is so very convenient. I was almost nervous because they had so many open appointments but I booked anyway and was not disappointed at all. I had a blowout with Kenian- she was very very skilled, knowledgeable and kind and funny and quick. I will definitely return and ask for her! The ONLY reason why I can't give 5 stars is that I was very interested in the package deals but when a blowout is $35 and the package is $33..... it doesn't build drive to make this my go-to. ** Update** Please provide photo evidence of this waiver I never signed Timothy.. I'm sorry I couldn't make those appointments as I explained to you before I would have had to take time off of work or school. All you were offering was a free blow dry so that didn't seem worth taking the time off. Not once did I say that I expected the treatment to style my hair. What I was told and what I agreed to was that it would reduce waves, frizz and speed up drying/ styling time and none of this has worked for me. According to Liquid Keratin customer service my hair should be easier to maintain just air drying and be smoother also appear straighter. (I've attached photos of the conversation). Again, As I said to you before it cut down drying/ styling time for the first few days but then as the week went on it started taking the same amount of time to style/dry as it did before the treatment.  This treatment clearly didn't work properly on my hair and I'm confused in why it's difficult for you to admit that. I'm wondering why what your telling me contradicts the information Liquid Keratin customer service gave me?? Also I didn't appreciate your immature email where you pretended you did know who I was. If you're looking for a keratin treatment I"go somewhere else. The photos I've attached is of my hair after the treatment which costed over $500! I know what a keratin treatment is supposed to do and they are saying everything looks fine with my hair. I came here based on the good reviews but I would give them no stars if I could. The treatment lasted a total of 4 washes when they told me it would last 4 months. I've attached a screen shot of the email exchange we had and after they refused to refund me I gave them a call. During that phone call they gave me excuses that just fell flat and made no sense. They went back on what they told me, they questioned my integrity, they actually said they won't give me a refund because it would have been a waste of 2 hours FOR THEM and could have had other clients (there was literally one other person that came in the entire time I was there). They offered me a free blow out and to run a small amount of keratin through parts of my hair, which would do nothing for me seeming my entire hair would need it. Kenlyn gave me a beautiful keratin treatment and a nice haircut for my long hair. I requested an appointment that morning and she was kind enough to accommodate me same day. She explained everything in detail and let me know what to expect from liquid keratin. I also got a free 7 day adjustment period to modify my haircut after going home which I really like as It takes a day or so to get a real feel of new hairstyle after the treatment and cut. I have found my hair haven! I ruined my blonde hair a year ago with boxed auburn and instantly regretted it--Erin did the most miraculously amazing colour correction and then blonded me up beyond my wildest dreams! And after so much bleach, my hair is ridiculously soft, never happened like that before, usually it gets dry and breaky for awhile. I can't say enough good things about this place, I felt so at home, and the owner Tim was there and is also just a wonderful and talented creature of joy. I had such a good time and came away with literally the BEST effing blonde job I have ever had. Amazing products, amazing skills, amazing atmosphere, if you like cool and kind and fun people. Excellent consultation, they are really about what you are looking for and how to get there happily. ALSO: I recently had a bout of alopecia areata, with two toonie sized bald spots on top and back of my head and was very nervous about a hairdresser's reaction; AMAZING. I discovered this salon because it was across the street from my work. After checking out yelp, IG, and the salon, I booked an appointment right away. The service I received was a root bleach out. Kenian and Tim took care of me and both of them are amazingly fantastic. They were welcoming, accommodating, and these people KNOW HAIR. They knew my hair without me saying anything. Whenever I go to a salon, my biggest fear is how much hair I'll lose because my hair is severely damaged from bleach. They were able to lift my Asian black roots to pretty much platinum, in ONE SESSION (I've never experienced this in any other salon), all over tone, and no hair loss!! To say that I am ecstatic would be an understatement. Will def return for more services and highly highly recommend! read more

I go to Loft every year for a drastic style change and they always live up to my expectations. Konstantine was so kind and patient during the 6 hour process to strip my super dark indian hair down to a blonde that wasn't a comic book yellow. I came by with a couple photos of the feel I wanted and he worked magic to get me there! I'm left with a lovely honey bronde and feel super fresh. I got my hair transformed by Konstantine yesterday and it looks awesome. I love it and judging by all the "likes" & comments on Facebook everyone else does too lol! I went in with worn out blue/green hair and wanted to go back to a brown w/ some lighter pieces to break it up a bit...not necessarily an easy task. After a consultation we agreed on a bronde sombre look. I really appreciated the time and patience Konstantine took to get it right including a few strand tests with various products to start. Had my hair coloured/cut on the hottest day this summer and NO working air conditioning. Offered wine but no water over 3 hours! Hair colour nice but haircut horrible. Old fashioned bob, curled under and fringe is heavy and boring! I asked for Queen West edgy and got an '80's bob! Very disappointed after laying out $300! Tim and his staff were not only talented, but extremely accommodating, professional, and friendly. I contacted Loft/Tim after a friend's recommendation. We were part of a bridal party and needed our hair done by 9:30am on Sunday of a long weekend. Tim and two of his staff opened at 8am to accommodate 4 appointments. The staff were very efficient and did a great job on us. We were all out the door by 9:15am. The prices were also extremely reasonable - $35 for a blowdry and $40 for an updo style. After calling so many salons asking if they would open early, and being told that we would either be charged close to double the normal prices, or that they could only operate during business hours, I am so happy I came across Loft. read more

I stumbled upon the Loft recently, and have had my hair styled/cut there a few times. The lady who cuts my hair is from BC. I found her to be very attentive to detail - seems like she values her profession and results. I love the haircuts I have received from her. Cost: Cut+wash+'styling product' = 34+ 5 (tip) = $39 - comparatively pricey to what else is around in the same neighbourhood. As for the atmosphere, its cool and relaxed. Its not stuck up or intimidating. Very welcoming atmosphere, and it does feel like you are in a loft owned by hair experts. The picture doesn't do the place justice. read more

Great quality salon! but have found it hard to make an appointment now, as I guess it is becoming more popular. I needed colour correction so they insisted I book a hair consultation first so they can have a look at my hair, so I did that and then on the same day tried to book my hair appointment. It took me awhile to look for a day for my hair appointment with the person who looked at my hair. I kept wondering if there was anyone else who could help me fix my overprocessed bleached hair the whole time, because I had to wait weeks to have it done. I didn't end up making it to my appointment because of a situation I was having and they were understanding, and let the cancellation fee slide for that time. But anyway, this place has great quality hair care service and its probably the most beautifully decorated hair salon I've seen, love the girly / vintage vibes ! :) read more

NEVER go to Loft Hair Lounge. Read the other reviews, they are horrible! I wish I saw this business on YELP before booking my service. Although the staff is friendly, and a pleasure to chat with, I am not going to a hair salon to talk. There lack of communication and skill between colleagues is a complete fail and I highly advise those looking for a hair salon downtown to look elsewhere. There are SO many better options. I went to the salon for the first time to try out a strengthening treatment for my hair. With Britney's detailed description she helped me decide on a gloss treatment and Olaplex #2 to follow. I was excited to have this treatment done to help keep my hair in strong condition. I get to the salon and have the gloss treatment, and then the olaplex treatment. Britney was juggling myself, and another customer. When my timer went off, Britney asked Tim (the owner of all people) to wash out my hair. Tim completely forgot to wash out the dye and olaplex out of my hair! He was suppose to wash it with shampoo after, so I had semi permanent gloss AND olaplex in my hair for HOURS. He simply put in a conditioner, and sent me on my way. What??? I started to get a burning/itching sensation on my scalp and thats when I decided to do future research into the process of hair gloss and Olaplex. You are suppose to SHAMPOO and condition after this treatment. I now have red bumps on my scalp from the chemical product sitting on my scalp. Even if Tim didn't hear Britney, he should have known that after Olaplex and and Hair gloss you are suppose to SHAMPOO it out. If he was not sure he should have confirmed with his colleague Britney. How basic. I called the salon back and there was no remorse, no apology, no offer to help remediate the situation and to be honest, TIM couldn't care less. Tim the owner is rude, incompetent, and I guarantee that salon will not be around over the next few years. Not with that kind of poor customer service, and immature attitude. I will say, Britney is a pleasure to deal with. Thorough, detailed, and she seems to really know what she's doing. It's too bad she was juggling two clients at once as I think if it was her alone working with me, my treatment would have been a success. She should run her own salon. Tim: Don't even bother contacting me to remediate your incredibly poor business manner. I would never trust your hands on my hair again, and would certainly never recommend you to anyone. Good luck. On top of that....If I really asked you not to shampoo my hair then, why would you have put conditioner in my hair? If I asked for no shampoo and conditioner, OBVIOUSLY the price would not be 30$/30$. On top of all this, shouldn't you confirm with the client what my needs are? Tim, tim tim... stop digging yourself into a hole. Your lack of honesty in this matter makes me incredibly frustrated with you. You cannot pawn off your mistakes to your colleague Britney, or the CLIENT. As a business owner, you are the sole person responsible in customer service, and solving matters. (While bickering with both of them the whole time, he had two 'intern' co-workers each colour one half of my hair, asymmetrically, and then make a total of 3 cuts--while the foil was in, charging me for a full cut...I could go on.) Relived the nightmare through a million emails telling me to come back. Finally broke my 'Don't bother to write negative reviews' rule (since I don't like to throw good time after bad) and wrote a review online at Vagaro, their new booking system. Then I get a phone call at *11:45 pm* last night, asking me to explain why. Today I return it and talk to Tim, the owner, who fails to apologize for the late call, and essentially complains that I am to blame for not bringing the issue to his attention earlier. The stylist who cut my hair was nervous and didn't seem to know what she was doing. The end result of the cut was not what I wanted and just not a good haircut (uneven, bizarre angles). She definitely should have been charging entry-level or apprentice prices. But the worst was how she yanked an earring out of my ear with a comb, broke it, hurt my ear, and then still charged me full price for a botched cut and destroying my jewelry! The friendly owner did give me a free treatment card. But after a cut that looks I did it myself in the bathroom, an injured ear, a broken gold earring and a $73 charge on my credit card, I'll be staying away and suggest you do as well. read more

I originally sought out Loft Hair Lounge on the recommendation of a friend. I was new to the city, and needed to find a hairstylist I could trust, and Tim is that hairstylist for me. Tim took the time to consider both what I wanted and what worked. Originally I wanted to exchange my long, ash/dark blonde locks for a short, choppy red bob, and Tim did an amazing job, not only with the colour (a vibrant copper marble) but also the cut, which gave my fine, limp hair some volume. My biggest worry was styling my own hair. Of course it looked fantastic in the salon, but I wasn't sure if I could replicate it at home. My hair has weird cowlicks and flat spots and I was expecting to be disappointed the first time I tackled it on my own, but I needn't have worried--somehow, he was able to cut my hair in a way that made it quick and easy to style. There was no weird flip on the bottom of my hair, and it had volume! More recently, I returned for a trim, side bangs, and colour (brunette with subtle blond highlights). Again, Tim did an incredible job. The colour is exactly what I wanted, and again, it's so easy to style at home. What makes it for me is that Tim really puts the effort in to know what you need. He considers what cut works best for your hair type, how much time and effort you're willing to put into styling your hair, and what your everyday style is like so that your hair will compliment it. I am very impressed by their level of skills. Frederic colored my hair from a messy all sort of black and brown shades to a beautiful blonde, just a perfect shade for my complextion. I was fist consulted by Konstantine he is very knowledgable and trustable but on the day of booking i was booked with Frederic and he was amazing. they are all very kind, compassionate, professional and friendly. I had a great experience and I am so glad I tried this place after having many failed attempts to find a good hair dresser. I also did liquid Keratin today and so far , it is a great result with minimal exposure to toxin whereas other types. Thank you all , you are just Marvelous. read more

I went to loft hair lounge for the first time and was bombarded by the owner, who was obnoxious and shoving products & services down my throat. All I wanted was a colour! My stylist was awesome.... but the owner made me feel terrible for turning down treatments and products and kept persisting. At the end of my visit he insinuated that I couldn't afford the services and if i referred in some friends I would be able to get some $$ off. This was all delivered in a very condescending tone. Just had my hair taken care of at Loft Hair Lounge by Luana, and... I love it!! She did an amazing job from start to finish - providing advice and guidance for getting toner to resolve some over-bright highlights (from a different salon on Bay Street!), and advising me to have a keratin treatment. Throughout the process, she was just great: Attentive to what was happening, answering my questions about the process, and generally taking great care of me. I enjoyed the whole feel of the place and the other hair care professionals; it was a laid back and very cool environment. Very nice people. I recently had a cut and colour there. Despite having a photo and explaining that I would only colour over my current red if the stylist felt it was possible to cover it without stripping the hair, I ended up with maroon hair and a mom cut. Leaving the salon I wasn't sure that I would complain, or if I would just go somewhere else to get it fixed. In the end I emailed and explained my dissatisfaction. Tim was very polite and appreciative of feedback and did book me in to fix the problems, which was fantastic customer service. However, leaving the salon a second time I still do not have the cut I asked for, despite explaining why I wasn't happy with the first cut, and again showing a picture. In addition, I was charged $40 for a blow out even though I was clear that I was going home to sleep and mentioned that I didn't want anything fancy done to my hair. In fact there was so much product in my hair when I left that I had to immediately wash it once I returned home. I looked like a walking 80s hair ad (picture extremely big and stiff hair). Given the inconvenience of having to go all the way back to the salon, and the time it took to fix the problem, I don't think charging for a blow out was appropriate. I was so shocked at the counter that I was speechless. As icing on the cake, both of my appointments were spent listening to the stylist complain that people are always looking to pay little money for his services. For the record, with a total of $200 dollars in charges for my haircut I could have gone somewhere with much better quality. read more

This salon gave me an overpriced hair cut and colour a few months back. The customer service was extremely lacking with entirely too much gossip. I like going to a salon and feeling pampered not like I am inconveniencing them and unwanted. Also they have continued to call me to book another appointment since August calling every couple weeks. Now I understand that they want customers to return but once I have told them numerous times that I am not interested and they continue to call that's when it's bad. Every time they deny and say that they didn't know I had been contacted. They need to keep better record of things. I have since placed them on a blocked call list.
