I've grown up with kittens and adult cats my whole 39 years on this earth. As a child I went with my parents to the vet to take our cats (and dogs), witnessed our cat (that we had from the time I was Kindergarten-college) that got hit by a car when I was in the 4th grade and had to get his tail amputated. I wanted to adopt a kitten for my son and we checked out Princeton's Meow, it was filthy, it reeked of cat urine and feces. The lady with the short brown hair and glasses and almost every other person in there working were sneezing and sniffling the entire time and she seemed not to be able to form a complete sentence without stammering over herself because she didn't know anything about any of the cats we asked her about. There were boxes all over the floor that made it hard to get by to each room, that was a safety hazard. Some of the cats had sores on their noses as if they had been mis treated or neglected. I told them I'd be interested in declawing my cat like our old veterinarian and Petsmart did for us several times back in the early to late 90's and 2000's and so forth. This place began sending me harassing emails saying if I do that to a cat then xyz will happen. I told them to please leave me alone since they turned me down for adoption, but they continued to send me harassing emails from their agency. Then got an email from an "Alara Krown". I'm not sure if that's an alias or someone's actual name who works there. I then told her if they continued to email me then I'd report them for harassment. Next thing I know they send me an anonymous letter in the mail stating the same thing. That's not a good look. You already run a shady business with very weird hours, but you all continue to harass me?? You turned me down, so why continue to bother me? I don't want one of your old kittens anyway. I do however feel bad for them because of the improper way you all are treating them. Very unsanitary and harmful. Poor kitties. read more

My husband and I saw some cats in 2020 on the Princeton's Meow website and facebook page who caught my eye. I corresponded with Vanessa about 1 specific cats' personality before we drove the 2 hours to visit. She was a wealth of information as I used the chat box to correspond with her and ask questions from their facebook page. My husband and I visited and ended up adopting a lovely 5 yr and 8 yr old cat. There were sooo many friendly cats in the cageless (cats walking around rooms) atmosphere! Staff and volunteers were friendly to us and let us move easily throughout the building's rooms, checking cats out. We are in love with our 2, these two years later. I used to be a vet tech and as one reviewer wrote, I did see a few of the cats appear to have upper respiratory symptoms including the 8yr old I adopted, but having worked at an SPCA myself years ago, it's just one of those common things that happens when you have cats living in close quarters in most any cat shelter or rescue. It did not deter me nor phase me. Most of the cats looked just fine and were running and jumping about and playing with toys and engaging with us. We saw mostly adult cats that day. And the staff were great about knowing the cats histories and answering questions about their behavior. They knew their cats! I commend this rescue for what they offer these cats and we are thrilled with Bianca and Mya (original names from the rescue). They are delightful girls. And they are older, yes, which is what I was preferring as with older cats, 'what you see is what you get'. Plus, I was looking for more subdued cats who would do well with our senior dogs. We made out great with our 2 girls and I would go back to this rescue and adopt from them again, if we had the space or desire to do so. Both cats were spayed already and were current on vaccines. We took them home the same day we met them. We had been told to bring proof of rabies vaccines for our other pets, which we brought with us. It was an easy adoption process and I was very happy to pay the adoption fees for both, knowing the money would help other future cats. read more

This is by far the most unprofessional organization I have ever dealt with. Their place is not clean and 75 percent of there cats do not look healthy nor taken care of. I work in a veterinary hospital and I have over 40 years experience with owning cats. The people at this sorry excuse for a rescue thought they knew better than my vet and treated me like I was an idiot and shouldn't listen to my vet. If you thinking of adopting, avoid this place. I honestly think you are better off going to a kill shelter and adopting from there since they have limited days to be adopted. read more

I went to Princeton's Meow to adopt a cat - and was "chosen" by Louie and his friend Reeses. Louie came up to me purring, then introduced me to Reeses who also purred when went up to her. Took both home and they are wonderful. Friendly, loving, happy, healthy cats. At the shelter, when you enter the rooms with the cats, volunteers are sitting with them, focused on the cats - petting and talking to them. The care taken with the cats shows up when they come to their new home. Fantastic dispositions, they are welcoming to visitors in my home, they love to be petted and to snuggle up. Such great additions to the family. Upon adopting the cats, all of the medical records are provided. There are regular medical checkups so you can see the cats are in great health and indeed, 3 months later, these cats show no signs of any issues. I've been to many rescue shelters over the years (and adopted several pets), and this is hands down the very best I've ever seen. Excellent facility that truely cares for the cats in their charge. Princeton's Meow is a great place to find a cat who is the perfect fit for your family and the cat's individual personality and needs. They take great care in making sure that potential adopters are well-informed about the type of home and lifestyle is ideal for each cat. It is nothing short of remarkable how much Princeton's staff genuinely care about all of the cats under their custody. I volunteered there in high school (circa 2012) so I saw firsthand all the work that they put into taking care of the cats there and their careful consideration of each cats personalized needs (e.g., diet, personality considerations, medical conditions, etc.) and how those considerations shape day-to-day operations. I later adopted one of my cats there and had no problems with the adoption process or any staff members involved. Princeton's staff were thorough in going over my cat's needs and made sure that I was "vetted" and would provide her a loving home, but also facilitated an easy process on my side. I'm not sure about the other reviewer's experience, but in my assessment (based on what I saw while volunteering there and my own adoption experience), they won't just hand you a cat and send you out the door without a second thought, but they won't make you jump through hoops either. And the whole purpose is to make sure adoptions have the best outcomes for all (cat + human) involved so I'd think most would find any questions they might have to be quite reasonable. As a no-kill (and cage-free!) shelter, Princeton's does a great service by keeping many sweet cats alive and well taken care of, especially those who kill shelters would sooner give up on. The cat I adopted from Princeton's might not have been given the chance to find a forever home if she'd been at another shelter because she has a chronic health condition which makes her a less attractive candidate for adoption given her long-term care needs, but Princeton's gave her a chance to find a family and she is the sweetest cat I have ever had. TL;DR: Princeton's Meow is a great place with great staff who take great care of great cats. I highly recommend adopting from (or volunteering for) Princeton's. read more

I've been volunteering for Princeton's for over five years now. It's the only cat shelter in the area at that time, that was cage free. That's still the case. I foster, as well as help out at adoption events and other events that take place during the year. Their goal is to save as many lives as possible by pulling from high kill shelters, as well as making sure the cats go to the proper homes. It's vital that the cat is a match for the correct home. Princeton's doesn't dwell on the numbers. The dwell on the best situation for the animal and the family. If you are ever in the market to rescue a cat, or volunteer, please give Princeton's some thought. read more

As a foster parent for this shelter, I see some things "behind the scenes" that other's wouldn't. This is an extremely reputable shelter. I assure any potential adopter that these cats are well taken care of. (Temporary) foster homes are always needed! We literally save lives that are rescued from other (kill) shelters on a regular basis. read more

Unfortunately, my experience in trying to provide a cat with a good home was discouraged by a member of the Princeton's Meow shelter. I have never been treated so oddly. It was not the entire staff, but just one older lady with short brown curly hair that was very rude and denied a cat a good home. If you choose to visit this shelter be aware of this crazy cat lady. The Shelter is very crowded and could be better organized and cleaned, but the cats did seem very well fed. Although, this lady was annoying as she drilled me of my incapability to take care of a cat. I thought to myself that I have successfully raised three great kids and our family loves animals ...I think I can handle taking care of a cat. Well thanks to this rude lady, I moved on to find a great rescue foster home and adopted Marley. Marley now has a great home and is much loved...she was the one anyway. I just wonder how many cats could experience the same great love, yet loving people get turned away. read more

This is a great place to start if you are looking to adopt a cat. The staff at Princeton are very professional and very friendly. Every cat I have owned (6) were all adopted from rescue shelters. You could tell by looking at the cats at Princeton that they are well taken care of. We ended up adopting "Nigel" and he turned out to be one of the most lovable cat I have ever had. Nigel was a great match for me and my family. Thanks Princeton for taking care of Nigel until he found his forever home. read more
