We dropped in to the Cornelius Animal Shelter today to donate some cat litter, treats and toys…read more When we lived in New York we worked closely with the local animal shelter and would foster sick cats and kittens through them until they were ready to go back to the shelter and get adopted. Our new place down here isn't big enough to handle fosters, but we still want to help out all those poor kitties. The shelter is set up to hold about sixty cats at a time (not sure how many dogs), though when we went there were under twenty of them. The cages are very spacious and clean which is important to not only the cat's health but to make them more "attractive" to prospective parents who drop in. There is also a nice little wooded area set aside as a dog walking trail, so there is a nice place where their dogs can get some exercise. The employee at the front desk was very friendly and appreciative of our donation. The location is a little off the beaten path but still worth visiting if you're looking to bring home a new family member. The cost to adopt a cat is $85 and it's $95 for a dog. I would highly recommend adopting over purchasing from a breeder or somewhere else.

My foster pit was with them about 12 years ago, and even then I saw the depth of their commitment, compassion, and integrity. Years later, nothing has changed except that the need has grown and they continue to show up anyway. They do far more than just place animals. They advocate, problem-solve, network, fundraise, transport, foster, and emotionally carry cases that most people would walk away from. They step in when animals are overlooked, misunderstood, or discarded, and they do it with care, patience, and respect for both the animals and the humans involved. Rescue work is exhausting, thankless, and often met with criticism rather than support. Catering to Cats and Dogs continues to do it because they genuinely care, even when it is hard, even when it hurts, and even when the outcomes are uncertain. They are exactly the kind of rescue this world needs more of. I will always be grateful for the role they played in my foster's life, and I deeply respect the volunteers who continue to give so much of themselves to help animals who have already been failed by humans.

They all just got spayed/neutered and were awaiting pick up for their new homes. A lot of the big dogs too. They were only about 4 available dogs. I got there about 3pm and also saw people leaving the clinic side of the building with their cone head dogs too. This makes my heart so happy. This place is doing wonderful things and making magic. They had adorable cats too, well 1 cat and about 6 kittens. ‍ also noticed they had a cat cafe but I didn't see a espresso machine and I only saw 1 cat. I don't know if it's only open certain hours but that's a wonderful idea. The sign said tea also so I hope they're able to get that going and they make need a volunteer for the cafe. Or a book club and other groups to visit! Wink wink

But this time it was different. You had to get on a wait list to be let in the room, and they watch you the entire time, and you have to commit to adopting in order to interact with the cats and dogs, which is so much pressure. I was told that they had to do it this way because the old way was stressing the animals out, because people had unruly children... I can see it both ways, but I was selfish in the moment and just wanted to cuddle some cuteness. I wish people would consider these things when they go places with their children, teach your kids how to properly interact with animals, and respect their space. That's how I teach my son, I point out the animals social cues to him, I tell him when to pull back if the animal is getting over simulated. We've never had an issue, we always enjoy our visits with our furry friends and it's always a great time! So, I hate that a boundary had to be set, most people are looking for their next pet and may not be ready to commit in that moment, had I known this prior to coming we would have not come at all. The facility is clean, but the minute you walk in to where the animals are being kept, you are slapped in the face with a really pungent smell... Some dogs had feces in the spaces that they were being kept in, which was really sad. Dogs are much messier than cats so I know it happens. Our visit this time around wasn't as pleasant, because of the changes. But the staff were super nice and attentive.

As a child I went with…read moremy parents to the vet to take our cats (and dogs), witnessed our cat (that we had from the time I was Kindergarten-college) that got hit by a car when I was in the 4th grade and had to get his tail amputated. I wanted to adopt a kitten for my son and we checked out Princeton's Meow, it was filthy, it reeked of cat urine and feces. The lady with the short brown hair and glasses and almost every other person in there working were sneezing and sniffling the entire time and she seemed not to be able to form a complete sentence without stammering over herself because she didn't know anything about any of the cats we asked her about. There were boxes all over the floor that made it hard to get by to each room, that was a safety hazard. Some of the cats had sores on their noses as if they had been mis treated or neglected. I told them I'd be interested in declawing my cat like our old veterinarian and Petsmart did for us several times back in the early to late 90's and 2000's and so forth. This place began sending me harassing emails saying if I do that to a cat then xyz will happen. I told them to please leave me alone since they turned me down for adoption, but they continued to send me harassing emails from their agency. Then got an email from an "Alara Krown". I'm not sure if that's an alias or someone's actual name who works there. I then told her if they continued to email me then I'd report them for harassment. Next thing I know they send me an anonymous letter in the mail stating the same thing. That's not a good look. You already run a shady business with very weird hours, but you all continue to harass me?? You turned me down, so why continue to bother me? I don't want one of your old kittens anyway. I do however feel bad for them because of the improper way you all are treating them. Very unsanitary and harmful. Poor kitties.

I corresponded with Vanessa about 1 specific cats' personality before we drove the 2 hours to visit. She was a wealth of information as I used the chat box to correspond with her and ask questions from their facebook page. My husband and I visited and ended up adopting a lovely 5 yr and 8 yr old cat. There were sooo many friendly cats in the cageless (cats walking around rooms) atmosphere! Staff and volunteers were friendly to us and let us move easily throughout the building's rooms, checking cats out. We are in love with our 2, these two years later. I used to be a vet tech and as one reviewer wrote, I did see a few of the cats appear to have upper respiratory symptoms including the 8yr old I adopted, but having worked at an SPCA myself years ago, it's just one of those common things that happens when you have cats living in close quarters in most any cat shelter or rescue. It did not deter me nor phase me. Most of the cats looked just fine and were running and jumping about and playing with toys and engaging with us. We saw mostly adult cats that day. And the staff were great about knowing the cats histories and answering questions about their behavior. They knew their cats! I commend this rescue for what they offer these cats and we are thrilled with Bianca and Mya (original names from the rescue). They are delightful girls. And they are older, yes, which is what I was preferring as with older cats, 'what you see is what you get'. Plus, I was looking for more subdued cats who would do well with our senior dogs. We made out great with our 2 girls and I would go back to this rescue and adopt from them again, if we had the space or desire to do so. Both cats were spayed already and were current on vaccines. We took them home the same day we met them. We had been told to bring proof of rabies vaccines for our other pets, which we brought with us. It was an easy adoption process and I was very happy to pay the adoption fees for both, knowing the money would help other future cats.
