I had a horrible experience here today, and unfortunately, this will be my last visit. I went in for a simple pedicure with a shellac French tip, and the technician was unable to do the French tip properly. She repeatedly tried, but the application was uneven and not what I asked for. After several attempts, I finally told her to just leave it as one colour because I was so frustrated. This isn't my first disappointing experience at this salon either. I've been here twice before and had issues with the service each time. I really wanted to give the salon another chance, but today was the final straw. I left extremely disappointed, and honestly, it ruined my day. For the price you pay, I expect better quality and attention to detail. I definitely won't be returning. read more

I can't say that I've ever had a bad experience here, but today was exceptional. I came in for an acrylic fill, and had Michelle as my nail tech. She was lovely, gentle and took her time to make sure that my nails were just how I wanted them. Most times I've had my nails done at small salons the experience feels rushed, but she made the experience as enjoyable as possible. I'll definitely be asking for her next time! read more

Princess Nails - Fresh set of nails! - Nail Salons Near Me - Halifax, Nova Scotia

I have never had a worse manicure ever. I was in the area and decided to pop in but wish I had checked the reviews first. The shape, filing, colour and coating were all bad; like a child could have done a better job. The only positive is that they took me as a walk in and were friendly enough. I'm so disappointed in the result and looking for somewhere to fix my nails. read more

Princess Nails - Nail Salons Near Me - Halifax, Nova Scotia

I used to be a big fan of this location. I think a good set of nails depends on who does them and how busy they are. If it's a busy time of day, I find they rush and they can get sloppy looking. It's almost as if they want to get as many people in and out as possible. I find it disappointing. If I'm paying good money for nails, I'd like a good set put on. Also, I am a bit worried about the cleanliness of this shop. I was disgusted the last time I was there and watched them do a pedicure on a lady and then do another right after it usually the same foot bath without even sterilizing or washing out the unit. To me that is just plan old dirty. Who knows what type of fungus or infection some people may have. Also, I notice that their tools that they use to put on the acrylic nails, are not properly washed either. It makes me think twice before going back. read more

My girlfriend wants a pedicure before Mexico trip. She says would I get one with her. I'm a dude? I say no. She says they will remove the rough skin on my heel. I say wth I can be metro for a day. She takes me to princess nails lacewood Clayton park. Feb 28 @ 520pm. The water is cold in the foot bath. I find out from my gf that I could've asked for warm or hot. I didn't know what's the process so I said nothing. The first person leaves & a woman starts trimming my toes & I feel pain. A moment later I see blood oozing from right side of my big toe. She then pulls out a long device with sharp tip & sticks it into the cut area deeper & more pain more blood. I'm wincing. I ask my gf is this normal she is shocked. No its not. The lady dumps I assume some sort of anti septic & brushes a clear substance in the other toes. 4 toes out of ten & walks away. Half the foot trimmed. 4 toes covered in a clear liquid thing. The big toe bleeding. As I wait my gf is drying coloured nails. We both wait 20 more minutes realize that the others are sweeping to close. My tech walks back finally, pauses in front of me, looks at my bleeding toe while my gf & a mother /daughter watch on... And get this? She breaks into laughter and walks away. Our techs never come back again. My gf removed her toe separators & went to front desk a guy who looked like a rasta dude in dreads says I don't know what is happening, I don't know what your girl is doing, can I finish your foot? In mean time while he slaps clear crap on the other foot that wasn't clipped? Then we dress & my gf goes to pay & explains how I didn't get it finished, she (the tech) cut me & laughed & walked away. He shrugs & says sorry but your total for 2 is just under $60 bucks. I was furious. Charged to get half a foot trimmed & a cut & stabbed & left bleeding. The guy cashier said he thought maybe it would somehow be explainable if I had an ingrown nail but he even he saw no signs of that & I've never had any pain or issue with toes ever. What a completely poorly run business. I looked up website today. 3 locations promising royal treatment of your body? Pampering? I could stab myself at home & have my gf laugh at me for free! read more

I clearly should have looked at the review before going to Princess nails. I went for a pedicure in 2020 and had booked ahead of time. The first time, the lady drew a design, some kind of pattern or flower or something I cannot discern, and she said "you like?" I said okay half heartedly, not wanting to offend her and not knowing what she just did. When I got to the counter, after having confirmed it was "$35", he tells he it was 40 + tax. I ask why and he said its an extra $5 for design. I explain to him that I did not want the design nor did I ask for it. He says "oh well, sorry to hear but this is the cost" quite rudely. A year later, its 2021, unfortunately, somehow, I land up back again in the area and go there (should have realised my mistake based on how empty it was at peak time) and the lady does my pedicure in about 12-15 minutes. I am confused and I see her apply one coat of nail polish and she says "one coat" is just fine. I wonder why not two and she says she has put the top coat so cannot put another coat. I am unsure what to say so I pay and leave and go, vowing never to return, no matter how desperate I am for a pedicure. read more

Went to DC Princess Nails before Christmas with my 3 adult children as a treat. Two of us had pedi's and 2 had mani's. My first clue this would have been a cheap experience is how much availability they had during Covid. It was worse than worse. We were rushed through the moment we walked in. We were not given even a little time to pick our colours but aggressively suggested what colours we should pick. "Silver polish with shiny finish is perfect and nice for holidays." During my daughter's manicure she was asked if she wanted a Christmas tree design, she was delighted and said yes (one nail, thank gawd, because they did not tell us it was an extra 5$ per nail to squiggle a tree) lol. Our bad for assuming part of mani and not asking. Equipment was shared between the two having mani's and the two having pedi's. I had a pedi as did one of my daughters. When my pedi was started, after my soak, the same equipment was used on my feet that was used on hers...........no sterilizing at all in between which made me wonder about previous customers, because she is now seeking medical treatment for a fungus infection (not me though) but I am struggling with an in grown toe nail from a horrible toe nail trim gone bad. The whole experience was horrible, not clean, rushed, masks below nose or off at times, totally forced to pick a colour very quickly and lastly, the massage of my feet and lower leg was so fast and aggressive I felt like our Country was on the brink of evasion and only they knew it. It was truly an awful experience. I gave a 1 star because there was nothing lower. Do not get a (at least a pedi) at this place and risk an infection or an ingrown toe nail, painful, due to a bad rushed unapologetic cut with uncleansed toe nail clippers. I cannot in good conscious ever recommend a mani or pedi at this place, nor will I ever return. Worst experience ever. read more

This place SUCKS. My friend and I came in on a Friday afternoon to get pedi/medi done. There's a sign out front that says "special pedi & medi for $40" and I should've known that when something's too good to be true it usually is. Two 15year old boys were sent out to do our pedis. It took less than 15 minutes, no massages or nail buffing. Neither my calluses or cuticles were removed. Only one coat of polish was applied and off he went. A different 15yo came to do medi and I told him never mind I don't want it anymore after seeing how the pedi was done and he just shrugged and left. My friend also said no medi after the base coat was put on poorly on her fingernails but when we went to the cashier she was charged $46 for both pedi and medi. We told the cashier that she only had the base coat put on, they didn't even treat her cuticles or buff her nails and they still made her pay $41 ($5 off) because her nails were filed. We've just moved to Halifax from a big city and thought this was such a quaint city with amazingly friendly people and small businesses but PRINCESS NAILS IS A SCAM and ought to be reported to the bbb so it can stop putting a bad image to this town with its horrid service. read more

Princess Nails - Poorly done job. Can still see the cuticles and calluses after a $34 dollar pedi - Nail Salons Near Me - Halifax, Nova Scotia

I've visited Princess Nails twice now. Both times for a pedicure. A few things to know: 1) You generally don't need an appointment unless you're going in a big group 2) Because they do shellac and all of those chemical nail services you get smacked in the face by the strong chemical smell when you walk in. If you have any kind of scent sensitivity what so ever, this place is likely not for you. 3) You will be constantly asked for the "up sell" and be careful because if you say "yes" to any of the questions your affordable pedicure gets more expensive. (i.e. saying yes to the Sea Salt scrub means you get a calf rub down and scrub and you pay an extra $10, saying yes to the flower on your big toes and extra $5-10, saying yes to the paraffin dip an extra $15. If you manage to say No to all of the above, you'll get out of there for $28 taxes in for your Pedi. 4) It's a quick but efficient process. And it's not always a gentle process, so fair warning. I was in and out in 30 minutes on a Saturday morning. 5) They do have massage chairs with hyrdospas for Pedicure clients and lots of television screens and magazines for your entertainment while waiting. It's a decent option for a reasonably priced pedicure, but not what I would call a "spa-like" experience. My personal recommendation is visit only if you're on a budget, aren't looking for a spa-experience for your pedi and really don't mind the strong chemical smell. read more

I've been to Princess Nails a few times but last night was the first time I was there in about 3 years. I have to say I was impressed with the changes they've made. They've gotten some new gear, and the place looks pretty good. As always, VERY clean! We were there as a group of 7 to get our nails done for my best friend's wedding. They sat us, mostly, together so we could chat. The ladies were very nice, but only one of them spoke English so it was a little hard to communicate. They were so quick! And they did a lovely job. They also let us know that if we had any chips or damage before the wedding to come back and they'd fix it at no cost. Not a big deal, but a very nice touch. I can't comment on the price, as it was a gift from the bride, but I will say that if I needed a manicure again I would go back to Princess Nails. read more

I venture to Princess Nails to get my eyebrows done. Let me tell you, they are quick but not gentle which is fine. They get them done and at about 1/2 the price of uh.. anywhere else.. $8.05 with tax.. not bad. I really do not think I could stay in the establishment for very long, the smell of the chemicals makes it hard to breathe. I would suggest a better ventilation system. So, if you need a quick brow fix on a budget this is your place! read more

I have been there 3 times now once for gel nails and twice for fills. My nails always look great and they last and I love them! The service could be worked on. 1 out of 3 times they didn't cut me... Just once! There's also not much social interaction, mostly talking among themselves. Many times they've left me with my hands up to fans to start someone else's nails. Don't say yes to anything extra it'll cost you but they won't tell you that. The place I must say is very clean. They disinfect foot basins and wipe down massage chairs. read more

Really friendly staff, got a standard pedicure and it was everything I was hoping for. Really reasonably priced.

This is the only place I've ever gotten my nails done. I've been there roughly 15 times. I get acrylics or fills each time. I'm usually okay with the service - as they end up looking nice and they last long.. but this time was not as pleasant. I agree with everyone else in saying that there's a few employees who are quite rude - and very pushy. The service is rushed absolutely. However, Danny is amazing at the Dartmouth Crossing location and is the reason I've returned. Usually someone else would start my nails and Danny would finish them off. Today wasn't the same, and a younger boy worked on my nails. I found him very rude, and kept laughing at I don't know what, and asking "are you okay now".. which I don't know what meant but ok. Did not listen when I said I wanted white as a base coat, and used what he wanted. I didn't like, so he redid them and appeared obviously irritated. Made comments to other workers about it, which I could hear, which really irritated me. My nails feel weird underneath, and the edges are not clean and smooth. One hands nails do not match my other hands, and are not the same length. I'm really unhappy with my latest experience and probably won't go back because of it. Any other time where Danny worked on my nails, they turned out lovely and he was fast and efficient. Other workers, I can't say the same for. read more

I got "gel" nails on which is really acrylic and way over charged me. The price did not match up. when I went to get them taken off they used a tip of another nail and ripped my real nails as well and had to glue my nails back in place in some spots. I had sore cuticles from not taking proper care when getting my nails done. Also many hang nails one infected from ripping them off. Not impressed and will not go back. read more

Popped into Princess Nails to get my gel polish switched up. I'd been there a number of times for waxing, and had good experiences. Unfortunately, when it comes to nails, the service, or at least my experience with their service, was less than satisfactory. First, the nail tech, instead of soaking and removing the existing gel polish, used the dremel-like file to remove my polish, as well as a few layers of my nails. Next, the tech trimmed the skin around my nails and shaped my nails, but did not push back/trim my cuticles. The nail tech then proceeded to paint my nails, cuticles and all, ensuring that less than a week later, the gel polish, which should easily last 2-3 weeks, is peeling/lifting. With the manicure I got prior to this one, not a single nail chipped or lifted, even after 4 weeks. Disappointed. read more

Ok I am writing this after I've had my shellac removed by another salon so I have something to compare that experience to the experience I had in THIS salon a few weeks ago. The staff NEED TO KNOW how to remove shellac properly! They do not! BEWARE! I had my shellac done at the other salon for the first time, hence it was my first time having it removed. I didn't wanna make a trip all the way to downtown so I thought I'll drop by this one. I came out a bit confused as they just soaked my nails, scraped off polish, gave me a cuticle oil and off I went. It took A MONTH to restore my nails after, they were all bumpy and stained with everything I held (pen ink etc). Being a total no0b at this and hearing people say their nails are crap after shellac - I thought this was a normal thing. This was until I went to another salon (J'adore in Bedford) and saw how you actually PROPERLY remove shellac and it leaves your nails smooth and healthy. So I didn't wanna come back in the first place and now knowing that their staff have no idea what they are doing - I will DEFINITELY not come back. There are much better salons with better skilled staff who know what they are doing. read more

I went to Princess Nails today for a pedicure - the shop was almost empty which I put down to COVID. I looked up part way through my pedicure to see two employees who had completely taken off their masks and saw several others whose masks were not covering their noses. Obviously, other customers have noticed and are avoiding the shop. I've gone here regularly for many years and was very disappointed at this turn of events. I pointed out the problem to the reception desk and told them that I would not be back until COVID was over - but as I walked out the door I realized that I would never be back. If the management and staff do not care about their customers enough to follow proper covid procedures, I do not care to return. read more

I signed up to Yelp just so I could write this review. I went in, without an appointment, to get a mani pedi with the shalac polish. I have had this done MANY times before, never here. (I just moved here from BC.) The dremel seems like a good idea at first, however it grinds a groove along your cuticle. How is that for growing out? That remains to be seen. The $10 salt scrub is a total scam. No soaking of my cuticles, right to the dremel, and then the oiling of my cuticles. I was directed to wash my hands BETWEEN my legs. In a skirt. Fun. The gel base was applied and then the first coat of the polish. As my hands are coming out of the lamps I notice the polish all up in my cuticles, sloppily applied. I ask for them to be fixed. Out comes the dremel. Second base coat and polish goes on. When I check my pinkie I am told "You don't need to check each finger." I am left for a crazy amount of time to cure. In BC my salon had a timer, 90 seconds each coat. I am left there to stew and vibrate in the chair. As she pulls out my hands to wipe them down I am told they have been there 27 years. And then I see that the "fix" didn't fix anything and I now have nails my three year old niece could have painted. I remark that my nails are not fixed and that there is polish up to and on my cuticles. She argues with me and again explains gel polish to me and, while wielding the cuticle scissors, says she can take it off. I think she is going to trim my skin and resist to which she says she can just scrape off the polish. I am so angry at this point I just want to leave and I say so. We go to the cash area and she is obviously worried I will not pay the 98$ total. Still arguing with me in hushed tones as to keep other customers ignorant of my complaint, I feel like walking out without paying. Instead I tell her that arguing with me is infuriating, "This is not my first gel manicure!" Don't go here. It's not worth it. read more

WARNING; do not ever go here. It is the biggest waste of money. They have the worst customer service. I went for a set of gel nails for a vacation and the day I had them done they were getting chipped, there were imprints on them, and some you can even see through to my actual nail because the polish was put on so poorly. They look extremely tacky..... not what you would want to spend $60 on when you aren't even getting chellac! I waited for an hour and 40 minutes for the worst nail job I've ever had in my life. On top of that I voiced my concerns and they said they cannot offer a refund. Don't ever go to princess nails, I should've checked the other reviews before I went. read more

Have tried this place several times and each time it falls short. Inspite of appointment made I was left with feet soaking for over 25 minutes with no one coming to check with me. My sister as well on the same day experienced the same wait. There seems no management but instead every technician does what they want at their own speed. There seems to be staff that are in training and I really don't think people there are certified or properly trained. They are members of the Cosmetology institute which means very little from the level of service received. Instruments are not sterilized but instead just wiped and they move on to the next client with the same instruments in tow. It is hard to communicate with the staff as most do not try to communicate with you and not sure if they can or won't speak English. You are just a $ sign. I will not return nor will my sister. read more

Very bad experience ! I felt that they were so in rush to get rid of me and my friend ! I asked more than a few times how I want my nails to be done, and honestly I do them my self for years and I would of still done them better and I'm not a professional ! The girl that did my nails I felt that she didn't care what I wanted just to get my money ! Which for the result was way to overpriced ! She also made me bleed in several fingers ! I got acrylics done and the ends of my nails are so thick that are very uncomfortable , and I know how they are supposed to look like. Not recommend at all ! To bad I don't remember the name of the girl that did me And my friend ! Maybe not everyone in there is as bad ! read more

For the most part they don't care about the quality of their work- it's all about the money. My mom and I had a mani-pedi today and the girl I had did a pretty terrible job; bad enough that another one of them had to fix it for me! 5 of my fingernails had to be re-done. It's not only the finished product that's bad either. The girl rushed through my pedicure- was really rough while she was filing, slammed my foot down when she was ready for the other foot, wasn't watching what she was doing and scraped the foot file in between my toes not once but twice. Slapped the polish on and moved onto the next customer. Then instead of an apology from anybody (let alone a discount) I had to pay $11 extra because they filed down my old nails. I swear the price goes up every couple weeks. A bunch of the massage chairs were broken too. They don't seem to realize (or care) that people go for the experience just as much as they do for the service; we go for a relaxing spa-like experience and we just end up feeling like another product on an assembly line. It was disappointing from beginning to end and my mother and I will 100% not be going back. read more

Love this place I have been going here for many years. Love the staff, service is great and they do a fantastic job on my nails and waxing.

Meegan D is dead on: chemical smell and up-sell are two pervasive things here. Why do I give three stars? Well, Halifax is just not up to speed on the inexpensive manicure/pedicure train. So, simply put, I am giving them extra credit. Coming from Toronto, I've been really surprised by this city's total lack of cheap nail shops. I used to get my toes done for $20~ . Here, Princess Nails is about as good a deal as you'll find, for $28+ tip for the basics. I've adjusted okay though, don't worry about me. The main thing I find really weird about Princess Nails is how they have an assembly line of workers who silently trade off positions working on your feet. On my most recent visit, one man disinterestedly scrubbed and put lotion on my feet and legs. After a few minutes, a young woman came and did my cuticles. Then, after waiting some more minutes with no explanation, she returned (though, it seemed, after a trade-off discussion with another employee) to do my polish. Someone else then checked my polish some time later and sent me on my way with still-semi-soft toes that smudged. (Luckily, YEARS of pedicures have taught me the self-fixes). (UPDATE: I lied. they were ruined.) As for the upsell, I must say that grumbling "you want salt scrub?" to the distracted, magazine-reading person whose soaking feet you have ransomed is a very sneaky way to increase your profits by about 40%. So, yeah. Meh. But until i find a better alternative at this price, or a comparable alternative for less, I'll stick with this place and accept it for what it is. read more

Not a big fan. I felt like I was on a production line: I had 4 different people do my nails - midway through filing and shaping one person got up and walked away without saying a word to me then someone else came in to finish shaping then they got up and wandered off then someone else came in to paint them then they took off for someone else to finish up. Really? Also all the chatting amongst themselves in a language other than english was quite rude and unprofessional. My nails turned out OK - I've definitely had better. I won't go back. read more

I have been going to Princess Nails for 7yrs & not once have I ever seen them NOT clean the foot bath basin, they spray it, rinse it & wipe it, I always look around & watch when someone leaves & a new customer comes to that spot & if it hadn't been cleaned they move them to another. The smell doesn't bother me at all & if you don't like the smell of regular nail polish then don't go there because it's 10 times stronger. The staff is friendly, the fish tanks are beautiful & the place is spotless. The Staff talking in their language is a bit annoying but face it, they don't speak the best english so they chit chat with each other. WTG Princess Nails...you're the best!! read more

If you're looking for a "pampering" experience, don't come here. When I spend money for a pedicure, I expect to feel pampered and to have the outcome look better than I could do myself. My old polish wasn't removed entirely, so I have a "glow" from the previous color on my toes. I would expect to get a leg and foot massage with lotion -- Nope! No attention was paid to any calloused areas. I could have done a better job myself at home. Technicians were talking on personal calls while working on customers! Last, but not least -- the odors! They keep the back door open for smokers. Needless to say, the smoke blows into the salon. You leave with an unpleasant aroma of an ashtray - no extra charge! Additionally, when they let the water out of the pedicure tubs, you're hit with a sewage aroma. Obviously, there is something wrong with their plumbing system. I was visiting Halifax from Ontario, and needed a solar fill. I walked into Princess nails and was told a solar fill was 35.00, I had one person start on my nails after waiting 20+ minutes, then a woman came to continue. She refused to do them the way I asked ( she argued with me ), she cut me 3 times, sprayed on the tips when I asked for white powder tips, I also had white spray paint all over my hands. She also said whomever did my nails previous did a terrible job ( they were very well done ) she didn't put the powder over all of my nails and are now lifting off my real nails. I went to pay and complain, I was charged 46.00 after being told the price was 35.00 and was told it was because she put 2 new nails on when I had just asked for a dab of glue to hold my real nail down as it was lifting a bit in the corner. Instead she changed the nails and didn't tell me I would be charged extra. My nails have never looked this bad in all my years of getting them done. I wouldn't let these people paint my dogs nails.
