When you pull up, it looks like your typical Wilkes-Barre pizza place and when you go inside there are a few tables and piles of bottled beverages and a few coolers. We were hesitant to sit, but it was clean and you could see the chef at work in the kitchen next to a pile of empty pizza boxes and a few people were leaving with their pizza to go. So, we sat at the window table next to the cooler amongst the piles of soda and started out with the menu. Not inexpensive, but not terrible either. My wife ordered Lasagna and I decided to risk the linguini and clams. The bruschetta they serve as an appetizer was good. Just the right amount of butter and not overly toasted. I started to get my hopes up. The bread , soup and salad that came out next was perfectly done. The salad was fresh and the bread was homemade. Intrigue starts to settle in as I look around. Could it be a mythical diamond in the rough in heights section of Wilkes-Barre? It didn't take long at all for our entrees to arrive (the restaurant was empty besides us) and when they did I wasn't as surprised as I would have been if we hadn't been served anything before then, but finding such an unassuming business serving homemade Italian fare that rivals any chain and even upscale establishments is an inspiring experience. Needless to say, everything was delicious. Suddenly our quaint surroundings take on another quality, like a coded message warning away the unadventurous or unfortunate uniformed foodie. The great thing about this place is even though there's a ton of traditional favorites, they find a way to put their own unique spin on certain meals. They have a few eponymous dishes and we got one of them, the Chicken Mylana's (crispy chicken, cajun cream, cherry tomatoes, spinach over penne). The chicken had an incredible crunch to it and didn't get soggy in the sauce; the tomatoes were nicely roasted and the Cajun cream was not overly Cajuny or spiced, just nicely seasoned. I'm not sure who Alana is, but damn does she know how to blacken a tuna steak. Along with the pickled julienne veggie 'salad' and dressed with an inspiring whole grain mustard/balsamic drizzle combo, I would have to order that every time; it may be the best version of that dish I've ever had anywhere given the sear and the accompanied veggies. The Shrimp Catania app was also absolutely incredible, and garlic-butter-chablis trio was bright and flavorful. Cocktails were bangin' (we started with a Negroni and Cosmopolitan Margarita, which was a brilliant idea but forget from there), the gnocchi Bolognese hit every spot that it needed to fill and every bite had a wealth of meat sauce with it.
