Service was great, the food was marginal at best. The chicken was rubbery and not good at all. We had both the chicken Alfredo and the chicken Parmesan and both tasted like the chicken was microwaved. The server Casey was great and very prompt and courteous. read more

A surprising find in downtown New Castle. I had a small Broad Street salad with orange vinaigrette dressing and the Wild Mushroom Ravioli. That salad was fresh and good. The orange dressing tasted like a pesto sauce. It was different as a dressing but I think I would try it again. But I'm not sure why it has orange in the name. The Wild Mushroom Ravioli entree was excellent! The stuffing inside the ravioli was flavorful and the alfredo sauce was excellent. The are a few mushrooms on top of the ravioli which were delicious. I wish there had been more of those! The entree was served with a breadstick. It was ok but definitely nothing special. I only ate it because I dipped it in the entree's alfredo sauce. The breadstick could've been a bit fresher and had a bit more flavorful. I will definitely be going back. read more

We were very pleasantly surprised with our visit to Primo! The food was delicious and the service was fantastic! Definitely better than any chain Italian restaurant! Prices are comparable too. I think the only thing that would make this restaurant better is if a salad and bread came with the meal! Other than that no complaints! Very nice restaurant! We will definitely be back! Horrible management. I've eaten at Primo five times, and each time there have been some good things, and some bad things about the experience. Today was a new low. I have a limited time for lunch, I cant wait an hour for the food to arrive. So I try to make sure the server knows that from the start so there is no confusion about that, and so that they can let me know if its going to be a problem. Okay, so I didn't mention that to the server today, because the last time I was in for lunch she was so quick that it was not an issue at all. I'm sorry I didn't say anything this time around. My pasta sat under the warmer for 20 minutes waiting for delivery to the table because my co-workers' chicken sandwich was not prepared at the same time as my food. Therefore, by the time we got our lunch, the cream sauce had separated, and the pasta was drying out. The chicken in her sandwich was "twangy" according to my co-worker... which is apparently what happens to chicken when you microwave it. ;-) The worst part for me about this experience was that the owner was walking around outside talking to people on the street instead of rolling up his sleeves and helping out his staff. He seems incredibly unprofessional in shorts and t shirt, watching like a hawk from the bar, but not helping anyone. It's too bad he doesn't stand behind the kitchen staff by hiring more help, and help out the wait staff by making the rounds to apologize to customers when food is cold and slow. I do try to always say something nice, so, I will say that the flavors are good. They clearly paid someone to develop a decent menu, but it appears that since that time, they've decided to cut back in the kitchen. The food quality was hit and miss. The fresh produce was not good. The tomato sandwich I had last week was almost devoid of flavor because the tomatoes were like winter-time Styrofoam tomatoes... but its the middle of summer in the heart of Indiana, the tomatoes should have been amazing and plentiful. I cant decide whether they need better people in the kitchen, or just more of them, my guess would be both. I feel sorry for the staff trying to earn a living in a place like this. My husband and I stopped here for lunch. I had the salami sandwich on ciabatta with a spicy aoli and a cup of onion soup with panchetta. My husband had the meatball sandwich with a cup of onion soup with panchetta. First off my husband's meatball sandwich was terrible there were 4 very small meatball halves on the sandwich. The marinara was bland tasted like stewed tomatos, that's all no flavor. The soup was good, My sandwich was also bland only 2 very thin see through slices of salami, the spicy aoli was non existant could not taste any flavor at all. So if your looking for non spicy this is it. Too much bread and not enough fillers. Sorry Newcastle this is not a hit! If this is what I have to look forward to in fine dining in Newcastle I'll drive to Indianapolis! read more

Came with family of varied ages and the restaurant did not disappoint. Really appreciated having a place like this in New Castle. Would have really enjoyed it when I used to live there. I don't remember exactly what everyone ordered since it's been several months, but everyone liked the food plenty and appreciated the service. Let's see, um, I think I had something with mushrooms and a cream sauce. Big fan of mushrooms, so that sounds like something I would order. Quality stuff whatever it was. Wish I could remember. I do recall seeing spaghetti dangling from my 5 year-old niece's mouth in large quantities. She was happy. Staff was very pleasant with all of us. Would gladly come back. Maybe with a date. Wink-wink. Seriously, Tien, if you're reading this, we should go here. Share some wine and Lady-and-the-Tramp a meatball. Then, we can stroll through downtown beneath the crimson crepuscular rays of an Indiana twilight as we slowly walk back to my parents' house nearby to watch reruns of the Rockford Files with my dad over coffee and ice cream. read more

I have been to Primo twice already and was very impressed. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the servers were very kind and worked hard to meet our needs. The first night I ordered the cheese ravioli as my entree and then the cannoli plate for dessert. Both were delicious. The second time I went we ordered the blue cheese chips as an appetizer. It was delicious and inexpensive. This time I ordered the roasted vegetable lasagna and loved it. The other people in my party ordered a meatball sandwich and chicken Parmesan. They were all pleased with their food. This visit also included cannolis as well as rich chocolate cake for dessert. We will visit again! This restaurant was much needed in New Castle. read more

We decided to try this restaurant on our way home from Chicago. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. The Italian food is "ok". We started with their calamari which was quite tough, hence we did not finish it. My husband had a 1/2 Caesar salad (which was a lot!) and I had the Caprese salad which was tasty. The slices of tomato could have been bigger (they used a very small tomato). I figured since it was prime tomato growing/harvesting time the size and quality of the tomato should be great! It wasn't. For dinner I ordered the Alfredo and the waitress recommended I have it with shrimp. I wondered why & then when it came I understood. It was pretty bland otherwise. My husband ordered the lasagna boulagnase which was a lot of food but it too was rather bland. The waitress was very attentive. It really is hard to find truly delicious Italian food on the road. Lunch today was a hit but a miss...great service, kind, professional and attentive service from my waiter. Someone else brought out my food, Wild Mushroom Ravioli with Garlic Cream Sauce, topped with marinated portabella mushrooms. Apparently no one knew where the mushrooms were...they were yelling across the restaurant asking where they were, then only to bring my dish without them altogether. Of which by the way was almost cold, room temperature at best. The edges of the ravioli were all hard, somewhat crunchy to chew...which is a super weird when it's supposed to be ravioli in your mouth. The cream sauce and mushroom filling had excellent flavor, and I'm sure would have been even better had the dish been warm. When my waiter next asked if I needed anything else, I asked about the mushrooms and he gladly went to find these illustrious mushrooms. He brought me the smallest cup of the tiniest chopped mushrooms I think I've ever seen. There literally was not even a tablespoon in this little cup...I almost laughed! I don't think I will bother to come back since they can't bother to actually serve the food that is ordered and posted on their menu or bother to serve it warm. read more

I am so impressed with this new restaurant in downtown New Castle. Great service, decent wine and bar menu, and a beautifully renovated space. The food is very good: my husband had the eggplant ravioli and I enjoyed the vegetable lasagna. The tiramisu is excellent! I am so happy to have a good local Italian restaurant in the area, and, honestly, any new eatery in this dreary town is fabulous news. I hope they are able to maintain their standards of quality, and, more importantly, that they will continue to enjoy the support of the local populace. Unfortunately, this was a poor excuse for dinner in an otherwise lovely place. I was with a large group who had a buffet for a private party. We were told it was 'pasta primavera' and what we got was the most bland spaghetti with something equal to stewed tomatoes-no flavor AT ALL; not pasta primavera in any way shape or form..not even a decent attempt at spaghetti with marinara. Our 'garden salad' looked and tasted like it came from a bag with croutons and grape tomatoes added to attempt to dress it up. If it wasn't for a mediocre breadstick I would have left as hungry as I was when i arrived. The $12/person price for such low quality was even more frustrating. This is not the first time I have had a buffet meal at Primo, and this time was more disappointing than the others (which were a letdown as well). I hope their menu items are better than this. They have a long way to go to win back my business. So disappointing! read more

We have eaten at Primo eight or ten times. The food is very good. The staff are very friendly. When the restaurant first opened the service was excellent. However the last three times we have eaten there the service has below average. The past three times we waited and waited and waited for our server to greet us and take our drink orders. Then waited and waited for those drinks. We have been given excuses that larger than expected parties have shown up or they are short staffed. The past two times we have ordered after dinner coffees with liqueur, only to find out 15 minutes after the order was placed that they did not have what we ordered. It's fine they don't have what we ordered however it should not take so long to let us know. We are big supporters of local, small businesses and we would love to see this restaurant succeed. We have purchased gift cards for friends so they will become supporters too. However, we are comncered after our past three visits and sincerely hope the problems can be addressed. Primo has really good food and people, they just need to tweak the finer things! We will continue to support Primo. read more
