I discovered this charming spot through Yelp while on the hunt for a nice place to enjoy a good steak and some drinks. I'm so glad I made the trip. We had a wonderful time! To kick things off, we indulged in a half dozen oysters, choosing two of each variety they had, and they were simply delightful. For our main course, we shared a tomahawk steak, which turned out to be the perfect meal for two. We were seated at a cozy little table in a corner near the bar, making the space feel intimate. The service was friendly and attentive, and our server made some fantastic drink recommendations for my friend. We didn't end up trying dessert, but I have a strong feeling I'll be returning soon! read more

Food is gigantic and quite good. We got the kitchen sink brunch, omelette, and French toast. Everything was delicious and under $20 each, which seems good nowadays with inflation. We ate outside on a nice day, so had plenty of fresh air and space. Server came over four times before we were ready to order. Some people might have found this offputting but I was glad she paid attention to us. I'm so full I can barely breathe right now. The food is very rich and they don't skimp on salt or butter. The food is well prepared and of high quality. We ordered the herb whipped ricotta ($16) as a shareable appetizer and I was immediately disappointed because we saw a "pigs on a wire" come out to another table, lol. The herb whipped ricotta was great, it is served with vegetables and pita chips. I ordered the gnocchi and burrata ($32) which was perfectly cooked and delicious. I would have ordered the steak but the price is commensurate with NY Steak house prices and I just was not hungry enough to justify ordering it. Instead we saw others and it looked fantastic and ate it vicariously through them. If you are coming with meat eaters I'd recommend sharing the main steak and trying the sides. The onion rings are really onion straws which I like better. My wife had the Chilean sea bass ($54) which she liked a lot. The service was excellent and appropriately timed (a pet peeve of mine when it isn't). My only complaint was that it was loud. I don't know if I can't hear anymore or it was just loud. Got the 8oz fillet mignon and it was exceptional!!! As a true midwesterner I have high expectations for anything steak and I have to say this was one of the best fillets I've ever had and by far the best I've had west of the Mississippi. I went to Prime for the 1st time for lunch . I liked the interior but I can see over crowding can happen with the center island seating . Staff were friendly and attentive . I order the Lobster roll and my friend ordered the salmon dinner . My lobster roll was good but not great . My side of truffle fries came out kind of soggy but tasty . My friends salmon dinner was good but he mentioned his veggies tasted kind of bland . I think I want to go here for dinner to get a better feel of the resteraunt and taste more menu items . Our waiter, Gregory, was excellent. However, the chowder was inedible. It was tasteless white gravy with 3 tiny pieces of lobster. A small portion. Salmon avocado salad: salmon was dry. Dressing was fine, but for 23.00 not great overall. Almost 100.00 for two salads with protein, cup of soup and two glasses of average wine that were below average size pours. TVs were on at bar. This place is fantastic! Driving through from Massachusetts to Long Island and unable to take the ferry, and stumbled upon this place thanks to Yelp. Without a doubt one of the best meals my coworker and I have had at least in the last year. The Gnocchi being described on the menu as pillowy was literally the most perfect description. My strip steak had the most incredible crust on the outside while being the decadent mid rate I ordered. Whatever house made sauce served with it just intensified the depth of flavor. 3.5 stars.....but I'll round up to 4 stars. I was really rooting for you here, but there was some bad with the good. We walk in, cool vibe/decor and very clean appearance. We had 6:30pm reservations last night to celebrate our 9th year wedding anniversary. We were promptly seated at a table for two wedged between other parties of 3-4. Immediately we noticed it was incredibly hot inside the restaurant. We each order a Filthy Martini, the glasses we felt were smaller than the standard martini glass and we could barely taste the Ketel One. Now we're looking around and not only are we feeling hotter, but everyone around us is sticky-looking and glistening with sweat. At this point, if we can catch the waitress before she brings out our hanging bacon appetizer, we were going to ask if we could switch to sit outside instead. Of course, within moments she arrives with our app. Now we're locked in. I asked the waitress if the air was on and she said she'd ask to make sure. The hanging bacon was really delicious, but upon arrival the rosemary was not smoking as we saw it delivered to other tables. Next I ordered a glass of Malbec and my husband got an IPA. Much better choices. For dinner, I had the 7oz filet, medium with blue cheese and a side of creamed spinach. My husband ordered the 11oz filet, medium well (came with "Peter" sauce automatically apparently) and a side of the whipped mashed potatoes. Both of our steaks (although initially looked small) were cooked perfectly and very filling. The mashed potatoes were delicious, but that creamed spinach was a pretty disappointing. When I order a creamed spinach, I expect a smooth, mucky type of consistency. Here the spinach needed to be cooked far longer, was quite chewy and the cream sauce was like a thin soup and never really thickened. Boo. All of this ran us a bit over $200 (and then an additional like $40 for tip) So it was quite a pricy meal. By the end, the restaurant felt a tinge cooler. Tonight was a special dinner so we opted to try Prime on a recommendation for good steak. We started with a dz. Oysters, 3 varieties. Paired with crisp martini, the bluepoints were briny yet sweet, the Wellfleet were larger and delicious, but the Kumamoto were by far, my favorite. Service was prompt, yet comfortable and yet at one point, awkward with dishes arriving at odd moments. We chose the rib eye poached lobster tail combo with asparagus and scalloped potatoes. The decor is contemporary with an industrial starkness and comfortably lit. A freshly torched crème brûlée rounded out the meal and was tasty. With a higher than average price point, the meal met its menu description, but the anxious manager created an odd vibe. I would try them again for lunch. read more

If you're hungry as you read this, consider alternatives. Even with generous portions my clearest memory of the meal was hunger, watching the 60 minutes from order to entree arrival ratchet by. For a steak restaurant's beef I can say my burger did well, tender, satiating, the ideal amount of grease. Most of problems with the food came with their decision making, the kimchi chicken slider may be fashionable but does not actually taste good, while the Peter Luger sauce that came with the steak frites may be the worst dipping sauce in Guilford. The fries themselves were almost tasteless. Fried enough to avoid being soggy and shapeless but not enough to give them character or god forbid taste. It's like the chef considered volume, presentation, quality ingredients, advice from restauranteurs, but forgot to actually taste what they made. The ambiance is a faux rustic grey common to aspirational dining, decorations include prints of other people's pictures bought off Amazon and boxing gloves dyed to look old that have never been worn. The writing of their menu looks like it was crowd sourced from Reddit. A 90 minute meal on a Monday night in Connecticut is excessive, as is the $173 ish price tag after tips. read more

We went here during the post Thanksgiving weekend and had a great time. Dinner was good. We had fish, salads, and a steak across the 4 of us. For Guilford, this is probably the best restaurant in the area. If you are looking for a steakhouse, it is probably the only one in a 50-mile radius. Service was what you expected for this level of restaurant, and the ambiance is an upscale steakhouse style but a but more modern, which is a nice change from the old style steakhouse you come across. read more

Visited on a Friday night with a party of 5, while it was busy we were (thankfully) seated in an area where it was somewhat quiet and intimate. I liked the environment- very modern yet cozy. I forgot the name of the drink that I had (something with Ex Husband in the name) which was essentially a jalapeño margarita. It was good, definitely tasted the jalapeño, loved the balance that the tajin rim gave, I personally wished it was a little sweeter but that's just my preference. For my appetizer I decided to order 6 Wellfleet oysters. I highly enjoy them and was excited to have them but the oysters served were definitely not fresh. As soon as the platter was dropped at the table I could tell they weren't fresh from the color. A bit disappointing. For my meal I had the salmon with lemon dijon (the salmon can be prepared in 5 different ways). I enjoyed my meal, all components were enjoyable (mashed potatoes were delish!!). Overall this is a decent place, the service was great, food was good. The pricing on the menu is more high end but I'm not sure if the price is equivalent to the quality of food. read more

The Best Restaurant on the Shoreline -- Hands Down I've been to Prime more times than I can count--and that's no exaggeration. There have been days I've gone for lunch and come back for dinner, and every single visit has been nothing short of exceptional. My friends love it. My family loves it. I absolutely love it. Let me be clear: any negative review you see? Just ignore it. As someone who has probably eaten here over 100 times, I can confidently say this is the best restaurant on the shoreline. Period. I have never experienced bad service. I've never had a bad meal. I always leave full, satisfied, and occasionally pleasantly buzzed (thanks to their top-tier cocktails). From the kitchen to the bar to the servers and hosts--everything is phenomenal. I've literally tried every item on the menu, and not once has it missed. I could recite it by memory at this point. My go-to steak order (medium rare) is always cooked perfectly--they knock it out of the park every single time. And the drinks? Unreal. This was our first time going here. We went on a Saturday night. We originally had reservations at a restaurant down the street that we left because of horrific service so we came to Prime. Without a reservation, we got right in. They split a larger table in two for us on the patio and I greatly appreciated their flexibility and accommodating us. Appetizer- we had the truffle tots. There were plenty for two, the flavor was good. My only critique would be that there was too much shaved Parmesan. I love cheese but even for me, I had to dig through a layer of it to get to the tots. The dipping sauce was really good as well. Main course- I had the Benihana who with shrimp. I loved the shrimp- very well cooked and the flavor was delicious. For the price I wish I got more than 3 shrimp. The fried rice, veggies and salad were all good. The yum yum sauce was great. Plenty of food for one person. My boyfriend had the steak frites. It was your standard steak frites. He asked for medium. My only critique would be that it was more on the well done side. Dessert- the lava cake was insane. It came in the chocolate chip cookie bowl. It was incredible and plenty for two. We will be back. It is expensive. I think there may be a few things to work on. I know food is expensive but for the prices being asked, I expect a little bit more, such as more shrimp for a meal that is $34. We would recommend this place to others though. I liked Prime! I think it has potential. I have some positives and some negatives (but mostly positives). Food: I liked the food overall. Portions were good on everything. My oysters were shucked well. I loved the crab cakes. My salmon was fine, but I wish my risotto that came with it was more interesting. There was nothing in the risotto besides risotto. The real problem was that I HATED my desert (the fruit crumble). It was ONLY made with apples (no other fruit) and they didn't taste like anything. The topping was boring too. Drinks: I was sad that my aperol drink did not come in a bathtub, as advertised on the menu. If they aren't going to do bathtubs, they should edit the menu. I also thought it had a little too much aperol (and I LOVE aperol) compared to champagne. My second drink (gin) was great, but the cantaloupe garnish looked kind of tired. I like to eat my garnishes but I didn't eat this one LOL. Service and atmosphere: service was fine. I just thought the restaurant was really noisy. A special occasion sort of restaurant so it appears however the ridiculous prices for the food served is over the top. If you're running a steak house with the lowest cost steak at $52, chefs should know how to cook them. Two steaks served for my meal and both not cooked correctly. Food was salty, fish was incredibly tough, and the drinks were average. The baked potato was over the top, too much stuff, and way too salty. The chowder in the bread bowl was the only saving grace and all we ate as 3 meals had to be returned and not eaten. Place has a cool vibe but it's loud and pretentious. Good food doesn't have to be so fancy and expensive. This place is not worth the crazy price tag. I will say despite it being busy, the staff were genuinely sorry about the problems with our food and we didn't pay for the meals. Too bad we couldn't enjoy it. read more

The place has a very happening vibe. The decor is lovely and staff friendly and accommodating. There were many items of interest on the menu, but settled on the Buffalo cauliflower as an appetizer and we got the fillet and sea bass. The steak dinner was tasty. I really enjoyed the seasoning on the rice and the salad was quite delicious as well. The Seabass was flavorful and melted in your mouth. The waiter suggested the lava cake desert and we added a scoop of gelato. Definitely would come back. I would highly suggest a reservation. Our party of 4 were promptly seated per our 5PM, Tuesday reservation. Prime is located right on the Guilford Town Green. It is a popular upscale place and has a great staff of waiters/bus folk. This place is noisy...hard to have a conversation. Cocktails will run you $12-14 & a Coke will go for $4. I started with their Chowder which was about the best I've ever had, despite being served in a doughy "bread bowl". One of our party ordered the Wedge Salad which was formidable! My entree was the Steak Frites. The sliced sirloin was excellent but the fries were cold. Other entrees enjoyed by our party included the Sesame/Ginger Salmon. We didn't stay for dessert. This place is pricey and, overall, nothing to write home to Mom about. read more

Look. We're just as surprised as the rest of you that Guilford, CT not only has a spot like Prime on Whitfield, but that people are supporting it. Enthusiastically. Guilford has clearly changed. For a long time (and I'm talking 30 years that I am personally aware of) there was no food scene of any kind in Guilford. It was almost like the "anti food" town. As if the town was proud to have zero to terrible dining out options and even a very sad grocery store. Well! I'm here to tell you things have changed and it can't be a bad thing. Prime on Whitfield took over a pizza place directly on The Green in Guilford and completely redid the space. It is not large, but it is very open, bright, nice finishes. It's a fun set up. Lively, upbeat, SOCIAL. The only problem is the noise level. The place is LOUD. Ceiling is high, all surfaces are hard, there is no actual separation between bar and dining area. They have installed large, sound buffering "tiles" on the ceiling, but we still SHOUTED at each other throughout our entire meal. And it was only 3 of us. I don't think it would be possible to communicate with a larger party. Also, our reservation was 5pm on a Tuesday. By 6pm every table was full. GOOD FOR PRIME AND GUILFORD!!! That's the kind of restaurant scene you want to see! Service is a bit odd. They're new and they're busy. But they're also clearly using the extremely old school style of service: strict hierarchy (host/hostess, waiter/waitress, bussers, dining room manager lurking); and each of the waitstaff having assigned tables. I've owned a MUCH LESS formal restaurant for the past 10 yrs. I disavow this model of service because it creates bad service. When waitstaff works together, as a team, everyone gets better service. I think they might be slightly understaffed with waitstaff, since I only saw 3 on the floor. But, there was that manager, just lurking around, "managing." In a team situation EVERYONE pitches in to help and that would give them another person on the floor taking orders, running food... I had two Gin and Tonics. First one was very good. I was impressed. Second one, tonic was flat. My food: Buffalo Cauliflower App: Served with a cone of deep fried cauliflower with sides of hot sauce and bleu cheese dressing. DELICIOUS!! I mixed my sauces together and then dipped cauliflower in. Cauliflower was cut small, easy to eat, but also nice and crunchy. And since they were not sauced before being served they STAYED crunchy. Best Buffalo Cauliflower I've had. Caesar Salad: Solid Meh. I've had worse. I've had much better. I wouldn't get it again. Chilean Sea Bass: (it's never actually Chilean Sea Bass). Served with King Crab Fried Rice and Fennel Salad (only the salad never came). They seem to like to "stack" their food and create that "tower effect" which I strongly dislike. However, my food was piping hot, even though it was teetering on top of each other. My piece of fish was PERFECTION. Really fantastic. Cooked perfectly, silky texture, slightly crispy on the edges. The King Crab Fried Rice is a fail. Not good. (Mom's fried rice from her Hibachi entree was MUCH better.) Belgian Waffle Sundae: Again, someone is overly concerned with presentation. This was delicious. Says it's served with vanilla gelato. It's not, it's ice cream. Also, someone should probably investigate serving real whipped cream. The waffle tastes like awesome fried dough. Entire sundae is deconstructed, so you have to get a chunk of brownie and then try to drag everything around on the plate if you want any chocolate or caramel sauce. Meh to that presentation. Put some sauce OVER TOP of your Sundae tower. They're new. They might be working out some bugs. They're busy. If I lived nearby I would definitely frequent the bar and eat Buffalo Cauliflower and drink G & Ts! read more

We are huge fans of the location in Trumbull, Prime 111, and could not wait to try this one. It did not disappoint and was worth to 30 minute drive and will be again when we go back. Love the decor, from the light fixtures to the wide width plank floors. Rest rooms are singles, which may make for issues in the summer with the number of outdoor tables that I expect will also be full, but it will be a great location for outdoor dining on the green. Friends and family say it's been packed every night they have been. And it was the same last night. We started with the seafood tower. Fresh and more than enough for 4 people. The oysters were some of the best I've ever had, the tuna? Even my SIL ate it and she does not do raw. Large and perfect shrimp and half a lobster tail for each of us. We had so much seafood we decided to share a tomahawk steak and sides all with a great wine selection. And of course dessert, cappuccino and espresso all around. We have been to Prime On whitfield two times and every time we got the tomahawk steak for two - delicious outstanding. There is one thing that I hope the chef will consider changing the presentation. Currently the stake is sliced, but the bone is just laid over the plate. We would prefer to have the steak sliced and then put back in to where it was cut from in the steak just a little bit better presentation. read more
