The most frustrating part was not my credit score itself, but the lack of proactive guidance. Before my mortgage application, I believed my credit score was much higher than it actually was. Once my credit was pulled, it became clear that there was a significant gap between my expectations and reality. However, I was never proactively informed about the situation, its impact on my mortgage options, or potential remedies that might have been available. I later learned about rapid rescore through my own research rather than from my lender. Given my credit profile, this was something I believe should at least have been discussed. Instead, I remained unaware of important information that could have affected my decisions during a very time-sensitive period. When I later reached out with questions, I did not feel supported or educated as a first-time borrower. Conversations often felt rushed and dismissive, and I was repeatedly told that I could simply refinance later. While refinancing may be an option in the future, it is not free, effortless, or a substitute for helping borrowers understand all available options before closing. As a first-time homebuyer, I expected more proactive communication, guidance, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.

The system may call us member, but to the employees... we are just another customer. NFCU is no longer exclusive... where being a member is what is expected. NAVY FEDERAL... not Armed Forces. I digress... as I stated 28 years, and because of a check deposited (based on my knowledge) from a legit business, I have not been able to use mobile deposit in 4 years. I jumped through EVERY hoop that was put in front of me, and still cannot. So, now this is just another complaint added to the many about NFCU especially when it comes to non-White member (I SAID IT). NFCU can keep the $5 that keeps the account open. I will do business with American Express Credit Union... who also offer better rates all around. People, take this seriously, or NFCU will continue acting like BOA, Wells, and Chase... instead of being the credit union we thought they were. Oh, and I feel this must be said... nothing is more condescending when writing a review than getting a "cookie cutter" response to the issue being stated. If NFCU, genuinely gave a shit about their "members", 1) These complaints wouldn't be her and 2) They would actually provide a real genuine apology and for those that matter a legitimate contact number to personnel capable of resolving the issue. No one, and I mean NO ONE submitting a negative reviews cares about NFCU's social media crap... especially as a response. This is business and people's lives being affected. I am so mad at the review responses that I just turned 2 star to a 1 star.

TLDR: The Tuttle Group utterly astounded us with an effortless, friendly, speedy, and (believe it…read moreor not) FUN refinance as self-employed individuals when no one else wanted to help. We decided to refinance our home to make some improvements and clear out some high-interest debt. We assumed (erroneously) that our credit union, which had held the current mortgage for 15 years plus our bank accounts and car notes, and a flawless history of payments with them, would have no trouble refinancing us, even though we are now self-employed, and making 3x what we made when they initially approved us. ***WRONG!!!*** After literally MONTHS of asking for documents, changing rates, long delays waiting for info from underwriting, and unanswered questions, we finally abandoned them in search of unconventional financing routes. We looked specifically for brokers in the area who specialize in self-employed people, and found a few. Some seemed a bit "green," some sounded less than friendly or just weren't interested in a smaller refi. But Tatiana with the Tuttle Group was super friendly when she reached out, and helped us arrange a video consultation with Andy Tuttle, the wizard of the Tuttle Group. During the 30 minutes that Andy spoke with us, it was like a crash course in financial planning. Everything he said made so much sense, and we learned more about mortgage refinancing than MONTHS of online research and questions we had asked to our credit union. Andy was up-front and told us that our best option might, indeed, be to go with the offer our credit union had finally extended, and that he might not be able to beat it. Still, he took the time to explain how refinancing in this "terrible Fed-rate" era could be financially advantageous to us, and told us to check once more with our credit union to see their final terms and if they were still locked in. I was astounded that he would take that kind of time to talk to a customer he likely wouldn't get any money from. We decided to proceed with the Tuttle Group, even if they couldn't offer us a better rate, simply because it was a PLEASURE dealing with them, they treated us like family, and everything Andy said made such good sense. Throughout the 2-ish weeks that ensued, their awesome mortgage gal Annie checked in with us regularly to make sure all our questions were answered. They seemingly required FAR less documentation than anyone else. But their stated tactic was to present a perfect, iron-clad package to underwriting up-front, so that there would be an instant approval and there wouldn't be a need for further questions or documentation. (Imagine that???) In what seemed like the blink of an eye, we were approved and ushered through closing. We simply could not be more impressed with the Tuttle Group. We've helped numerous friends and family through the mortgage process, and it's always like being put through a medieval torture device. This is the first time getting approved and closing was a PLEASURE. We NEVER had to contact them for questions, because they were always checking in to make sure all ours were answered. They were super friendly, familiar, informal-yet-professional, and we always felt like they had our backs and had everything under control. We actually looked forward to their calls and emails...imagine that??? Even though were were looking for a silly, small refinance and shouldn't have been worth their time, we felt like we had called up a dear family member who gave us the "hook up" our situation clearly didn't warrant. Astounded. Impressed. Thrilled. Grateful. These are some of the things we feel after our experience with the Tuttle Group. And I have absolutely no doubt your experience will leave you feeling the same.

I worked with customer representative Ashley and she was as helpful as she could be. She referred me to branch manager Chris. I had called the toll free line several times trying to resolve issue, thus my case was well documented. When Chris attempted to help me, I became very frustrated that he did not care what a member was experiencing but what was documented. As I tried to explain the situation, Chris resulted to the same tactic I received from the toll free number, my check was on hold for security purposes (but I showed proof check had cleared). The other institution had a hold on it (but you had already made partial funds available). I was told that I had never done a mobile deposit to NFCU (I produced check that was mobile deposited and proof from other institution NFCU had indeed processed check). Told I should I reach out to my previous financial institution to get proof the check had cleared, I became really angry because as a member I should not have to gather proof, when NFCU was holding the bulk of my deposit. After Chris contacted the other institution and confirmed check had cleared, he then preceded to release the funds to my savings account, be mindful, I had a balance 3-4 times the amount of the check I was originally trying to deposit. Frustrated because it was my money, I left the institution without further words, only to be met upon exit from Chris, with a very sarcastic "you are welcome." I am welcome? It's my money and I was simply trying to get it released for the deposit. The frustrating, conflicting answers (from toll free number), and time to visit a branch location didn't warrant a thank you. When you are servicing a member, you should always be attentive, helpful, and open to their needs. While this institution and location is very convenient to my home, but being a disabled veteran, I will continue to evaluate my standing as a "member" to determine if this is indeed the credit union for my financial needs. And if anybody in this institution tries to say I was argumentative, rude, or disrespectful, on the phone calls, release the audio or the video at this location as evidence to support your claim.
