We ordered the tuna salad and veggie sandwiches. The veggie sandwich had a thick layer of pesto and the tuna salad was mixed with a variety of seasonings, so that both were strongly flavored (if a little homogenous) with every bite. Both stayed warm and the bread stayed crispy, even after takeout. The sandwich game is strong, but even more notable is the owner who goes out of his way to make customers feel welcome. While we were there, a senior came in needing to use a bathroom and not speaking much English. The owner readily made the "Not For Customers" restroom available. And when a leashed dog stopped by, he came out from behind the counter with cuts of deli meat as treats. The sandwiches lean heavy here -- you can watch them brush oil over the bread before toasting -- so plan to split or save the second half for dinner. But be sure to stop in: the owner makes the shop a neighborhood institution.

There were cuts that melted in your mouth, skin that was gummy and chewy, and the bread crispy on the outside but soft on the inside (similar to a chicken bake) which complimented the softer textures well. The staff were super friendly and service was fast considering how busy they were. After walking in and ordering my food came out in about 10-15 minutes. Their sandwiches average around 17 dollars, which I know is really steep, but the quality is seriously top tier and the portion for this sandwich was insanely generous. Luckily for me it's my cheat day so this visit was definitely a treat. I'm coming back for sure.

I had a difficult time choosing a sandwich because there were so many that sounded good, but ultimately settled on "The Wentino" ($16.00) -- Genoa Salame, Hot Italian Capicola, Mortadella, Provolone, Mayo, Tomato, Olive Spread, Lettuce, on an herb roll, with extra mortadella for an additional $3.00. $21.04 after tax, before tip. My sandwich was ready in minutes. While Weslo's doesn't have seating inside, they share a space with Loard's Ice Cream, which has plenty of counter seats that you're allowed to dine at. One bite into the sandwich and I knew Weslo's was my new favorite sandwich spot. The bread here has such an incredible texture and tastes like it was just baked fresh out of the oven. The herb roll has a thin, but crunchy crust, and the inside is light, fluffy, and flavorful. I'll need to find out where they source their bread because it's honestly better than some expensive sourdough loaves that I've had from bakeries. There's a generous about of olive tapenade on both sides of the bread, and because the bread is so nicely toasted, it doesn't get soggy at all and holds up well to the mountain of ingredients on the inside. The deli meats here are sliced thin, and there's plenty of it. I'm certain even those with big appetites will be satisfied after finishing up a sandwich here. In addition to the bread and the meat, every element of the sandwich was thoughtfully and carefully prepared here. The tomatoes and lettuce were both cut uniformly, stacking order of ingredients was optimal, and the ingredients had the perfect balance, where the saltiness of the cured meats and tapenade were offset by the freshness of the vegetables. I can't recommend Weslo's enough. People online are always talking about OK's Deli and The Saint down the street as their favorite sandwich spots in the East Bay, but these folks have to stop by Weslo's to check it out.
