Primavera is a pretty, old house in croton falls, NY that My family has frequented for over 50 years. Went tonite with close friends for a preholiday dinner. The food was acceptable Albanian AKA Italian pricey, but I can't begin to explain the awful service. As I walked into the foyer and was looking into the restaurant, I heard someone kinda barking at someone else. Turns out it was the coat check madam sitting in a lounge chair yelling to me, " lady, wanna check your coat? After waiting fifteen minutes without any attention I got up from our table and asked a waitstaff person for the wine list. After a bit, my husband got up and asked if we were being ignored, we wanted to place a drink order. ( as an aside, one wine was about 7/8 oz., the same for someone else about 4/5 oz.) Ok, mediocre wine delivered, told waiter we wanted to order. The guys got apps, lobster bisque cool in a hot bowl ( microwave it a little longer). My lady friend got a pasta dish, the head guy asked if she'd like Parmesan, she said yes. I think he was just curious because no Parm ever came. ( I got up and picked up a dish of Parmesan off the service bar for her, no one noticed.) My date and I would have shared a glass of wine with dinner, but no one came by to ask if the food was ok or if we'd like anything else. After sitting around for another ten minutes or longer I got up and asked for the check . Bottom line, food is Ok ,not very good and service is up to you! Ridiculous. We were polite, well dressed and the restaurant wasn't busy on a Tuesday night. read more

We went to Primavera with another couple who had just moved in from out of town. We were very very disappointed. First off when we were looking at the specials menu for the evening. the appetizers we about to order was more expensive than the menu (watch out)were missed marked and we're more expensive than what it was priced at on the menu. When we asked the waiter about it, he pretty much said oh well. Then my husband and I saw the chili's Seabass with a light tomato sauce with clams on top m. My dish came with one single clam, and my husband's dish came with two single clams on top. Menu is very misleading, and very expensive for what you get. Stay away. We are a couple that goes out to eat very frequently and our recommendation to you is find somewhere else. read more

I have been here several times over the past few years and every time I go I promise myself it will be the last time. The food is decent for the area, but severely overpriced. I keep trying to eat here because they are the only place around that has a decent veal chop. However, the last time my boyfriend and I went for his birthday (I'm 30 yo woman and was paying) the maitre de recognized us and was extremely welcoming. That's where it went down hill. There were only about 10 other diners in the whole place, yet it took 10 minutes to get drinks (vodka on the rocks, hard to pour, I know) and another 10 to get any bread or server. Then we ordered an appetizer that was disgusting and ordered our veal chops well done. The past few times I've ordered the veal chops they have been red and bloody in the middle, so I made sure to order them well done to avoid sending them back. We got our nasty app and then the snotty server came back over with menus saying there were no veal chops left. This after he specifically told us several items that the restaurant was out of BEFORE we placed our order, none of them being the veal chop, in fact he mentioned a special that included the veal chop. I find it very very hard to believe that they ran out as we were the last people to order our entrees in the place. More likely, either the chef didn't want to spend the time to cook them the way we wanted or remembered us sending them back a few times earlier because they were under cooked. I was footing the bill and treated awfully. This was not the first time, as on New Year's Eve I made a reservation for 4 at 10pm (that was the earliest they had) and then was told that a party ran over and they wouldn't be able to seat us (including a 9 y/o and 13 y/o) for another hour. Two gross pounded veal thingies, covered in brown sauce with two pieces of asparagus and two drinks later I paid my 100 dollar bill and vowed to NEVER return. read more

My husband and I love to go on random drives. We would just pack up the car and drive up north. We live in NYC and we live to get out of the city once in a while to a place less chaotic. On our drive we had came across a farm where we asked if there were any restaurants near by. The man had told us that Primavera was a great place to eat at. So we decided to go and give it a try. I must say the restaurant looks beautiful on the outside and inside. As soon as we walked we were seated. Everything was going great. But then I started to notice that the waiter was treating us different compared to the other couple that was there. The waiter seem to give the other couple more service than us. As soon as we finished eating he rushed us our bill. We weren't even offered dessert or coffee but the other couple were offered dessert coffee and wine. I felt like the waiter was judging us and I didn't like that one bit. The food was great and my husband wants to visit again but I don't since the services was horrible. I'll get give it a try again. Hopefully next time we'll be treated the same as the others. read more

Terrible. The restaurant was ice cold. Service was awful. Nobody seemed to care. It took over 20 minutes for someone to stroll over and take our order. Never offered cocktails. The bus boy continually asked if we wanted our water filled. After crashing out entries down on the table, no one came back to ask if everything was okay. Actually no one came back after we were finished for at least another 20 minutes. We could not believe it. We were interested in coffee and dessert but decided we didn't have another hour to spare. We had some delicious takeout from Primavera last night. This restaurant doesn't typically do takeout during normal times-but it really was good. We are regular patrons of Primavera, and found that what we got last night traveled well; our family of four had two different veal dishes, a ravioli dish and grilled salmon, as well as beet salad, crab cakes and a hot antipasto-it ended up being too much food, but we were all really happy with our dishes. Had a reservation for last night that I made a week ago and requested a table on the porch. They told me it should be no problem at all. When we arrived we were met by the owner who said there were no table but he could set one up by the parking lot for us or we could eat unside. He couldn't provide a table on the porch as we were led to believe would be possible. He was NOT at all apologetic, in fact, he was nasty, condescending and dismissive. He was absolutely awful. I should have heeded the reviews more carefully. What's interesting about the reviews is that they are either outstanding or horrible. So since I dine out quite often I decided to give the stellar reviews the benefit of my doubt. Wrong!! Initially the service was very good upon being seated and our orders being taken. After that it was a disaster. When our meal came out the waiter served the wrong entrees. Had no idea what each of us had initially ordered. He got every one wrong and we had to point out to him who ordered each entree. He didn't get one correct. We then had to wait for our waiter to appear so we could ask for parmigian cheese for our pasta. Every other Italian restaurant automatically offers the cheese when the entree is delivered. Service was a disaster after our initial order was taken. The food was mediocre at best. As one reviewer put it Olive Garden quality. We ordered the banana/strawberry flambé for desert and that was a total disaster. Waited twenty minutes for it to arrive and it was uneatable. The bananas tasted like plantains. There were no strawberries. The desert was laced with strawberry jam. This desert was a massive rip off. However, the only saving grace was that when we informed our waiter he was very accommodating and removed the charge from our bill. That's why I gave them one star. Moral of this review is heed the negative reviews. Next time you want a great Italian meal for 30% less visit Dante's in Mahopac behind the Acme super market and for steak and fish Barnwood Grill in Somers. I really do not understand why they have received so many five star reviews. The food is extremely mediocre and way over priced. Ordered take out yesterday to support this business during this pandemic. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary so wanted to order from an upscale restaurant. The food was great, but the entrees (overpriced) came with not a single side. I understand the menu did not list that other things were included, but to pay over $20 for a single piece of chicken parm only is a little outrageous. I am grateful that we ordered an appetizer and a soup because otherwise we would have been still hungry. Other restaurants during this time are offering so much more to their customers. Very pleasant atmosphere in the bar. We were then seated in a room that was not the main dining room, and the lighting in the room was a rather dreary, cafeteria white. Ask for the main dining room; it seemed much warmer in tone. Delicious antipasto at both bar ( cozy and friendly) and table. Food? Hmmm. For our group, we found it too sauced- long stemmed artichokes in some whitish sauce - seemed a waste of the beautiful fresh artichokes. Main dishes ok, but also too sauced, for us. After driving past the place many times my wife and I decided to finally try Primavera and we were not disappointed. The host was a very nice man and the place has a warm charm to it. The staff was attentive at first but over time this became an issue for me I need to keep the refills on beverages rolling and nobody was even looking at me after a while. The food was outstanding from the start to finish. Top quality and you may pay a tad bit more than some Italian places but you do get what you pay for here. Great bang for the buck. Leave you with a very pleasant taste in your mouth and man are we stuffed. We will be back 100% the only thing I wish could improve is refill my drink when its empty and we will be here weekly! So on Christmas day we had reservations at 3:30 the restaurant was closed, there goes Christmas Dinner with family. On December 26 I called to speak to someone in charge explaining what happened. The person on the phone told me the owner would call me back. Today is December 28 and still no word from these people. If you want to be treated like crap I suggest you go to this establishment. At my in-laws invitation my favorite foodie and I ventured to the Hudson Valley (NY)during restaurant week. A charming private residence built in 1864 now converted to this Italian restaurant was our destination tonight. Our meal began with an excellent recommendation of wine by our waiter, Joe, who shared with us one his favorite wines; the Indaba 2015 Chardonnay. Next we ordered the calamari and little neck stuffed clams. The calamari was light and perfectly cooked. The clams oreganotta were tender and cooked to perfection. Our entrees (all from the restaurant week menu)were nothing shy of perfection. Buttery filet mignon, perfectly seared salmon, chicken parmigiana and Pollo Piedmontese (chicken breast on a bed of spinach). All 4 meals were delicious. Last but not least was dessert. 3 Italian cheese cakes and 1 Tiramisu completed our meal. Service was super attentive and the quaint ambience wrapped up this dinner with family as one of my favorite evenings. Go enjoy the views, the amazing food and do take family. I've learned to read the posts on Yelp and distinguish between which are accurate and helpful and those who complain about price only. Props to Andrew G. when we arrived and had a reservation they seated us in the main dining room, I asked for the side room and was gladly accommodated, it was great nice and quiet and as 2 couples we enjoyed being able to hear each other and not have to yell. I ordered the escargot which I thought was plentiful, the sauce as Andrew described it was "earthy", I prefer traditional garlic and oil but it was fine.Thanks to Ken S. who mentioned the non-priced specials, I did ask and interestingly the waiter didn't know the prices, the maitre di came over and gave us the pricing, somewhat expensive, but not out of reach (almost though considering quality). On to the food, my friend had the double cut veal chop, tasty enough and well cooked but it was not tender at all...disappointing. I had the veal and mushroom dish which was well prepared the sauce a trifle heavy for delicate veal and the veggies not seasoned well, sorta bland and sliced carrots...really? My wife's veal dish was okay...btw thanks to Lesi W. (Average Italian...spot on) Almost forgot the apps, I was so engrossed in my escargot. The salads are average at best, nothing over the top interesting, the grilled calamari special was really good, if I were to go back (not quite sure yet) I'd order that. Coconut shrimp were nice and very plump. We had 2 great bottles of wine, my friend is a wine merchant and he picked, one Italian and one California...sorry I forgot the names. Desert we shared the cannoli and cheese cake, cannoli A++ thanks again Andrew G. the cheese cake, Eh not so much. All in all the price was 100.00/person, I think that is reasonable with apps, 2 bottles of wine and 2 shared deserts. We arrived around 7:20 for our 7:30 reservation and were ushered into the bar area where we had a drink (or 2) for approximately 30 minutes. We finally addressed the Maitre D' and were seated within 10 minutes. It seemed like he forgot we were there! The prices here are not cheap which made me question the service. The waiter didn't seem to realize that the ladies should be addressed first, food placement, and plate removal, even though there was plenty of room around the table left me in the servers and bus boys arm pit. The food arrived warm but not fresh and hot. It was over sauced and soggy. I could not distinguish between cheese and chicken, it all had 1 flavor . . . whatever the sauce was. Overall with the beautiful location it seems as they feel nobody in this area has anyplace else to go. I on the other hand drove 45 minutes to meet somebody halfway and am sure next time I'll either convince them to come further this way, or I'll drive further north near them. I'm a little surprised by the favorable reviews. Maybe it's because I went on a Monday and it was a different chef; for the price, nothing came close to wowing me. The soft shell crab was fresh and meaty but unfortunately lacked flavor and seasoning with a bed of tasteless spinach. The pasta was too chewy and dense and the sauce bland and the consistency of a bisque. The walnut pair salad was decent but I'm not really going for the salad. I really want to love this place because the front of house staff is very gracious and the setting is very lovely. But the food is subpar (fish was overcooked to a state of mush; no seasoning in the shrimp avocado salad whatsoever; and a heavy cognac sauce overwhelmed the escargot). There are so few restaurants in the area that offer the beautiful ambiance of Primavera, but unfortunately the chef's lack of skill or care leaves one truly disappointed in the experience. Primavera has the absolute worst management in the restaurant business!!!!! They do not honor reservations made (months in advance) for a large group and then are rude and nasty about it when questioned. The reservations were confirmed on 3 occasions prior and each time it was sure no problem you're all set. If you don't honor the reservation that's one thing, to be nasty about it is bad business! I would not recommend this place when ownership has an attitude like this restaurant does. Shame on them. read more

My family and I went here tonight to celebrate my sister's birthday and we had a lovely time. We made a reservation for the five of us. There is a valet and coat check and we were then seated immediately. Service was prompt and our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. While it was crowded (it was a Saturday night), the atmosphere was still relaxed and calm. I had the Penne Vodka, which was delicious! The food is on the pricier side but it is authentic and you're paying for great service. Make sure you make a reservation since it gets crowded. We would come back! read more

Dishonest Owner. They refused to take a $50 Gift Certificate because it was 2-1/2 years old even after they said they would when I called before our reservation. The certificate had no expiration date and was issued by them ( not a plastic card). Further research has shown me that a law was passed by Congress in 2009 making gift certificates good for at least 5 years. They took someone's cash - made interest on it for over two years and then refused to honor it. Very BAD BUSINESS decision. I have lived here for 30 years and have bought family, clients and friends here for years. I can no longer frequent a place with such awful business practices. read more

The food was "good," but thats about it. The wine was reasonably priced and the portions were average. The shrimp they used were very small for the price they charged. The atmosphere is very rustic, which i can appreciate, but in this case it was a little too "rustic," it basically outdated and old.
