Pedi points I loved: This was the owner-operated, quiet, non assembly line, calm, clean, no shared recirculating jet water (clean new bowl of water each time) type place that I look for. No "cheese grater" callous remover, great massage, offered water or tea and even a snack (that might be just happenstance that day) and magazines, no jabbing/poking with tools, clearly experienced, very soft music (not annoying- mostly quiet and relaxing), no one else around so I loved the peace and quiet. She also does confirmation calls the day before, which I think shows extra professionalism and that she books up fully. Might be tough to find the place at first by map apps, worst case just park on Oak St and wander the south side alley halls and she's down at the very end of the east walkway. Only thing I'd change is being that I weigh more and she weighs less, that rolling pedicure straddle bench on the smooth floor was slightly uncomfortable (unless u can lock the wheels?) because it's hard to keep my feet up on it without pushing her away lol. People who have done lots of non-massage chair pedis might know what I mean. But that's nothing. This was perfect.

The filing and drilling job was a mess - I asked for rounded nails and ended up with extreme-filed almond nails at first, turned into somewhat rounded nails after I asked multiple times for them to be more rounded and centered. On most nails, the sides are so intensely filed that it exposes the skin under my nail, and two nails started to bleed early on the sides on in the appointment. When drilling, she didn't seem to have any attention to detail and repeatedly went over the nail onto the skin. I would've walked out if I wasn't heading out of town tomorrow - I didn't realize how bad it was until I got outside. I first asked for a 10 nail design which she said yes to, but then seemed to backtrack/not be interested in doing even if I was willing to pay. I asked several times if she had time/if it was okay and she kept saying yet. She had me pick colors before starting anything else, and we took about 10 minutes for this. She then started drilling and said she wasn't a good artist and didn't know how good the design would look, so I showed her this design which she called "easy." I ended up with a version of it, but as you can see in the photos, the flower petals are in no way uniform in shape or size across each finger. If equipment was cleaned between clients, there was no sign of it. Everything seemed to come from the same 2 dust-covered containers. Really disappointed.

I go to Velvet Files 1-2 times a year for special occasions. Their sugar scrubs feel amazing! The prices are rough...I save up! it's a beautiful vibe inside and everyone has been lovely to me each visit. I got gel nails done by Salem once and several of them lifted and peeled the next day and I was able to go back and have those ones redone with no charge and with apologies from the manager. Owning up to mistakes (they happen everywhere) is important. That is the only instance that has happened with gel nails, so it was more about the application and is not their standard. Favorite Nail tech: BAILEY. She deserves her own 5 stars. she is good at her job, easy to talk to, made time to do a last minute polish change for me, and also doesn't mind if you read the whole time either. I smudged a nail an hour or so after my appt once (they felt dry but hey, mistakes happen like I said), and I sheepishly turned around and asked if Bailey could fix the one nail. Like a total rockstar she did, even making sure the color was right after I pulled the wrong one off the shelf. Bailey is the kind of tech you hope stays forever just so you can go see her for her services! Highly recommend, and be generous with your tips. One thing I think is helpful to know is their polish takes an hour to dry unless you buy Dazzle Dry, which is an extra $5 per service. (yes I did dazzle dry on that one nail that got smudged an hour later by my debit card, but debit cards and pretty rough surfaces.) So go ahead and budget dazzle dry in.

I am new to Northern Colorado, and looked for a nail artist…read morethat matched my old artist for hours, found one here through looking at reviews, and made an appointment with her specifically, even came later than I originally wanted. I like complex nails and wanted someone who wouldn't be intimidated and could achieve what I was looking for. I called to confirm the appointment was with this specific person a week ago, they said it was. I drove nearly an hour because her expertise seemed worth it. As I am nearly to the salon, I get 2 back to back calls asking if booking with her was a mistake, and to call back if it was. I arrived, they once again asked me if it was a mistake, I said no it wasn't. They told me okay, figured that was that. They put me with someone else anyway without telling me. I figured she was just getting my nails prepped, then I'd switch to who I asked for when she was ready. Nope, she did the whole thing, while noticeably uncomfortable with the design I wanted, as I watched the girl I requested take a different client. She did her best, but they're not even close to what I wanted, not even color. The shape and application is average for any salon. She rushed off to her next client before I was able to look at them fully finished. I was getting a pedicure so I figured I would have her fix them or at least do something to make it a bit better for me when she was done with that client. Instead she brought me my receipt, said they were already done and that she had to go, so I basically got stuck leaving with nails I hated. I'm primarily frustrated because at any point during the week I could've been contacted regarding scheduling, I would've been happy to move it to another day, or another time to remain with the tech I wanted. I went to every length to ensure I would have who I wanted, and only when I was already an hour away from home and sat in a random techs chair did I learn that wasn't happening. I spent near $150 on nails I'm replacing at a different salon tomorrow
