Lots of local love there and, it was great to see! Also, not a tiny gas station either! It's called a GROCER, for a reason! They have tons of drinks selections, fruits, veggies, cheeses, frozen foods and everything else! It's great and all of the staff are super sweet and kind! Hope you check them out and grab some specials! Cheers!

This market is farther than Evergreen Asian Market from where I live, but I prefer to stop here…read morefirst for what I need. There is an amazing selection of meat, fish, and vegetables here. Every time I visit, I pick up a fruit or vegetable that I haven't tried before. Today it was a small Korean melon with bright yellow skin. The guys who work the fish counter are personable and knowledgeable. The man who helped us made a good suggestion for the type of fish to use in a soup, and didn't grumble when, near closing, he had to start up the equipment to cut it for us. The parking lot can be busy but I just choose to park farther away from the door. Also, try to go during an off hour--the veggie section (and the store in general) can get crowded. I suggest stopping by the deli section at the front of the store to see what treats are available. Last time I tried a tasty steamed cake wrapped in banana leaf. Another tip is to jump on specials as soon as you see them. I'm still kicking myself for not picking up an entire pack of oxtails for 1.99 a pound. I went back a few days later and they were gone. I still bought oxtails, for up to $2.00 less a pound than other stores. Lastly, double check the expiration dates on prepackaged foods. Every once and a while you'll find one that is past it's prime.

However, you will notice it with its red and white striped facade and boxes of fruit and vegetables at the entrance. There is ample parking, but located on a busy section of State Avenue. The market offers fresh produce (vegetables, papaya, oranges); meats as well as cooked food four days a week. They have carnitas (meat and skin) and a spicy beef dish. They also carry baked goods (bread, pastries, cookies) along with packaged sweets (guava rolls, milk candies). Of course, what grocery would not be complete without canned, bottled and packaged food (Tajin, mayonesa, la lechera and Goya products). You will also find gift items, piniatas and party items. The two gentlemen who work here are extremely helpful, friendly and speak English (that really helps when my Spanish is rusty). They even suggest recipes and cooking tips.

BEWARE: We were charged an additional "store tax" on top of the state tax…read more I'm very disappointed with my experience today. We purchased 7 tamales that were advertised at $2.99 each, but at checkout we were charged $3.29 each. When we asked about the price difference, the explanation we received was that the extra charge was a "store tax", in addition to the separate $2.28 state tax shown on the receipt. The explanation was unclear and did not make sense, especially because the receipt shows the $3.29 as the item price and then separately charges $2.28 in state tax. The price displayed for an item should match what customers are charged at checkout. We kept the receipt and photos of the items purchased and will be reporting the issue to the appropriate consumer agency. I'm sharing this so other customers can be aware and pay close attention to the prices and taxes being charged at checkout. If they are charging this additional "store tax" on tamales, I'm pretty sure they are applying the same charge to all products throughout the store as well.

A friend recommended Carniceria Los Compadres in Everett, WA, and it did not disappoint. This store is a good size and offers a wide variety of selections. There's a Taqueria in the back, where you can order delicious food, and a butcher that provides all sorts of different cuts of meat. The fresh produce section is well-stocked, and you can find everything you need to make authentic dishes. I decided to try the Taqueria and ordered several different tacos and a tamale. The tacos were particularly impressive, with the shells crisped to perfection. The pork tamale was also quite tasty. As they do make fresh tortillas you're able to call in and request the size and how many you're looking for in the morning. Overall, Carniceria Los Compadres is a great spot for anyone looking for authentic Mexican ingredients and dishes in the Everett area.
