You know how it's often said that they best places to eat are the ones you stumble on randomly? Well, that is precisely what happened here. And to have a local walk in and the owner ask "I'll get your order started, grab your usual seat" without the person saying anything definitely instilled confidence before we even had our food.
On a recent trip to London and Dublin, my friends and I opted to take a train from London to the ferry to Dublin. This turned into quite the adventure as we got stuck on a 4 hour delay in Holyhead due to a major storm, and as a result we struck out from the ferry terminal to find a place to eat. After stumbling into this restaurant, the 8 of us all order fish and chips. The owner very quickly took up to making them all, while striking up very friendly conversation.
As for the food, this was the best fish and chips I had during my time in the UK, hands down. The fish was fresh, and the owner hand-batters it to order; the chips are also freshly fried and not sitting warmed waiting to be used. The fish filet was large, probably close to 10-12 inches long (25-30cm) and cooked perfectly so it was flaky and not "rubbery." The batter was excellent, very crispy and a nice light flavor to compliment the fish.
If you ever find your way to the UK, a day-trip to Holyhead with a stop into this restaurant will surely not disappoint! read more
