You know how it's often said that they best places to eat are the ones you stumble on randomly?…read moreWell, that is precisely what happened here. And to have a local walk in and the owner ask "I'll get your order started, grab your usual seat" without the person saying anything definitely instilled confidence before we even had our food. On a recent trip to London and Dublin, my friends and I opted to take a train from London to the ferry to Dublin. This turned into quite the adventure as we got stuck on a 4 hour delay in Holyhead due to a major storm, and as a result we struck out from the ferry terminal to find a place to eat. After stumbling into this restaurant, the 8 of us all order fish and chips. The owner very quickly took up to making them all, while striking up very friendly conversation. As for the food, this was the best fish and chips I had during my time in the UK, hands down. The fish was fresh, and the owner hand-batters it to order; the chips are also freshly fried and not sitting warmed waiting to be used. The fish filet was large, probably close to 10-12 inches long (25-30cm) and cooked perfectly so it was flaky and not "rubbery." The batter was excellent, very crispy and a nice light flavor to compliment the fish. If you ever find your way to the UK, a day-trip to Holyhead with a stop into this restaurant will surely not disappoint!

Having walked in we stated we had a table booked to which they guided us at the back out the way which suited us fine. The menu held a combination of asian style dishes to fish and chips. To start I chose one of three cocktails ( a strawberry daiquiri) and my friend the calamari . The cocktail was the best part of the meal and apparently the calamari tasted fresh. For mains , between us we ordered fish and chips, katsu chicken with summer veg and hake in a sauce. All of these cost around £14 each. When the food arrived our hearts sank. The battered fish was soggy on top of frozen chips. As for the summer veggie on the side this consisted of tomatoes and salad with a bit of breaded chicken..rice and a small pot of katsu. As for my hake it tasted like one of those boil in a bag. Frozen potatoes oh but the sweet peas were nice. Throughout the meal we were constantly asked if we wanted anymore drinks despite having full vessles. At the end we were forgotten about so walked up to pay. The meal came to £70 which I think is steep for Iceland like food. I'd pop in for a drink to sit and enjoy the view, as for the food I wouldn't dare risk it again.

They were for some reason playing an exclusively REM playlist that I really enjoyed because of how out-of-place it felt. Service was friendly. Service, as in many spots in the UK and Ireland, is not as attentive as we are used to in the states, but because this was universally my experience in these rainy islands (you have to quite literally chase them down if you want a refill on water or to get your check), I won't dock them any points.
