When I talked to the lady on the phone, I was told installed and old one removed would cost between 1100 and 1200. So I set up a appointment when she gave me that price. The install itself is great. They did a good and quick job. Was happy with their work. Was handed a bill of 1556 after they finished the install was completed. Called the office to see if something else was needed or something that would justify the other 300. Was told at that time the cheapest 50gal they had is 1495 installed which is what I was billed for. Had I been given the correct info in the first place I would of went with a different contractor. They asked if I possibly mixed up my quotes, which no, I got the quote and made the appointment all in the same phone call. Was told they would "make it up" to me on future service. No, I won't use them again after this. If Iowa law would allow it, I would tell them to come and take it back out. Get a written quote from them or you might have a surprise. He says Brian or he will be there when he says he will. They offer good quality products and stands behind their work. The service man did a terrible job of troubleshooting the problem, assuming it was a bad ignitor. Making that assumption that was the only part he brought to the house. After making the repair he came upstairs to tell me that wasn't the problem and he'd have to go back to the shop to get another part. About 45 minutes later he arrives with a gas valve to replace. Once that was replaced I had a working water heater again. I asked if he put the old ignitor back in, which he hadn't, claiming it was going to fail eventually anyway and it would be more of an expense to put the old one back. I told him I didn't want to pay for parts that weren't bad. He said he would talk to his supervisor about it. I finally got the bill on 5-2-2016 with an invoice date of 12-2-2015. They charged me full amount for the ignitor and gas valve and charged me labor for both, for a total of just shy of $500. A couple hundred more could have bought me a new installed water heater. Terrible service, terrible troubleshooting, terrible craftsmanship.

This is what they had originally agreed to do the first time. I have been debating whether three stars is too kind in this instance as they have successfully completed the maintenance they were originally suppose to complete. Only charging us labor this time discredits the time that we previously lost coordinating our schedules and then needing to re coordinate when they called back to reschedule. I understand that mistakes do happen, and credit them for coming back. I am leaving the original comments below because the frustration is real. "We purchased our house two years ago and were told the AC unit was under warranty. We had our annual check completed last week where we discovered the AC turbine was broken and needed to be repaired. We did not know who installed the unit so I used the serial number to track the part from the distributor in Waterloo. I contacted LINS Heating & Air Conditioning and they confirmed that they installed the unit and that it would be under warranty. Fast forward to the technician showing up and taking an hour to tell us that the maintenance would not be covered and we would need to pay $130 to cover the hour it took to do nothing. I called the office and they said they were sorry for the trouble but they would accept the warranty and they would not charge for the first hour where nothing was completed. Shortly after that the owner of the company called me to say he was going to "intervene" with our problem. He informed me that they would not be covering the parts under warranty because it was clearly stated on the invoice that was given to the previous owners that their company needed to be the one to complete the annual inspection for the unit to remain under warranty. The entire experience lacked any form of customer service and I would not recommend them to anyone. To have them tell us two separate times that the maintenance would be covered and then have the owner not take any responsibility was frustrating.If they have already installed anything in your home I would recommend getting a home warranty to help cover maintenance cost when it inevitably breaks."

Marc sent his technician Shane out to diagnose the problem: a cracked heat exchanger that prevented the unit from firing up. Marc was able to locate a replacement but had to drive to Davenport early the next morning, through sub-zero temperatures and terrible driving conditions, to pick it up. Federal Express and UPS had shut down due to the bad weather. The same day, after the county maintainer finally cleared our rural road, Shane came back out to install it. Thanks to Lins, we have heat again! We really appreciate their going out of their way to get us back to a safe situation. Thank you very much!
