There are many online CPR courses which I did take but were not valid when I submitted it to the state. I took the class with Francisco the owner which is prior military and firefighter. From day one it was really easy to get a hold of him and to arrange for the class. I got lucky that my class ended up being just me so I got to ask any questions I had and Francisco would gladly answer them. The whole experience was an easy and very insightful. Under normal circunstances, I would take the course, free of charge, at work, but Covid has taken this training online. I tried to hunker down and get this done, but I am obviously not a candidate for online life saving, because 1) I can't save a life on a computer and 2) I don't want to/cannot spend a crazy amount of time in front of a screen. It simply does not compute. I met Derek Walters when he was visiting a friend who was a patient in the hospital where I work. I learned he was an RN and he owned this company. He gave me his card, I tucked it away because I knew I was going to need it. I registered and paid for the class online, $60. At this particular class, there was only one other attendee, another health care professional. The facility is clean and open, with plenty of room to move freely. Derek is engaging, funny and light. He explained in detail all that is required, to pass the test and obtain certification. He used real life examples to get the lessons across.. His manequins were top of the line, easy to use for practice and demonstration. Derek made this class super fun. I can see he offers this service because of his love for the profession and his strong desire to give back to the community. I will not hesitate to come back in 2 years to recertify and I will tell everyone I know to skip the computer training. The Lasting Compressionss course is well worth the cost, even wthen facility training is free. AND...what a GREAT name, right?

It was a half day class that went by quickly as Stephen is a great instructor that kept the course interesting and kept the class engaged through real life stories. In both cases, my instructor was Amer Tobing, and I wouldn't hesitate for a second before taking his course again when my certification expires. Although I've been CPR certified several times, Life Rescue offered more practical information than my previous certs. Amer's background as a firefighter and in emergency medical services shows, as he has a focused, no-nonsense attitude toward assessing an emergency situation and acting. He teaches us to think in a similar manner by addressing and hammering the most important things to know and remember. He also has a sense of humor, and is great at connecting with people, which makes his class more fun than I ever expected. But make no mistake: he takes his job and the subject matter very seriously, and doesn't let jokes overshadow or displace what is most important. I like how he spends a lot of time focusing on the reality of emergency situations vs. textbook scenarios, because there are some things that books won't tell you. Even though I had taken his class before, the second time around, he didn't let me off the hook if I could have performed something better. I really appreciated it, because it's sometimes the little things that can make a difference. Overall, it feels less like a class and more like practicing and discussing with a coach. I learned more each time, and further reinforced what I previously knew. I feel much more confident after having taken his course, would recommend it to anyone, and actually look forward to taking it again in the future.
