This is a review for the estimate and evaluation of my yard. Many landscapers can be very flaky. I found some through yelp and some through local advertising. A friend of mine in San Ramon used Preston and was pleased. Gary showed up at the promised time and did a very professional evaluation. He has a friendly attitude and great ideas. His experience shows. He recommended a variety of drought tolerant plants and creative hardscape ideas. Gary did his measurements and came back a week later with a beautiful presentation that included a sketch and a proposal that clearly detailed all of the work to be done. In the end we decided to go with someone else who had more competitive price. I would like to share my experience with you. I live within a community, when I would drive out, I noticed a brand-new home that was built had the most beautiful landscaping with different color rocks, etc. I then thought I too would like a new look for the front of my home since it was 9 years old at this point. I started calling nearby landscapers from the internet via phone many were too busy to take on new work. I then decided to reach out to the realtor that sold the new home to inquire who did the landscaping. He was very nice and provided me the information; he said it was Preston's Landscaping. First of all, I have to admit I am very picky when it comes to what I want to be done; and won't hesitate to speak my mind in a polite manner of course. I love the tropical themes; I have two large palm trees, two date palms as well as a few other tropical trees. I decided I wanted a Hawaiian theme. I contacted Preston's landscaping and spoke with Gary the owner. I informed him as to what I wanted he asked if he could drop by to see the area to be landscaped. We met and I went over my wants which included a stone flowerbed wall and stone edging. A design surrounding my palm trees with different colored rocks as well as plenty of colorful tropical plants installed. We met at home depot on Saturday my husband and I showed him the stone we decided on. He said fine then said he'll come by to take the measurements; at that point, we discussed in detail in person what his thoughts were and I loved them. He emailed the quote for the work discussed to be done in complete detail, as well as the timeframe it would take to get the job done which was in one to two days; his prices are very reasonable for the amount of work proposed to be done. He said he could start on Monday morning at 7:00 am. I was very impressed Gary and his crew were there at 6:50 am which I found to be very punctual. I watched them through my window, and they stayed hard at work all day. I offered them cold water since it was very hot and they were working nonstop, they graciously declined and said they brought some for themselves. They removed everything but my palm trees from the front of the house and started the Hawaiian creation from scratch. They started placing the stones was for my flowerbed, cutting stones with a saw to ensure each stone fits evenly and securely. They then started with the design around my palm trees and started pouring the different color rocks we discussed. Once the wall was built, they filled it in with dirt and topsoil and planted the tropical plants that would bloom with color within a month or so. I watched through the window how meticulous Gary was when the guys were placing the large boulder rocks in the newly built landscaping. They placed it down on the ground while Gary stood back to view the appearance. I then noticed he told one of the guys to remove the boulder rock from that location and moved the smaller stones to allow him to make a hole for the boulder to sit in. The worker did as requested and placed the boulder in a shallow hole; then he motioned the guy to lift the backside of the boulder the guy did; he then said lift the front slightly which he also did. Gary then instructed another guy to come to fill in the areas beneath the boulder with the small rocks where the guy has it lifted to hold it exactly in that location and with the slight tilt. Gary wanted to make sure it was placed precisely as he visioned it should be. They finished the first day and my Hawaiian theme is breath-taking I feel I just need the blue sea at the edge of my landscaping. I am receiving compliments on a daily basis from my neighbors, some have asked me for his contact information They did a phenomenal job. My sprinkler system has been low on water pressure for a while and it seems to be getting worse. This past Sunday, I found my other irrigation zone has a drip head broken and large amount of water shoot out spraying around when water was turned on. I went on submitting a quote request on Yelp at Sunday evening and within 15 min Gary responded saying he will come the next Morning to take a look without charge. The original company I sent request to did not even respond until hours later. Gary indeed came the next morning on time as promised. He was friendly and honest and very open to answer questions and share knowledge. This is definitely unlike my prior experiences with other companies which charged visiting fee even if nothing was fixed and also never proactively shared basic knowledges on continual maintenance. Gary took a look at the pressure issue and suggested to replace all sprinkler heads. I was at first a bit skeptical and thought may be a water leak somewhere in the pipe. Or may be the old valve need to be replaced. But he assured me that there should be no leak and replacing all heads should be the first attempt. He gave me a reasonable quote and promised to come the next day at the same time. He came just today 10 minutes before the promised time and did all the fixes about an hour. And just as he said, the water pressure come back alive once all heads are replaced. He is really the best, trustworthy and goto guy for any sprinkler issues. Recently Gary Preston and his team replaced an unsightly and dangerous gravel side yard with good looking pavers. The gravel was difficult to walk on and could have caused a balance problem and a fall. Gary and his team were right on time and completed the job quickly and professionally. After getting a couple of quotes for tearing down a rotten fence in my back yard and replacing it with a hedge, I selected Gary a couple of weeks ago and was happy I did so. The team arrived on time, planted and landscaped exactly as promised very neatly, and cleaned up to my satisfaction afterwards. First of all the project was delayed for multiple reasons and multiple time and finally completed a week late. Then the land was to be flattened and instead it has a big fat slope so it made all the work useless and the backyard just as inaccessable as earlier expect it has concrete now. The the design pattern was wrong and when I asked I was told the design pattern was just an approximate and not the exact. Worse off I was threatened that I will have a lien put on my property if I did not make a payment. Lastly we came to an agreement that the repair would be done within 4 weeks and guess what the guy has become invisible and inaccessible after collecting the payment. The worst experience ever... Oh and beware there will be a lot of sweet talk when you have the consultation dont get fooled by it and get work done by these guys !!! STAY AWAY !!! read more

I wanted to do this earlier, but just now getting this done. I contacted Preston Brothers landscaping around April of 2016. The brothers came out, looked at the front yard and back yard and were talking about what they can do for me in redoing the landscape from lawn to drought resistant replacement. We made an appointment, and they were late. I am an easy going guy and accepted that traffic and work would delay them. They finally showed up about 1 hour later and we specifically talked about what i wanted. I signed the contract, gave them 1/4 of the amount to begin work, and 1/4 when work was half done. They started by removing grass from back/front yards. Great beginning to a disaster. I told them I have a dog and wanted to make sure they put in plants that are not harmful to the dog. According to the contract, I was to pick out the plants for both yards, I went to work, came home and they selected the plants and in the ground, when asked, they said they picked them up to get the job completed. They ruined my yard lights in the front yard and back yard. They no longer work! They cut through the line and said they didn't do it. No offer to work with me, but just stood there like a deer in the headlights of a car. I have irrigation in both front and back yard that they were supposed to plug the unused sprinkler heads, but they didn't, they left them as is. When I confronted them they said they did plug a few but not all. After fighting with them, they still did not do the corrective action. The one brother was supposed to show me the stations that he set up for watering, he didn't, he said we'll be back to show you, he never showed up again. They did a rush job because they had a new client that they wanted to work with. According to the contract, I would give him the remaining monies when completed. The brothers said they were done, but they weren't, I told them I would not pay until they finished, according to them they were done, but according to me, the were not done. They threatened me with a mechanics lean and finally I wanted nothing to do with them again. I paid and got rid of them. I would not recommend these two to anyone ever. They were definitely not worth the money I paid. I drive around my neighborhood and talked to others who have had their lawns converted and they paid 1/2 of what I paid to other contractors and their conversion look fantastic. I wish I did more research than trust two brothers who were not worth the money. Their father is in the business, I was told from a family member their work was done professionally, the two son's need to go back to work with their father to learn landscaping. I could go on but figured why bother with that, when I just want you to be aware of their work (NOT) satisfactory. Oh yea, I removed the poisonous plants and replaced them with safer and prettier plants. DON'T hire them. read more

I hired Travis Preston of Preston Landscaping to clean up my leaves and to provide weekly yard maintenance. I was shocked to find their cleanup of leaves from my front yard were DUMPED in a corner of my backyard. When I asked about it, he said they would clean it up on following yard service visits for which I asked for weekly service. After first job , he writes to tell me they are moving to bi weekly service and the leaves sit. I asked for cleanup with a lawnmower on the remaining leaves after more than a month like this. He was a no show on schedule day and when I told him how upset I was, he made no effort to make the situation right. I was angry with his unprofessional service and instead of telling me he will fix it, he writes and says he'll stop coming. I told him he was the worst service I ever had, for the reasons above, was very upset how he left my yard in complete disarray as you can see from my pictures how he "disposed" of the leaf cleanup.
