I only give 1 star because it's the lowest you can give. They deserve a big fat 0.
Lived there 2.5 years. Let me see here...
The guy before me was evicted. A few weeks after move-in, I come home from co-op to find my door unlocked with several movies/games stolen (strangely, movies/games I'm sure that guy would have liked...trust me, I met him when I toured the place months before). What does that mean? Most likely, the key/lock wasn't changed after the guy was evicted. And what does this mean? That's one BAD landlord. Landlord didn't sound surprised/empathetic at all when I told her over the phone that I was robbed. In apathetic monotone, she went, "What? Really? I'm so sorry."
I'm so surprised there wasn't an electrical fire. The basement had a rat-chewed GIANT mass of wires on one wall. Scary. Cockroaches were EVERYWHERE here. Basement and everywhere else.
The floorboards had swastikas built into the design. Seriously. No joke.
About a year into living here, people started contacting me asking me to join them in their court cases against RentClifton. One journalist past-tenant even came to shoot a documentary on how bad the place is.
Oh yeah, I was robbed at gunpoint nearby.
One month I was interviewed on TV because there had been 8+ break-ins in my building that month. Over 20 on that street, that month. Crime sprees tend to happen on Probasco (generally on Probasco I'd say that lower elevation = higher crime rate).
Since then the landlady has left and been replaced with a much nicer woman. Oh yeah, and rumors abound that RentClifton is run by alcoholics.
When you move out you get a 1-page (front AND back covered) list of potential extra fees. Ridiculous fees. Horrible fees. I didn't get any pulled on me in the end...but that list is heinous. I still have it just to show people how bad it is.
When I turned in my keys, I was forced to go to their new "office," a room within another apartment building with sketchy handwritten "HOURS" sign. The hours were something weird like 12-4, if I remember. What does that mean? No one with a typical 8-5 job can see them during business hours.
My friend in the same building told me he scouted out their offices (at that time they were seemingly nonexistent) and found them in an old run-down empty complex full of homeless squatters, and one random run-down office-looking place that had an "HOURS" sign. When my friend got there the RentClifton woman in the "office" asked "Wait...how did you find us?"
Can I find ONE good thing about the place? Let me see here...
Had to call the landlady on this one: one particularly trashy basement-dwelling tenant got in the habit of knocking on my door and asking for cigarettes/change/cellphone, and it got to the point of her coming to my door and doing it 8 times one night. I called the landlady and said I would call the cops if she didn't stop. Thankfully, after that night it stopped. There. One good thing, in a cesspool of dread.
Let me say this.
Rappers weave brilliant careers out of horrible memories from their youth. So unless you want to be a rapper, DON'T move into a building owned by RentClifton. read more
