I urge anyone who is considering renting from Rentclifton.com to please read this review.
As others have written, this company is truly the definition of a slum lord. I moved into their building at 2570 Madison Rd and the problems have been numerous, and I will discuss just a few. Initially when I moved in only about 1/4 of the electrical outlets and none of the overhead lights in my apartment were functional. I had to get around the apartment by carrying a lamp with an extension cord from room to room. I contacted Rentclifton 1 or 2 times a day for nearly two weeks before this problem was corrected, only to subsequently realize that it was only a temporary fix since the entire fuse system (they still have old-style fuses, not breakers) is faulty. I have learned how to get around the problem by adjusting the fuses when the lights go out, which I need to do once or twice a week when I once again lose electricity. Another incident was about a month after moving in when I had literally gallons of black sewage spill over into my kitchen from the sink. I spent hours cleaning.
Whenever I have submitted a maintenance request, there has been no response. I mean, literally, no response. About a week after submitting the request online, I get an automated message stating the case has been closed, despite the fact it was never even addressed. I am assuming it was likely never even read by an actual person.
Just a few days ago the tenants at 2570 Madison Rd received a notice that Duke energy is going to shut off the gas and electricity to building on 10/22/13 because Rentclifton owes them over $1000 in utility bills. Despite the tenants paying for their individual apartments' electricity usage and cooking gas, evidently Rentclifton did not pay for the utility bills from the common area lighting and central water heater.
In addition to all of this, though, the really baffling thing about this company is that you simply cannot contact them. It is like it is being managed by mystery people. At this current time, literally, I have no idea who the manager is, how I would contact them, etc. The office phone number does not work. The emergency maintenance phone number does not work. The only time they respond predictably is when they are initially trying to get you to sign your lease, and even then most of the responses I received were through texting. It seems that over the past year the manager has changed at lease 3 times, although I don't know exactly when and who is currently in that role. One new manager even sent a message acknowledging all of the past problems and asking for concerns to be sent to her. I sent her an email, never heard back, and never heard from her again in any way. I assume she quit or was fired. Once again, the managers and employees in general change so often that you never really know who you can or should contact.
If you are planning to rent from this company, please try to find another option. If you are thinking what I thought when I used to read angry reviews from other tenants, thoughts like, "Well it really can't be that bad," or "These other tenants must be really high maintenance," or "I am sure it will work out," please think again. I am a very low maintenance and reasonable male young professional. I don't expect that much from my landlord. The only way you can protect yourself is to not live in one of their properties. The only way the community at large can be protected is to refuse to live in their properties.
