I can handle all medical situations but dental situations (even minor exams) give me through the roof anxiety. The team was very calming, explained what they were doing, personable which added nice distraction, and didn't rush me. Four stars for now- it was a simple exam and X-rays. I have a cleaning coming up so I may update my review after more work being done. So far, I'm fine (can't really say happy about any dentist!) with seeing Dr. Echols and visit his practice.

Got a dental phobia, or afraid of the dentist like I was? Read this review…read more Most people don't like going to the dentist, but some of us crazies avoid going for 10-15 years. For whatever reason, my body has never responded much to the local anesthetic. It's so hard for me to stay still and relax in anticipation of the pain. Plus, it's terribly awkward laying on your back with people messing around in your mouth. I had the most terrible experience around age 16 with a dentist that I feel like probably didn't know what he was doing. It was at one of those dental chains with 10 dentists, I had never seen the guy before and he barely said a word to me before putting me through the most excruciating hour and a half of my life on just one simple filling. That's where my aversion to dentists really began, call it PTSD, call it anxiety, or maybe I'm just a wimp! Enter Doctor Valencia's office. I didn't even get the courage to make the call until my older neighbors told me about the dentist their kids had been going to for decades. This was enough for me to at least put my distrust of dentists aside. Her kids had the same aversion to dentists I did, and went in with worse problems than me. My lower gums on the front four teeth had been bothering me for some time, enough that I looked up gum recession and learned every day I waited meant more and more permanent damage to the gums, connective tissue and bones beneath. It's called Periodontitis and more than 50% of population over the age of 30 has it to some degree. It's no joke. If you haven't been to the dentist for a long time and aren't flossing daily, do yourself a favor and schedule an appointment. The longer you wait the worse it will be. Better dental hygiene doesn't do any good once the brownish calculus (which I originally thought were stains from my Coffee addiction) builds up and the bad bacteria get a chance to propagate under your gums. During my very reasonably priced initial appointment, I was gagging on the x-rays and anxious as hell. I felt embarrassed and terrified of what Dr. Valencia would tell me I needed done. The staff did an amazing job of comforting me and not making me feel weird (even though I was definitely being weird, LOL). I was sure I'd need all the gnarliest treatments I had looked up online. I was sure getting my dental health in order would require several visits and a world of pain / anxiety. WRONG! Valencia takes a conservative approach utilizing some of the latest technology. I was told I'd need scaling / planing, one composite and a crown. To my surprise, I learned that not only could all of this major work be done in one visit, but there is also a pill called "Halcyon" that basically turns you into a zombie that doesn't even remember anything when it kicks in. The day of my treatment, I was so worked up I basically was powering through my first two pills I took before coming in / arriving. The dental hygienist was so kind and patient with me. After a bit of a rough start she had me take another pill and gave me plenty of time for it to kick in. After this, I don't remember much. Next thing I know, my scaling and planing is done and I'm sitting down when I hear the dreaded sound of the drill spinning up. It snapped me out of my zombie state for a second and the PTSD / anxiety started to poke out its head. "How about that nitrous oxide (laughing gas), doc?" Three or four deep inhales later, next thing I know, I'm walking out of the office. There is no reason to be afraid of the dentist anymore, especially with Valencia and his team. I am eternally grateful. Look no further than Simply Smiles!!

I didn't know better at the time and my husband and I both got one on a back molar. Mine lasted two years before it cracked and my husband's 2.5 years and it cracked. Because they're under five years old, the insurance won't cover new ones. We are out thousands and thousands of dollars. When you talk to credible dentists, they say they would never put a crown of that nature on such a large molar. Porcelain only but at simply smiles they want to take as much money for themselves as possible and not give it to the lab. They also will fudge measurements to try to get deep cleanings done. Our insurance didn't agree with them and it became a whole thing with noncoverage and us owing more money than was estimated m. They started out nice to us, but once that insurance issue came, they became very mean and uncaring. Just do yourself a favor, if it sounds inexpensive and too good to be true affordable, it's because it is -- you're getting junk.

What began as administrative incompetence escalated into severe clinical negligence with permanent physical consequences. The disorganization was evident from day one. During my first visit last year, the office was in chaos due to an EHR system transition and a total lack of internet. The doctor had no clinical documentation or information about me, working entirely from memory after previously reviewing my scans. Following that visit, the staff emailed me almost exclusively for six months. Out of nowhere, they stopped using email and mandated a patient portal, yet never indicated a portal existed or provided credentials. Instead, they randomly called during my patient care hours. As a healthcare provider, I informed them I am with patients back-to-back and cannot interrupt active trauma therapy sessions. I offered them access to my calendar and explicitly offered to move my own patients to speak with the doctor at her convenience. My professional, flexible requests were completely ignored. In January, prior to my surgery, the office fraudulently billed my insurance for an office visit that supposedly took place on a Sunday--a day no visit occurred. While they struggled to coordinate actual patient care, they repeatedly sent me past-due bills demanding my portion of the payment for this fictitious Sunday visit. It took months of back-and-forth and insurance company intervention to force them to void the charge. I met with Dr. Ley for only the second time on the morning of my surgery. Upon arrival, I first learned of a traumatic surgical setup at TMC: my husband of almost three decades was barred from being with me beforehand until the team started my IV, and barred from seeing me at all after surgery until he brought the car to the curb. If Dr. Ley had notified me of these rigid guidelines beforehand, I would have refused surgery there and sought care elsewhere. (I am dealing with TMC directly on these systemic failures.) After surgery, I never saw or heard from Dr. Ley again, except for a brief, 16-second voicemail stating my cancer was "fixable." The office then scheduled a post-surgical follow-up without ever notifying me via email, text, or phone. When I did not show up to a time I was never told about, they left an angry voicemail accusing me of missing the appointment. If I had been notified, I would have willingly made the 90-minute drive each way. The most critical failure occurred 20 days post-surgery. Dr. Ley was officially notified by TMC that the Mayo Clinic corrected my diagnosis, confirming it was completely wrong. I have the documentation of this notification in hand. She never notified me. This was an urgent matter. They easily could have sent an urgent email or text instructing me to check my account. Dr. Ley knew I was under an oncologist's care, and her office had his information at least twice in writing, yet she failed to notify him either, leaving my care team in the dark. Because of Dr. Ley's failure to communicate this critical correction to me or my oncologist, I now have permanent radiation tattoos. I would have started unnecessary radiation treatments had I not discovered the error myself on a hospital bill. I have filed formal grievances. Do not trust this provider.

(though it's been years since I've had a cavity. Perhaps this is the new way of doing things?!) Dr Arias just went to town! She seemed to behave like I wasn't even there. She talked with her hygienist about their price life. I found it very odd. Dr. Arias also recommended I get Invisalign. Soon, I realized she seems to be recommending Invisalign to many clients. When I talked to friends who happen to have a her also as their dentist, it's ironic how they also were told they needed aInvisalign. Since we are in our 30s & 40s, insurance won't cover this. She actually said the same thing to all of us, "your bite isn't aligned. Invisalign will help fix those problem." Perhaps the clinic didn't have a lot of clients in midst of the pandemic and now they are recommending Invisalign to several clients. $6000 I was told for this. She is the only Dentist who has EVER told me I needed braces or any sort of treatment to straighten my teeth. Prior dentists have ALWAYS asked me if I had braces as a child. (I didn't) i've been told my teeth are very straight and very tight and I have a great smile. Unfortunately, I found a dentist who thinks otherwise. But she's alone- because I've seen five other dentists in five other states. Seems they are less about the client's need and more about collecting your money. Also, I found it odd that I couldn't get my dental cleaning and exam done in the same session. (???) Then, they schedule a third appt. for a filling. My point being, I've been there three times in the last six months. So I have a pretty good observation about what this clinic is about. It's unfortunate.
