I'm not happy that I had to get my first root canal, but I'm extremely pleased my dentist referred me to this office in Green Valley (and for the record, there is also an office in Tucson). The experience wasn't even close to what I expected. First impression: Brenda at the front desk was so helpful and friendly. She has the perfect personality for her job and she made me feel at ease. Second impression: Javier is just as friendly while being soft spoken. He is very knowledgeable and told me what was going on at each step during prep. Clearly, the staff love their jobs! Third and final impression: Dr. Tung Bui is very good at his job! He is extremely thorough and answered all my questions. I was in and out in the 90 mins they quoted me when I scheduled my appointment. Actually less! Root canals are supposed to be awful. That's what everyone says. This was the most pain free dental procedure I've ever had. The topical and local anesthetics were used perfectly and I barely felt the needles. All in all, I would compare this to getting a more elaborate filling. Great job everyone! I hope I don't have to see you again anytime soon. But if I do, I know what capable hands I'll be in.

Angie was upbeat and very helpful in making my visit less stressful. Jennifer was wonderful as she kept me calm by letting know the steps during my procedure. Jennifer and Dr. Batz work like clockwork together. Doctor Batz is extremely professional and skilled in his craft too. No matter if you love the procedure or not, you'll feel well taken care of and feel like family. I took a book with me. I was there about 20-30 minutes when they took me in for some tests and was told I need a root canal. Dr. Pena said he could do it later that afternoon if I wanted to wait and I did. Later they took me back and he gave me shots to numb the area. It hurt so he gave me a shot in the tooth which totally numbed it and when he finished the pain was gone except for a mild ache if I tapped the tooth. Everyone at the office were pleasant and helpful. Dr. Pena was considerate and caring. Being able to get in quickly and get the problem resolved was really wonderful and very much appreciated.

I am not saying it is not valid.....it just makes me pause. Same for excellent reviews with no picture and one or two reviews. Hmmmmm........ I digress.... So....this is MY review based on a LONG history having gone here. The staff has ALWAYS been pleasant and helpful. I work with people all day, I get it....so I always try to be nice. I was in a LOT of pain when I got there, and waited quite a while (but I was seen same day for an emergency). The doctor took me back and did several tests to see what tooth it was. Once it was confirmed, he said we will do the root canal now. ((YAY))!! The needles in the roof of my mouth ALWAYS hurt me so much, but the doctor was so patient. I got all numbed up.....and it began. Apparently I had dead and decaying nerves, and that explained the pain, fever, and other unpleasant symptoms I was having. Seriously....I was in a LOT of pain. I am so blessed to have no more pain, no more temperature...and may I give a special thank you to Dr Smith....who loves and supports animal rescue...and has such an authentic presence. He is patient and explains things very well. He is caring and considerate when working on my teeth. I've had checkups, cleaning, crowns, a dental implant and a bridge done there. They have an emergency number if you have a problem over the weekend or when they are closed. They aren't afraid to refer you for care if you need something they don't do. Growing up in New York City and working for many years in Los Angeles I had the good fortune to be seen by and have work done by some of the best dentist in the USA. I moved to Tucson 10 years ago but for many years I kept traveling to see my great dentist and doctors in LA. As I love Tucson so much it became harder and harder for me to leave Tucson even for a day. I love it here. So my wife found a local dentist Doctor Jonathan Icely online through Yelp. Nothing against Yelp but I would have preferred a referral from someone I personally trusted. I had no luck asking the few people I know here. To be frank about my feelings, from my first visit with Dr. Icely, I was not impressed or comfortable with him. Or for that matter comfortable with most of his staff. The office felt sad. To me, Dr. Icely felt unimpressive in every way and nothing I noticed about him seemed to reflect talent, thoughtfulness, passion or competence. In my opinion he was not on par with any of the many great dentist I have been lucky to be seen by in my life. In spite of my negative gut feeling about Dr. Icely I returned again to this office. Again leaving with the same bad feeling. After a few visits I listened to my screaming gut, never returned again and looked for someone better. Thankfully I found someone great As a point of interest, my very strong negative feelings and opinions of Dr. Icely were much further reinforced during my first visit to my new great dentist. The contrast of talent thoroughness and mood was staggering compared to Dr. Icely's sad dark office packed with an overfed unhappy female staff. "hygienist" Nicole, to me, in my opinion reflected the worst of today's employed American women. My opinion is Doctor Icely is a sub par, odd, uncomfortable and well below average dentist. His office depressing. I felt uncomfortable with his unfriendly untalented staff. I felt strong I must leave Doctor Icely's care simply to save my teeth, save my peace of mind and love life again. What I am saying is I do not recommend Dr. Jonathan Icely or anyone from Catalina Foothills Family Dental. I feel you deserve better and better is easy to find.
