A few years ago Melvin taught me how to drive. I recommend this place to everyone I encounter. I do let everyone know that his way may come off a little mean but it taught me how to deal with other drivers! Melvin saw that when I was learning how to do a k turn and a driver yelled at me, it frightened me. We discussed road rage and not to be afraid of what's going on but keep my composure so things do not escalate. We went over every single thing you'll need to know about the road. My first time parking, he taught me with my eyes closed, it was crazy to me but he has his techniques. We drove all over the Bronx and at various times so that I was able to know how to maneuver in different kinds of traffic. He taught me how to time cars to merge onto the highway and how to exit. I'm a fantastic driver because of Melvin. My mother also went to him back in the 90s! I have several friends and family members who went to Melvin and passed their road test. I know other people who went elsewhere and failed their driving test, I point them into the direction of Melvin and they pass the test on the first try. Even if you think his ways are unethical, take that driving test and you will pass! His ways pay off in the end. read more

I am totally disappointed with this driving school. I started taking lessons in April of 2023, completed lessons, and have been trying to take my road test since October, 2023. I wasn't able to get in touch with them by phone or at their place of business . I just got in touch with the instructor two days ago. He had the nerve to tell me that I'm not ready to take the road test, and offered to give me $60 to take the road test elsewhere. Mind you, my permit is going to expire next month. He broke the contract, and can't be trusted. I would not recommend anyone to deal with this school located on 233rd in White Plains Rd. He is also very rude. read more

I am so disgusted with these people. They took my money then failed to deliver the classes. As of now, they owe me four lessons. I didn't learn anything from the guy. He kept saying I wasn't ready for my road test so I went ahead and made my own appointment and passed. Now that I have my license I asked for them to refund me my money. However, every time I call the man doesn't answer his phone. I left messages for him explaining that I passed my road test and don't need any more lessons and asked him to return my call but up to this day I haven't heard anything. This has been going on for over two months. I don't know if he's dead or alive. Totally dishonest behavior on his part. I don't know if I'll ever get my money from him. I should've never signed up for the package. One of the worst experiences I've ever had with people since living here in the USA. read more

I wish I had come on this site and read the reviews before paying my money. The posting that talks about the older Male instructor Mel***, being grumpy and using scare tactics is absolutely correct. He made my child not want to go back to driving because during the lesson he pulled over and decided to show videos and pictures of accidents. This was my child's third lesson when he did that. He is not only grumpy, he is very unprofessional and downright rude. No professional etiquette whatsoever and was not interested in hearing my concerns as a parent. Never in all my life have I heard any driving instructor use that tactic. The 5-Hour lesson that is given to the students is enough. Showing a video while the person is driving and expected to drive back to their home is unethical and irresponsible. They deserve ZERO stars. read more

Before going here I had read some reviews which inclined me to go here. At first it was okay, but then Melvin the instructor when in a bad moved turned into a bit of a jerk! Made you feel stupid , aside from the fact that I couldn;t understand him sometimes because he has a thick accent. Go at your own risk, if you want to be talked down on . He would you yell "Gas and go!" really rudely, embarrass you in front of another student who was also in the car. read more

The instructor is a grumpy old man with bad breath and the most awful attitude he'll make any new driver shake in their boots he scrutinizes everything that a new driver does so you'll never know what you're actually doing right! So I will start off by saying that my first experience with presidential was with my five hour class. That was easy breezy and no fuss. My intention was to return soon after but somehow a year slipped away from me and I found myself in a bind. My five hr class was to expire at the end of May and my permit would expire a week or so after on my birthday. I took one lesson with Melvin a few months back and life seemed to have gotten in the way so I could not return until about two weeks ago maybe a little less. That first lesson worked out. He was able to tell me what I needed to work on once I returned. Fast forward to a week and a half ago and my permit is about to expire. After a little struggle to schedule another appointment I was able to finally get started. Mr. Melvin with his brutal honesty takes me under his very experienced wing and whips me into driving shape. If you want someone who is going to coddle you and sugar coat what you are doing wrong, this is not the place for you. If you however, want someone to give you the tough love that you require to get you into proper driving shape then this is the place. Needless to say with all of their help after ten lessons I was able to not only learn a few extra things but PASS MY TEST ON THE FIRST TRY TODAY!!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!! I contacted the driving school a couple of weeks ago to set up an initial appointment prior to committing to one of their packages. My reasoning for this is that I've taken a couple of lessons in the past with another driving school and the fit just wasn't compatible, so going forward I wanted to make sure that the instructor's teaching style would work for me before shelling out hundreds of dollars. Seems reasonable right? Well apparently Presidential doesn't think so. In fact, the woman who answered the phone kept talking over me and not listening to a single word I said once I told her I was initially interested in signing up for a trial lesson before signing up for a package. I never indicated that my end goal was this one lesson, because that's absolutely absurd, but she kept trying to convince me to sign up for the package because I wouldn't learn anything with just one lesson. Even though I'd explained to her MULTIPLE times that that wasn't what I was saying. She also kept saying how they gave priority to people who signed up for packages, which is complete bull to me because either way you'd be receiving one lesson at a time, so how is this different?? After 5 minutes of her repeating herself she took my info and said the instructor would call me to schedule an appt for next week. This was on Monday, I called back on Friday and told her I'd never heard from anyone about my lesson. We then had literally the same convo we'd had a few days ago because she didn't know who I was, then she took my info AGAIN and gave me the same empty promise. This was 3 weeks ago and no one ever called me. The impression I got is they are more interested in their own profit rather than with what works best for the client. I wish I could give them a 0. I will be looking for another driving school but I wouldn't recommend this one. If they do not like offering individual lessons then why have them as an option on your website?? read more

Hi, I had my scheduled driving lesson today at 3 p.m. After waiting for long in the rain, I called the guy and he started asking for my address, cross streets, which train you are close to by, etc etc. all rubbish (which he is supposed to know before and not at your scheduled lesson time!! and I had already answered each and every question of a lady who pick up the phone always, when scheduling my lesson last week).After answering all the questions for about 10 mins, I said I'll be waiting outside, he said no I'll call you when I'll get nearby your house. That was fine with me. After about 35 mins I called again to inquire. He went on shouting @ me for how many lessons I want to take? 1,2,3,4,5,6, how many? Literally shouting @ me as if I don't know the counting. hell! I said for today I'll be taking only 1 lesson, if I like it then I can take more because I knew driving a bit, but taking lessons for getting confident to drive. He said no, you should take at-least 2 lessons and not one and kept on saying this single line again and again. I mean who are you to tell me how many I should take. we didn't even seen each other, you don't know how good or bad I can drive, how can you judge me. At-least let me take one and then give your silly comments. Very disappointing! not recommending, just for the sake of that they had opened an office they are taking calls, not at all interesting in giving driving lessons! read more
