Based on her…read moreexperience and on our observations, we would NOT recommend this very business-minded supported living program unless very close and regular monitoring of the placed resident is carried out by a team of family, friends and advocates. With exception of a receptionist and few inconsistent responses to basic concerns by the director and associates, overall, our questions and suggestions to work with us to better support our mother were not considered in a consistent or caring manner. Management and staff generally seemed unconcerned, dismissive and lacked attention to detail. Reasonable responsiveness in areas of medical, daily life skill retention and quality of life support issues were not carried out. For example, call buttons when rarely pushed were not responded to in a reasonably timely manner and during a visit, one time taking 45 minutes for a CNA to respond. Our mother reported being yelled at a couple of times by staff for not being up, or being too slow to take medications. During visits, we frequently found medication that was to be administered to our mother clearly in tact and on the floor or under furniture. This was reported several times. Management demonstrated a base business, dollars and cents demeanor. Resident accounting staff did not at all appear to utilize best practices. At best, they appeared unorganized as they made extremely contradicting statements within short spans of time when asked about our mom's account. Mother passed within months of moving to The Vistas of Fox Valley. We were provided a 14 day window to clear out all of her personal belongings, which we did well before the final date, leaving her room much more clean than when she moved in. During the final clearing and cleaning phase, a management representative walked in without as much as a knock, and matter of factly stated that her bed and TV were theirs, and nothing more. This was completely untrue and we were required to prove it, which we did. This is only one example of the standard and insensitive communication style at The Vistas of Fox Valley.

It's the kind of place that sincerely cares about people. The staff is exceptional at what they do and exceptional at understanding people from different walks of life. They are able to have compassion for my mom and her health or mental health difficulties that we all have at times throughout life. I am so thankful that my mom is at Jennings Terrace. There are a lot fancier places, but I don't think there is more skill or care or compassion in those places. This is home for my mom and she is happy there. We decorated her room and she loves it. She goes and sits out by the big cozy fireplace and watches a movie with other residents when the weather is cooler. And, when we walk in are usually greeted by someone who gives us a smile or a group of people playing games and laughing in the game room. This is home for my mom and I am so thankful to Esther, Daphne, Diana, Keosha, Diane and all the other staff members that I haven't named that make sure that things run smoothly. I live out of state and I know my mom is cared for, and it means so much!

Arelis, the Executive Director, met with us and answered all our questions. During the tour, Mom was delighted to learn that she was able to decorate her own apartment with her own furniture and trinkets. She loves her new apartment! On Mom's first day, Arelis welcomed her and strategically assigned her a table seat so she could comfortably join the Prairie Point community. It did not take long for Mom to make new friends. In my mom's early life she was a cater. She considers herself a gourmet chef. Her expectations for quality food high. She raves about the food at Prairie Point. During her first three months in her new home, she gained 20 pounds! Monica (the activities director) and her staff, does an outstanding job planning outings, special performances, and unique occasions. Each month a calendar is posted announcing all the events. A daily activities schedule is also posted as a reminder of what is happening. Some of mom's favorites are flower arranging class, social teas, parties, manicures, games and crafts. The facility is always decorated in holiday/seasonal decor. It creates a fun environment that gives everyone something to look forward to throughout the year. Mom's health has been an emotional roller coaster in 2025. Throughout the year we had to make many adjustments. Her nurses: Lili, Doreen and Jean. have been instrumental in keeping me informed and helping me communicate with her doctors. My mother loves them. She is extremely grateful for their help. Other invaluable people are the CNAs. There are too many to mention by name. They all have one thing in common, patience! They make her feel comfortable, safe and loved. They truly are amazing. Knowing that my mom is engaged in a social environment that is filled with a variety of interesting events throughout her day gives me peace of mind. She is living a quality senior life. No one wants to lose their independence. However, when it happens, due to health and aging, Prairie Point is a true blessing.
