This is my way overdue update... I have been taking my two Pomeranians here for daycare for over 5 years. (I started under the previous owners of this location). Sadly, my older Pom passed away about a year ago. But my little 12 yr old, 7 lb diva still goes here at least 2X/week for daycare. I appreciate they are open until 6:30 PM on weekdays. The facility is clean. There is a separate Cat area in the front. They have a nice large, fully shaded, outdoor area. The staff genuinely seems to love the dogs. They can't get Daisy from me fast enough when I drop her off! I also appreciate that they post a lot of photos on Facebook. I typically purchase 10 daycare sessions in a package. The pricing is very reasonable. I do wish a few more small dogs with come for daycare. read more

We have been using Preppy Pet Richmond for boarding for over two years and have never had a single issue. The prices are excellent, but the best part is seeing how excited our dog gets whenever we arrive--they truly love it here! We always appreciate the updates provided during the stay, and adding a departure bath is a must; our pet always comes home happy, tired, and smelling perfectly clean. I love this place! When I picked up my pups, they were clean, smelled good, nails were trimmed well, and they were so happy! They're very difficult to bathe and nail trim, even the vet and groomers in a large corporation pet store act like they have to be sedated or under anesthesia, but preppy pets got it done! They even got cute little pictures with the Easter bunny! read more

i was reluctant to board my dog as I usually use an in home Petsitter, but I was pleased with the experience. The staff is friendly and responsive. They even sent me photos. The facility is large and appears to be well maintained. My dog was very clean, healthy and happy when we picked her up. The rates are very reasonable as well. I would rate 0 stars if I could. My fiancée and I came here for inquiries on grooming and it smelled like rubbish, bleach, vinegar, and urine. I have never been to a dog place that smelt this bad, and I've been to lower income pet businesses and it still smelled good in there. My fiancée asked why it smelled so horrid, and they replied, "The owner doesn't allow scented products because she says dogs can have seizures". I find this response to be revolting. We use a plethora of scents on our home and our pets are fine. Pet friendly products are sold at every store so I do not understand why it smells so bad. This "owner" is a nutcase for that ideology. From the past reviews on here, I also see that the owner tends to argue with people with absurd long essays to deflect the issue. This place must also use fake ratings because you guys have over 4 stars on google and 2 on here. We will not be interested in grooming our pets at a place that does not smell like grooming is taking place. read more

Let me begin this review by saying that I fully understand that I knew there was a possibility that my dog could've been hurt/injured when I chose to take her to a doggie daycare. I do understand that dogs play with their mouths and rough play can occur sometimes. But what I did not sign up for was taking my dog to daycare, having her be attacked by another dog, and then getting no information from Preppy Pet-Richmond. My golden retriever has been going to Preppy Pet-Richmond for a little over 6 months. We have loved the staff and believed they loved our dog. That all changed on Thursday... We picked Bailey up from a full day of doggie daycare. We thought everything was normal because the staff brought her out and didn't mention anything happening. Then when we got home, I noticed Bailey licking at one spot on her leg excessively. I then proceeded to look at her leg and notice a puncture hole (that was bleeding and also had dried blood all around it). I got it cleaned up and then noticed that she was limping and couldn't jump up on anything. We wondered why they didn't mention anything happening, but thought it was fine. Then we picked Bailey up off the couch and noticed that the blanket she was laying on had blood all over it. We then did a full body examination and noticed she had a huge gash on her back that was actively bleeding and also had dried blood all around it. At this point, we knew we had to take her to the vet. It was after hours so we had to go to an emergency vet. After the veterinarian examined her, he also found a gash on the back of her leg. She had to get staples on her back, on her hind leg, and they had to clean out the puncture wound. She is now in a cone for 14 days and will have to go back to get the staples removed. She is also on antibiotics. Did Preppy-Pet Richmond mention anything happening that day? No, no they did not say anything. So we proceeded to call the next day. They told us that Bailey did get in a "little" fight with a new dog (that they didn't know how he would respond on other dogs). Well, apparently he didn't do well with other dogs and my dog was the guinea pig to figure that out. They then told my husband and I ten different stories of what happened. From, they had to pull Bailey away from the other dog and the wounds are because he had her in his mouth...to, it was just a 15 second little fight and we didn't feel like it was important enough to let you know. They said they "checked" her out and didn't see anything and said that she was fine the rest of the day (even though another story that was told, said that it occurred at 5:00PM (when she was picked up before that). I understand these things happen, but what I can't understand is why I was not told anything. We could've took her to regular vet during the day, her wounds may not have been as bad if we got her earlier, she wouldn't have been in so much pain. The vet told us she was clearly attacked by another animal. I am just sad that Preppy-Pet Richmond didn't do their job of keeping us informed and not caring for their animals. To make it even worse, they have not said sorry or asked ONCE, how Bailey is doing. I will not be going back here and I highly recommend you don't either! read more

I had went on vacation for 10 days. And I thought this boarding pet place was good for my 2 dogs. One is a puppy and the other is a full adult. Well I left them there for 10 days and when I went to go pick them up they smelt like Pee. My dogs had been sitting in pee for 10 days straight. We took them home and we took them a bath and when we bathed them the water smelt and looked like pee. There for was also really sticky of like pee. It made me feel bad because how are they just going to let dogs sit in pee for a certain amount of days. This boarding dog place is not good at all. Unless u want your dogs to be poorly treated. Plus the place smelt like straight up pee. read more

This place is a hell hole and my dog almost died during a two week stay here. I sent a perfectly healthy dog here and after two weeks he was skin and bones and an inch away from death. If you love your pets, do not kennel them here. They do not care about your animals. I received both of my dogs covered in feces and urine caked all over their paws. It took a week of bathing them everyday to finally get the smell off. We will be filing animal cruelty complaint against this establishment. DO NOT BOARD HERE! read more

I've used this business several times and had always been pleased. I recently boarded my dog there for 5 days, when I picked her up, the entire lobby stunk of urine and feces. My dogs bed was soaked in urine as was she. NEVER Again! read more
