I gave a deposit to ensure a spot in the class. My account was later charged the entire course fee after I decided not to pursue a certificate with IES. When I called the school to clear up the mess, I was assured that charge would be cancelled. It was not. I waited and waited, but the charge was still not cancelled. I called again and was yet again assured the charge would be cancelled. Again, it was not. It took an investigation into the school by my bank to get the money back. I have no claims on the content of the courses of IES. However, I had a terrible experience trying to get my money back that was taken from me without my permission.

LARC is a different type of tutoring service offered by UCI besides Peer Tutoring. If you want to enroll in LARC it is $110 per quarter. On the other hand, peer tutoring is free. Although LARC is $110 (used to be $100), I still end up enrolling in LARC more than going to peer tutors. The reason is that since I know I am paying for the session, I need to go to all the session and get as much out of it as possible. For LARC session, tutors will usually hand out worksheet during each of the tutoring session. They will usually host a review session before midterms and finals as well. For ambitious individual and people who do well in certain courses, you can apply to be a LARC tutoring. From what I know, the pay is very well. However, it is competitive to get the position. Whether you are a student struggling in class or a student who wants to get extra material for the class, LARC can help you achieve your dream of doing well in different courses. TIPS: ask questions and be proactive in LARC sessions! If you are shy to ask a professor a question in front of 300 people in a lecture hall then you can ask questions in front of 10 or so students in LARC sessions.

Costs around $100 a quarter, but if you do the math, it's around $5 per hour of tutoring, which is a lot cheaper than pretty much any private tutor in Irvine that I know about!

CSL is by far the best place to study/lounge out on campus! It's also really nice that this place…read moreis so hard to find for a lot of students. You can actually catch a bird's-eye view glimpse of the courtyard from the food court where Jamba Juice is located at - but for most students, it's really a matter of knowing how to get here. There are 14 to 15 study rooms here - which you can reserve in advance. You get 40 hours of reservation hours per quarter. The rooms are locked, relatively spacious and come with a whiteboard. While your cellphone signal may be spotty, the wifi is really strong here as there are a few routers strategically placed around the room. The computers in CSL are PCs, while the computers in the lab directly across from CSL (connected by the same courtyard in the middle) - have Macs. Even if you don't get a study room, there is still ample desks/chairs as well as sofa like lounge chairs throughout this space. What's great is the courtyard is open-air, so if you need a study break or some fresh air, you can just walk out to the courtyard and rejuvenate. There are vending machines right next to CSL and the UC Irvine Blood Donor Center is also adjacent to this lounge. Finally, since it's part of the Student Center building, CSL has the most flexible hours out of all study spots on campus - 7am to midnight everyday - open 24 hours during Fall, Winter Spring quarter Finals week.
